Chapter 307 - Best Sister

Xiang Chen’s jawline was taut and defined, and he gave off a sharp and menacing aura that produced a natural sense of oppression.

The innocent viewers who were watching the livestream began to panic a little as they felt that Xiang Chen would beat Shi Sui up at any time.

However, Xiang Chen let his concern for his sister rule his head. He closed his eyes and said through clenched teeth, “If you can’t coax her well and cheer her up, you’re dead meat!”

Shi Sui said, “Sure, Brother~”

Xiang Chen cursed.

Xiang Yi hugged her knees and sat on the floor, leaning against the side of the bed as a myriad of thoughts ran through her mind.

‘Perhaps, Xiang Li’s guess is right.’

‘I’m not the true chosen one but just a substitute.’

In the worlds that she had transmigrated to, she had been mocked, betrayed, harmed, schemed against, and abandoned…but none of that mattered to her.

Reason being they had nothing to do with her.

She wasn’t bothered because she didn’t care.

However, all her hard work and efforts now seemed like a joke and a bubble she lived in.

Xiang Yi felt that she had an excellent mindset because she would be able to come to terms with reality calmly even when she was on the brink of death. However, she was really breaking down now.

Even the strongest people would have their Achilles’ heel.

Xiang Yi couldn’t accept this reality.

The door was unlocked with a clicking sound, but Xiang Yi ignored it. Only when she felt a warm and strong hand on her head did she sluggishly raise her chin to face him.

It was Shi Sui.

She forced herself to be brave, and she said in a soft but slightly hoarse voice, “How did you get in?”

Shi Sui coughed to clear his throat and seemed to have felt that what he was about to tell her wasn’t quite an honorable thing.

“When I was acting in a movie previously, I stayed in prison for a few days and learned a little bit about picking locks.”

“Oh, I see.” Xiang Yi tried to force herself to smile but to no avail.

Shi Sui’s eyes moved slightly, and he leaned forward to sit down beside her. With one leg against the ground and the other bent, he rose and fell, revealing his well-defined ankle bones. The soft fabric of his clothes grazed against his fair and cold skin.

“You don’t have to force yourself to smile if you don’t want to.”

“Do you need a shoulder or a piece of tissue?”

“I’d recommend the option of borrowing my shoulder because the clothes I’m wearing today are made of sweat-absorbent fabric, which should also work well for absorbing tears.”

“Want to give it a try, Xiang Yi?”

Xiang Yi hesitated for a few seconds before slowly, gently, and carefully leaning against his shoulder.

Although she often said that Shi Sui was like a little boy, she had actually often found him reliable and gentle, treating him like a brother since she was young.

Shi Sui accompanied her quietly.

There was nothing but silence in the room.

Some time later, Xiang Yi said sobbingly, “I suddenly miss my parents.”

Shi Sui pressed his thin lips together.

Xiang Yi’s parents passed away in an accident that the three of them had gotten into, and the most cruel thing was that Xiang Yi was the only survivor.

She witnessed her parents’ death with her very own eyes and was subject to lots of unnecessary, callous criticism.

Some of her senseless and silly elders would repeatedly ask six-year-old Xiang Yi if she missed her parents, said that her brothers would blame her for being a jinx, and tell her that she was about to be abandoned soon.

Once Xiang Yi cried, they would say things like— “Ah, this kid can’t take a joke at all. We were just making a casual remark, what is there to cry about?”

Shi Sui coaxed patiently in a gentle voice, “Your parents have become the stars in the sky who will always be watching over you.”

“Your brothers have never held it against you or gotten angry at you for it because all of them know that you’re the best sister in the world.”
