Chapter 102 - 102 The Patient Hunter

102 The Patient Hunter

“No, I didn’t.” Jing Yan lowered his eyes, sat up, and pulled her to the bed. “I should be the one asking you. Did that animal hurt you yesterday?”

He Miao shook her head and said with sincere gratitude, “No, I’m glad you came in time to help, Jing Yan. Thank you for suddenly coming to save me.”

In the past, she was only cold and distant to Jing Yan because she wanted to avoid the fate of being cannon fodder. Now, Jing Yan had indeed saved her life.

She blinked her eyes mischievously and smiled. “Grandpa didn’t ask you to come this time, did he?”

“You know about it?” Jing Yan’s heart could not help but beat wildly. Looking at the bright smile on her face, he could not help but smile.

Did she know that he had been using his grandfather as an excuse all along?

Could she have seen through his intentions? Now that she was smiling at him, did it mean that she was going to accept his feelings and be with him?

Jing Yan’s face blushed unconsciously. He clenched his fists by his side and his throat rolled up and down. He opened his mouth and found that he was too nervous to speak. The fireworks of joy in his chest exploded with a warm sweetness, which gradually spread to his limbs and bones.

Before he could slowly enjoy the sweetness, he heard He Miao suddenly laugh. “Even if Grandpa didn’t ask you to come, I know that you’re a very responsible man. Even though Grandpa forced you to become my brother, you still fulfilled your responsibility as an older brother. Jing Yan, don’t you think so? I should call you brother now.”

She looked up at Jing Yan’s stunned eyes and said, “Brother, thank you for coming to save me.”

The warmth in his body had completely disappeared and was replaced by a bone-chilling coldness. Jing Yan’s eyes were so cold that he could shoot icicles out of them.

He never thought that one day he would shoot himself in the foot. The cover story being siblings did come from him, but now he did not just want her to be his sister.

He opened his mouth and suddenly reached out to pull her into his arms. he buried his head in her shoulder and said dejectedly, “Who told you that I came to save you because I treated you as my sister?”

He Miao struggled to push him away and asked in confusion, “Isn’t it? Why else would you appear at my house last night?”

Jing Yan looked into her confused eyes and suddenly frowned. “Because I miss you.”

This sentence was too ambiguous. He Miao subconsciously held her breath, carefully thinking about the meaning of his words.

Seeing her at her wits’ end, Jing Yan seemed to already know her answer.

He took a deep breath and held her hand. In a low and gentle voice, he said, “He Miao, I’m hungry. I want to eat the food you make.”

He Miao seemed to inadvertently withdraw her hand and nodded with a smile. “I just happened to buy some groceries yesterday. What do you want to eat?”

“I’m fine with anything.” Jing Yan’s eyes followed her back as she walked away. He helped her pick up the fruits and vegetables scattered on the ground and then went into the kitchen with her to prepare breakfast.

Neither of them spoke. Jing Yan was immersed in this rare morning alone with her, not willing to disturb this sweet moment.

It was not that he did not want to confess, but it was his first time dealing with a relationship, so he would always be a little careful.

He had never been afraid of anything, but he was suddenly afraid of facing He Miao’s cold rejection. Before he had full confidence, he only wanted to stay by her side and treat her well in silence until she could accept his feelings.

Jing Yan’s lips curved into a smile. He lifted a hand to sweep away He Miao’s loose hair that was blocking her eyes and gently combed it behind her ears.

He Miao only resisted slightly, then stopped moving and focused on cooking.

In Jing Yan’s eyes, it was a great honor for her to not reject him.

He believed that as long as he slowly revealed his good intentions to her every day, one day, she would fall in love with him and be willing to be his.

Jing Yan finished his breakfast with He Miao and cleaned up the room together. He wiped the blood off the table and looked at He Miao’s sleepy face. Jing Yan sat on the sofa with Onion in his arms and smiled. “Sleep for a while. I’ll wake you up when it’s time.”

“You’re not going home?Grandpa Jing be worried about you.” He Miao tried to persuade him. Jing Yan’s behavior last night had been too strange, and she was worried that his body would not be able to take it.

Jing Yan, on the other hand, took it as another meaning. He glanced at her unhappily. “Are you chasing me away?”
