CH 2.2

Today’s Faith Has Been Recharged (2)

Lucia followed Anna whenever she prayed at Lady Jormundra’s temple ever since she was young. After sitting calmly just once or twice, she would always run around whenever Anna was praying. Just when Lucia was saying to herself that believing in gods was useless, Mystery struck up a conversation with her.

The two quickly became friends, and chatted across the confession room door while Anna prayed.

When she left her hometown, Lucia felt very sorry and went to say goodbye to her little friend. Unexpectedly, just three days later she met him again in Serancha.

Mystery laughed happily again and hinted, “Maybe I used another method?”

“… a flying funeral car?” Lucia asked hesitantly.

“Of course not. It’s time to tell you about this.” Mystery said lightly, “Actually, I am a god.”

“???” Lucia was shocked.

“Why are you so surprised?” Mystery asked inside the confession room. “Isn’t it enough to prove my identity that I could go from Aranthal to Serancha so quickly without riding a pterosaur?”

“Can’t a mage do the same?” Lucia said.

“If I were a mage, I would need to set up a teleportation array in both places in advance to use the teleportation spell. Have you seen a teleportation array in your hometown?” Mystery asked patiently through the door.

“Then, can’t a warrior do it as well? One with good endurance and fast running speed.”

Mystery was silent for a moment, “… Lucia, is it so difficult to believe that I am a god?”

“But, but when we chatted in the past, when I told you that it was better to rely on yourself than on gods, didn’t you agree?” Lucia shouted, “How can you be a god!?”

“There is nothing wrong with this statement, so of course I would agree with it.” Mystery explained Lucia’s question, “After all, there are a lot of believers who pray every day; it’s too troublesome to respond to each one. So to be fair, gods generally choose not to respond to any of them.

“……” Isn’t this god too realistic?

“But I am different.” Mystery whispered bewitchingly, “Become my follower, and I will answer every prayer of yours.”

Mystery just said that there were too many believers to respond to, wouldn’t this just be an empty promise?

Was this a bootleg god?

“Hmph, I am a staunch believer of materialism!” Lucia vowed, “I will not believe in gods!”

What good is there in believing in gods! Just give her money! How could a staunch materialist like her waste her precious time!?

“You already know that gods exist but you are still a materialist?” Mystery asked curiously, “Why?”

“There’s no conflict between knowing that gods exist and being a materialist!” Lucia defended herself using materialism unique to the Dragon Kingdom, “To me, gods are just a kind of more advanced species!”

“Hmm…” Mystery pondered, “I see, so that’s what you think?”

“Yes.” Lucia was extremely resolute.

There was a moment of silence in the confession room, then Mystery murmured, “It seems that I will need to show you some miracles.”

“Oh.” Lucia replied nonchalantly. “What kind of miracle?”

“Alright, try praying to me and ask for a miracle.” Mystery suggested.

“How do I pray?” Asked Lucia.

Although she always followed Anna to pray at Lady Jormundra’s temple, Anna always prayed normally and never asked for any miracle. Even if she did, Lucia who always ran away wouldn’t have known.

“… just say it casually and ask me to send you a miracle.”

Looking at Mystery’s inexperienced look, Lucia felt more and more than he looked like a bootleg god. Then, she prayed, “Oh Great Mystery, my god friend, please give me a miracle!”

“… what kind of prayer is this.” Mystery murmured dissatisfiedly, then a small handful of white light appeared in front of Lucia, and a small gold coin popped out from it.

“!!!” Lucia widened her eyes and looked at the gold coin in front of her.

“How about that, do you believe that I am a god now?” Mystery said.

“I believe, I believe, I believe!” Lucia excitedly reached out to the gold coin in the air.

“En.” Mystery was satisfied and let the gold coin in the air fall into Lucia’s hand. “Then, are you willing to be my follower?”

After receiving the gold coin, Lucia felt as if her heart had been purified. Although she was still 100% a materialist in her heart, she was willing to bring out that 100% materialistic faith and consider Mystery as her boss.

Believing in gods was so amazing!

If you believe in gods, you will get money! As long as he gives her money everyday, she can recharge1 her believer status everyday!

“I was wrong! I am your staunch follower!” Lucia swallowed her previous words instantly, “From today onwards, I’m your faithful follower, Mr. Mystery! Please tell me your divine domain and honorable title! I will definitely pray for you (after you renew your subscription fee)!”

“I haven’t thought about it yet.” Mystery said honestly, “You are my first follower.”

It seemed that he really was a bootleg god, Lucia thought to herself.

“Then what should I do for you, boss?” Lucia quickly got into the role of chief follower.

“I have no idea for the time being.” Mystery said, “Lucia, your mother has finished praying. Go back now.”

“Oh, then I’ll come to see you next time!” Lucia said professionally while holding her gold coin.

“You don’t have to come here. I can hear your prayers.” Before Mystery could finish speaking, he saw the little girl running away like the wind. He sighed with a smile, then went away.
