CH 112

The positions of the two experimental subjects were displayed on the operation screen of the repaired anomaly radar.

The closest was the No. 857 Special Operations experimental subject “Electro-optic Phantom.” According to the position displayed on the radar’s operation screen, the Electro-optic Phantom was located at the center of the Lessa Tower, 200 meters from the ground.

The coordinates were very precise; the position of the Electro-optic Phantom coincided with the coordinates of the merman located at the tip of the Lessa Tower.

A slightly surprised look showed up in the warden’s features. “The machine isn’t broken, right? Why is he the Electro-optic Phantom?”

In the driver’s seat, Du Mo hurriedly explained, “The 109 Research Institute transformed him. After the last explosion, the Research Institute lost a lot of experimental subjects, and he was one of them.”

“Why didn’t you say so earlier?” The warden still remembered the Electro-optic Phantom’s name being in the capture plan. He sighed and propped up his head, “Forget it, remove him from the capture plan.”

“Yes.”

“If we really did invite this revered lord back, our peaceful days in the International Prison would be over.”

The warden’s attention was drawn to another experimental subject detected by the anomaly radar, No. 211 Special Operations Weapon Golden Silk Spider.

Golden Silk Spider’s escape path was displayed on the radar’s operation screen. He was moving slowly, indicating that he was probably wounded.

The warden propped up his head and asked languidly, “Did someone buy Golden Silk Spider?”

“The boss of the Red-Throated Bird bought it. He also bought four or five other experimental subjects. Golden Silk Spider is just one of them.”

“Experimental subjects without valid invoices are considered illegal. Arrest him.”

“Yes.”

Just after the warden passed down the order, IOA’s President walked directly over. Du Mo hurriedly got out of the car and opened the door for the warden. Their military ranks were both major generals, and President Yan took the initiative to come over. It was absolutely inappropriate for the warden to not get out of the car.

The warden slowly got down from the back seat. His back was slightly bent, and he held an ordinary black umbrella in his hand. The tip of the umbrella descended and was gently placed on the ground.

“I trust you have been well since the last time we met.” President Yan stretched out his hand with an indifferent expression.

“All the same to you, President Yan.” The warden hugged Yan Yi enthusiastically. Despite appearing as affectionate old friends, there was more to the situation beneath the surface. Smiling, the warden said in Yan Yi’s ear, “It seems that you’re protecting the little demons under you very securely today.”

Yan Yi’s expression was flat. His palms that were clasped together exerted a slight force, joints cracking. “Public security is not good; I can only guard them a little stricter.”

However, the guns of the special forces and prison officers were still aimed at Rimbaud at the top of the tower, an agreement without prior consultation.

The warden was standing still under the Lessa Tower, with his black umbrella propped on the ground, and both of his hands were gently placed on the umbrella handle. He signaled everyone to put down their guns, raised his head to look toward the merman at the very top, and released a wisp of pheromones expressing respect.

The pheromones floated to the high place, and Rimbaud smelled the scent. The pupils of his emotionless blue eyes converged into thin lines. He loosened his fishtail and fell rapidly from a high altitude. When he neared the ground, his electromagnetism produced a dizzying rumble and supported Rimbaud’s body, suspending him one meter above the ground.

The warden took off his crooked military hat and bowed his head to Rimbaud in a gentlemanly manner.

The barely passable etiquette slightly eased the stern expression on Rimbaud’s glabella. He propped up his head and laid on his side on the iron tower’s bottommost beam, responding with a light “mn.”

“You don’t have to be so hostile to me. I just came to make sure some experimental subjects are not a threat to mankind, based on the principle of being responsible to all mankind.”

Rimbaud glanced at his nails. “You guys are still alive up until now, it’s proof that we are not a threat.”

The warden laughed, “I will only take away a few that are insignificant to you. What I’m looking for is not your beloved alpha, but a black panther experiment subject similar to him. Have you seen him?”

Rimbaud thought for a while. Xiao Bai had seemingly mentioned a guy like that by Crawler’s side, but he didn’t go into details.

The PBB special forces escorted the dying Golden Silk Spider back to M Harbor. Golden Silk Spider was wearing special handcuffs on both hands, and a gland suppressor was inserted into his nape to prevent him from getting violent and injuring somebody.

The police officers of the International Prison walked over to the troops to have them hand him over. The purchase invoice of Golden Silk Spider was in the hands of the Red-Throated Bird. The Red-Throated Bird terrorist organization wasn’t a part of any internationally recognized legal organizations. Therefore, Golden Silk Spider was equivalent to an unsupervised experimental subject, and the International Prison must personally supervise him.

Golden Silk Spider was much more relaxed without the heavy burden on his body. No matter whether he was about to enter the prison or return to the Red-Throated Bird, both were fine, and nothing could make him feel afraid.

Golden Silk Spider lowered his head and was stuffed into an armored escort vehicle by the police officers of the International Business Federation.

Yan Yi regretted not being able to bring Golden Silk Spider back to the general headquarters. The more experimental subjects the International Prison had, their right to speak in the meeting would increase. He gazed at the back view of the young man who was stuffed into the escort vehicle for a very long time, with a type of unspeakable feeling of familiarity.

The detection radar showed that there were still experimental subjects around, but they flashed past within the detection range, and soon after, their traces disappeared.

The warden waited for a while in front of the radar operation screen. The PBB special forces and the International Prison police were doing a comprehensive search in M Harbor. From the beginning to the present, the manhunt operation had been going on for about four hours. It could only end after they made sure there were no experimental subjects hiding in M Harbor.

At the time of their search, the IOA special agents group, except Rimbaud, had already taken the ferry and traveled to the open sea.

Five people hid in the ship’s hold to rest. Xiao Xun received critical care from the PBB Thunder Support Team. His broken leg bone was restored to its previous state, and he would be fine after several days of bed rest.

Bi Lanxing helped Lu Yan to move the heavy mummy beside the cabinet and fastened it with vines. No one could say whether this thing would still be able to move now that it was away from Golden Silk Spider. It was better to tie it up to be safe.

Lu Yan settled the mummy, sat on the ground, tore off some draft paper, began folding paper cranes, and put them with the corpse of the little lion cub in his backpack. He was really busy for quite a while.

Han Xingqian sat across from Bai Chunian and helped him deal with his injured left eye.

Although an experimental subject won’t die from being hit by Golden Silk Spider’s gun, their self-healing speed would be very slow, especially for weak spots like the eyes. Even Bai Chunian would need at least a month to recover completely.

Xiao Xun still wasn’t very nimble while walking. He walked over slowly, supporting himself with the floor. He lowered his head and quietly said to Bai Chunian, “Thank you, Instructor.”

“Oh, don’t mention it.” Bai Chunian didn’t treat it as a big deal.

Xiao Xun frowned and blamed himself. “I was absent-minded in combat and…and didn’t trust my teammates.”

“Do you trust them now?”

“Mn.”

“It’s alright, I’m also at fault.” Bai Chunian felt a little bit sorry for allowing a student to fall and break a bone. “I have to blame Han-ge for this. I thought he would catch you first if I kicked you down. How could I have known that Han-ge would be engrossed in staring at me? Han-ge truly loves me.”

“Shut up.” Han Xingqian lifted open his bandage. His eyeball was already a badly mangled mess, exposing his pitch-dark eye socket. Rotting flesh and a newly regenerated polyp were stuck to the bandage, and when it was torn off, it stimulated his nerves.

Bai Chunian hissed and sucked in a breath of cold air.

“Bear with it.” Han Xingqian gave him two injections of anesthesia in his eye socket, disinfected him with concentration, and cut the polyp. The bullet was embedded in the eye socket and could only be extracted with surgical forceps.

Bai Chunian, “Ai, you’re almost poking the back of my head.”

Han Xingqian, “The bullet is embedded deeply, what can I do?”

“Just leave it in there and let it be; it’s just a bullet. It’ll be fine once it self-heals and it’s buried there.”

“If you don’t take it out, you will have trouble going through the security checks in the future. Bear with it and don’t be squeamish.”

“It really hurts.” Bai Chunian had no choice but to hold Golden Silk Spider’s gun and study it to distract himself.

He gently touched the silk cocoon wrapped around the bottom of the gun. The gland inside was warm and still pulsing. It even exuded the smell of poppy pheromones.

“Is this a gland of one of Golden Silk Spider’s close relatives?” Bai Chunian shined a light through and tried to see the things in the silk cocoon. “Considering his character, it doesn’t seem like he would kill his own family, so he was forced? If so, why would he still have the gun?”

Bai Chunian thought, then a “bang” sounded.

He had put the gun on his forearm and pulled the trigger. A bullet penetrated his forearm, leaving a bloody hole, and the bullet was embedded in the wall across from him.

A strange scene appeared. The bullet hole on his forearm quickly recovered and healed without leaving any traces.

“Ah, as expected, it won’t work in someone else’s hands.” Bai Chunian stroked his chin and had a flash of realization. “Then I reasonably guess that the gland belonged to that mummy. The person died, but their gland remained.”

Several people were all shocked by his sudden gunshot, their entire bodies tensing up from it. They all looked over at Bai Chunian one after another. Han Xingqian scolded him as a lunatic.

“I must investigate this matter clearly.” Bai Chunian looked pensive. The 109 Research Institute had a major responsibility regarding this matter. Moreover, directly transforming the behavior of a human being could be called a serious violation of ethics. If it was exposed, it would definitely cause an uproar in society.

This was a good opportunity.

Lu Yan didn’t know what just happened, so he quietly and slowly walked over, slung his arm over Bai Chunian’s shoulder, and asked, “How can you still investigate? Golden Silk Spider is already gone, staying in a police station.”

“It’s easy to do now that he’s in there.” Bai Chunian held Golden Silk Spider’s gun and gently tapped the hollow of his palm. “Didn’t you hear him say that his body is packed full of microchips? We’ll just be asking for trouble by bringing him back to the general headquarters.”

“But think about it, what’s the first thing you do after entering prison?”

Lu Yan stupidly said, “What is it?”

“Idiot, body search and physical examination.” Bai Chunian ridiculed, “Removing living microchips and micro-bombs is a meticulous craft; let them do it. Plus, the International Business Federation is built on an isolated island in international waters, with many varied checkpoints, and is heavily guarded. Even if the Red-Throated Bird knows where he is, they won’t find him and bring him back.”

Han Xingqian knew that he was plotting a dangerous action plan again. “How do you want to do it?”

“I’ll tell you guys when the time comes. First, in these two days, let the International Prison’s helpers settle down Golden Silk Spider.”

The sound of water and a heavy object landing came from the deck. Bai Chunian raised his eyelashes keenly, and his eyes lit up. “Wife has returned.”

Not even a few minutes later, Rimbaud climbed in from outside the ship hold’s window, water droplets falling from his blonde hair.

Bi Lanxing had been worrying that Rimbaud would cause problems among a group of important people. After all, Rimbaud couldn’t articulate his words clearly most of the time. Only after seeing Rimbaud back did he heave a sigh of relief and hand a towel over.

Rimbaud took the towel, wiped the water from his hair, and beelined toward Bai Chunian, crawling over.

After Han Xingqian finished wrapping him up, Bai Chunian had a circle of bandages wrapped around his head to cover his left eye, revealing only one intact right eye.

“Finished?” Rimbaud asked.

“Mn.” Han Xingqian lowered his head to pack up his medicine box, “According to his constitution, it’ll take about a month to recover, and the medicine has to be reapplied every day.”

“Okay.” Rimbaud held Bai Chunian’s collar with his mouth, rushed him into another room of the ship’s hold, and carefully placed him on the bed.

Bai Chunian actually liked Rimbaud picking himself up with his mouth and carrying him around everywhere very much. For the cat family, this position had a strong sense of security and trust.

Rimbaud cupped his cheeks and looked closely. The more he looked, the more serious he felt like the injury was, and the angrier he became. He lowered his voice and lectured, “I should’ve brought you back and kept you locked up long ago, not letting you see anyone.”

“Ah, so fierce.” Bai Chunian didn’t have any reaction during the couple of hours his wound was being treated. But now, he suddenly became pitiful. He hugged Rimbaud’s waist, buried his head in his chest, and whispered, “Stop scolding me.”

“…” The fire in Rimbaud’s heart was extinguished at once.

They sat on the bed facing each other. Bai Chunian drew him in and muttered, “I sometimes want to quit too, but I’m not willing. I didn’t do anything wrong, so why should I leave?”

“Do what you want.” Rimbaud looked away, “I’ll always be here.”

Bai Chunian put his chin on Rimbaud’s shoulder, and the two of them stayed quietly in the dim room for a very long time.

Just when Rimbaud thought he had fallen asleep and wanted to properly hug him again, his neck was suddenly licked. The fine barbs on the blade of his tongue scratched him until his skin felt sore.
