CH 28

The hearse landed on an old circular square.

The light here was dim, and several old brass street lamps couldn't even illuminate the ground. The stone fountain in the middle was covered in dust, and the surrounding houses looked dark and deep in the thick night.

Rode got off the car with the crowd and followed the driver into a large house right in front of them.

Before entering, Rode noticed a large spirit lamp hanging on one side of the house, and a plaque next to it read "Iron Cross District Defense Department."

The house was brightly lit inside, with a large hall in the center and dozens of small rooms on each side. A man wearing a dark shirt and a black vest stood in front of a large table, staring at the map on the table in deep thought.

The driver shouted, "Your Excellency, the students have arrived."

The defense chief woke up suddenly, lifted his head, and Rode saw a huge scar on his face, slanting from between his eyes, almost as if his head had been split open.

"Oh, good, very good, new strength has finally arrived."

The defense chief tried to squeeze out a smile, but the heavy sorrow made his facial muscles very stiff, and the smile was like crying.

The driver handed him a piece of paper. "This is their list and detailed information."

The defense chief quickly scanned it with his eyes.

"Stay-at-school students, stay-at-school students...all stay-at-school students? And one special student?"

The defense chief's face instantly revealed a real smile, and his spirits rose.

"Great, they are all excellent young men. The Iron Cross District is saved. I said the boss is not a brain-dead idiot, and the chief of staff did not go crazy because his wife left and his child is not his own. Hahahaha."

Really?

Is it okay to expose your superior's privacy like this?

The students had different expressions and remained silent.

Rode was even more shrunk in the crowd. Everyone around him was a head taller than him, and they all looked calm and restrained with a hint of killing intent. They were all equipped with various weapons, such as big knives, long swords, whips, millstone-like hammers, and even four-bladed giant axes. Most of them wore short jackets, black vests, and belts, and carried various types of potion bottles or items, looking very professional.

Only he was empty-handed, wearing the light blue school uniform of the academy, obviously a rookie.

"Am I going to be a burden?"

Rode suddenly thought of what Red Sleeve had said to him and secretly made up his mind to accurately state his strength later, not to misunderstand him, and let him pick up a few leaks in the back.

However, everyone else seemed to think otherwise.

When the defense chief shouted his name, everyone's eyes were not contemptuous or disdainful, only cautious and curious, even the defense chief himself.

"You are Rode? Indeed, a special student, really different from ordinary people."

He nodded in appreciation.

"Your teammates are Raisin, Eg, and Karamon. Your patrol area is White Flower Street, Stone Street, all the way to the Fifth Square, a total of 3,400 households and 21,000 people. Do you understand?"

The defense chief's rough fingers moved on the map, and his eyes, which protruded slightly because of the scar, stared at them.

"Understood." The other three, except for Rode, answered together.

"These are spirit whistles and signal flares. If you encounter any danger that you cannot handle, please use them immediately. There will be guards coming to support you. I won't say more. You are already official combat personnel and should be able to distinguish the level of danger."

The defense chief stuffed a whistle and two lumps of shit-like balls into Rode's hand, then turned his head to continue assigning teams, leaving no room for Rode to distinguish.A gray-clad staff member walked up and said, "Your hearse is over here."

Rode had no choice but to leave with the three others.

They walked out of the Defense Department and boarded the hearse.

It was a horseless carriage with a small compartment that could only seat four people.

As soon as the door closed, without any visible means of propulsion, it headed westward toward the street and then returned along the same route after reaching its destination.

The four of them stood on the gloomy roadside, their copper lanterns hanging from their waists illuminating their faces.

The big guy spoke first.

"Good evening, I'm Raisin, a newly-minted combatant who is studying advanced death curse defense at the school. My sequence is Flame Spirit, my soul attribute is Barrier, and I'm accustomed to playing the front, main, and auxiliary defense positions. My spiritual power level is three."

"This is Aig, also studying at the school. His sequence is Flame Spirit, his soul attribute is White Smoke, and he's accustomed to playing the central control or central defense position. His spiritual power level is three."

"This is Caramon, whose sequence is Starfire. He has ignited four fire seeds, and his most useful abilities are spiritual power resonance and water healing. He's accustomed to playing the rear support position. His spiritual power level is four."

As each person was introduced, they smiled and nodded at Rode.

"We've been partners for a long time, and we're glad to meet the legendary special student. We hope we can have a good cooperation."

After they finished speaking, the three of them shook hands with Rode, looking very respectful.

Rode hurriedly explained, "You've misunderstood. Although I'm a special student, I don't have much strength. I just entered the academy as a freshman."

The three of them were clearly surprised, and Raisin asked, "What's your ability?"

Rode said, "It's just a slightly enhanced observation ability, and I have no combat power. I only know how to use firearms."

The three of them looked at each other, and Rode clearly saw Raisin signal with his eyes.

The skinny Caramon hesitated for a moment before taking out a crystal ball filled with white mist. "What do you see?"

Rode was now very proficient in using the Soul Eye, and he opened it in an instant with a thought.

But when he looked inside, his eyes almost went blind.

"This...you guys have this too?"

The three of them obviously didn't understand what Rode was talking about, and Caramon grabbed him and asked urgently, "What did you see?"

"Do you really want me to say?"

A quick look at bit.ly/3iBfjkV will leave you more fulfilled.

"Of course!"

Rode could only describe what he saw on the little yellow piece of paper in as brief language as possible.

The three of them were stunned, obviously unprepared for such a thing.

Suddenly, Caramon let out a cry of grief, bursting into tears and pounding the ground along the road.

"...What's wrong with him?"

Raisin explained with a suppressed laugh, "This is the crystal ball his ex-girlfriend gave him when they broke up, saying that one day he would see the last layer and understand why they parted ways."

This is also possible...Rode didn't know what expression to use, so he could only express his condolences to the green-headed Caramon.

However, this led to a very bad consequence, which was that these three people no longer believed that he was very weak.

"Don't pretend."

Raisin looked at him disdainfully.

"You special students are playing tricks on us, pretending to be weak and then rushing out to save everyone at a critical moment. Come on, we're three guys here, no one is going to fall for that."

Even the small Aig shouted, "I'm not afraid to compare with you. Although I'm short, my length is definitely not inferior to yours!"

Although Rode repeatedly explained that he had only ignited one fire seed, had a spiritual power level of only one, had no combat experience, didn't know what a tactical position was, and had amnesia, they still didn't believe him."Don't pretend, anyone who can see the last layer of the white mist crystal ball must have a spiritual vision of at least 80. I have never met anyone with such a strong absolute vision."

"That's right. It is said that only the high-ranking investigators of the Investigation Legion can reach this level. Did King Sae give you this spark?"

Carlamon wiped away his tears and stuffed the crystal ball into his arms. "I'm giving it to you."

"This...isn't it inappropriate?" Rode instinctively wanted to push the crystal ball containing the small yellow film back.

"I don't want it!" Carlamon gritted his teeth and said, "That slut wasted my true feelings. I can't even bear to touch her hand. She...she...she actually..."

Raisin hooked his neck and smirked, "It's okay. You will find someone better. By the way, Rode, did you take a language and literature course? Your description is really vivid and touching."

Egg shouted, "That's right! I have never heard anything so exciting in my life. Come on, tell us more, brother!"

Carlamon stared at them angrily, but was pushed by Raisin. "Idiot, why are you still defending her? If she's willing to record it and give it to you, why are you afraid of others seeing it? Isn't it great to share the benefits with brothers?"

Egg also said, "Anyway, you only have a spiritual vision of 10 as a stone-wood core. You will never see it in your lifetime. Why not listen to Brother Rode's detailed description?"

Carlamon fell silent, his expression uncertain, and finally sighed, "Go ahead and tell us."

Rode felt very embarrassed and couldn't refuse their request, so he took out the crystal ball and watched while describing it.

It has to be said that the female lead's figure and kung fu are top-notch. Her slender waist, big waves, long white legs, flat stomach, and the suggestive depths are especially her sparkling white little feet. Every time it gets intense, all five toes will curl up tightly, making people imagine the deep stimulation she is enduring.

The play was also very open, but the male lead was dull, like a wooden puppet being manipulated.

The three of them quickly immersed themselves in it, constantly making pig-like noises, and the boring patrol became vivid and fragrant.

Although Rode lost his integrity, he became familiar with the three of them.

The only thing that made Rode somewhat relieved was that although they insisted that he was pretending to be weak, they also believed that he was a reconnaissance-type character and assigned him a tactical position of "rear reconnaissance," whose responsibility was to provide tactical early warning.

White Flower Street, Stone Street, and the Fifth Square are all less than two kilometers long, but they are very gloomy, with no street lights. The only light comes from the spirit lamps hanging outside each household.

And this is the first district of the outer city area, the farthest location from the Holy Fire in the entire royal city. Those who live here are poor civilians, and their spirit lamps are very small and dim, so the faint light that shines out of their houses is also very weak and cannot illuminate the surroundings at all.
