Chapter 216 - 216 Setting Off Fireworks

216 Setting Off Fireworks

On the night of New Year’s Eve, Butler Li went back to his house to spend the new year with his daughter.

He Miao and a few other servants who were willing to stay were making dumplings in the kitchen.

After Jing Yan washed his hands, he picked up the dough and asked, “Do you know how to make dumplings? Do you want me to secretly learn it before teaching you?”

“Why would I need that? I know.” He Miao’s fingers pinched the dumpling skin a few times, and a round and beautiful dumpling was formed.

Jing Yan was dumbfounded, and he could not help but say in joy, “My baby is really multi-talented.”

The servants of the Jing family were used to seeing their young master’s cold face, but this was the first time they saw him say such sweet words. They could not help but blush and laugh.

He Miao glared at him shyly, acting like she was going to chase him away.

Jing Yan quickly apologized and even copied her technique to make a perfectly shaped dumpling. “Just make two to satisfy your craving. I’ll take you to set off some fireworks.”

The servants did not dare to let the two of them help them make dumplings all the time. Moreover, there were not many people staying up for New Year’s Eve this year, so there were not many dumplings to make. The few of them were completely busy, so they quickly advised, “Yes, Miss He. You can go and play with Young Master Jing. Leave this to us.”

He Miao looked at Jing Yan, whose eyes were filled with anticipation. She could not resist the latter’s anticipation, so she washed her hands and smiled. “Then let’s go now. I’ll go get Grandpa to come out and take a look.”

“Grandpa said that he’s a little sleepy. We’ll go to the yard so that he can see it from his room. Jing Yan took He Miao’s hand and led her to an open space in the courtyard. He found a stone bench and carefully cushioned it for her to sit on.

He went to the storeroom and took out a few fireworks. He placed them on the stone table for her to see. “Which one do you want to light?”

He Miao raised her hand to pick and choose, taking out a few small fireworks she had never seen before. She smiled and said, “I’ll take this one. It looks like a windmill. It should be pretty, right?”

Jing Yan smiled but did not say anything. He took her hand and led her to an open space. After setting up the fireworks, he put the lighter in her hand. “Do you dare?” he asked. “I can also help you light it up.”

“Who says I don’t dare to?” He Miao pouted and raised her head arrogantly. She eagerly took out a lighter and lit the fuse, then quickly ran to the side with Jing Yan like a frightened rabbit.

Jing Yan was amused by her look. Just as the fuse was about to burn to the end, the pinwheel began to spin quickly. The colorful fireworks were like a bright river of stars, reflected in his eyes, but none of them were as eye-catching as the person in front of him.

It was the first time He Miao had seen fireworks like this. She jumped up and down in joy, clapping her hands. When she noticed that the person next to her did not move, she turned her head curiously and saw Jing Yan’s unblinking eyes.

His eyes were so focused and affectionate that she could not help but look at them greedily, even more so than the dazzling fireworks.

“Miaomiao.” Jing Yan held her hand and pulled her in front of him. He could not help but lower his head to her lips. His deep voice sounded beside her ear in the winter night with moist heat, “Do you like it? I’ll play with you again next year, okay?”

He Miao lowered her eyes in embarrassment, her eyes fixed on his broad chest. He nodded and said, “Okay, we’ll still be spending the new year together next year.”

Jing Yan’s grip on her hand tightened, and his breathing became a little rushed. “Let’s be together every year from now on, okay? Miaomiao, I really like you. I want to like you for a long time.”

“Aren’t we going to set off the fireworks?” He Miao turned around, so embarrassed that the tips of her ears had turned pink. “D-don’t say anymore. Let’s just continue with the fireworks. There’s still so much more!”

“Say you like me first, then we’ll continue with the fireworks.” Jing Yan pulled her into his arms and leaned close to her ear.

He Miao could not stand his intimate actions, and her heart almost jumped out of her chest. She quickly pushed his chest and begged for mercy. “I like it, I like it too.”

“What do you like?” Jing Yan cupped her slightly cold face and put on her hat to block the cold wind of the late night.

He Miao felt her face heat up. She did not need to wear a hat to block the wind, but she still could not help being immersed in this gentleness. She pursed her lips and said in a low voice, “I like you too.”

As soon as she finished speaking, He Miao’s cold lips were suddenly kissed by a pair of warm lips. Their hot breaths intertwined with each other until she could not breathe. Jing Yan then kindly let her go and took her hand to continue picking the fireworks.

“Which one do you want next?”

When Jing Yan said this, He Miao could clearly feel her breathing becoming rapid, and her chest heaving up and down. He Miao could also tell that his mood was restless at the moment. She did not dare to speak carelessly, so she raised her hand and pointed at a slightly larger firework, indicating that she wanted to light this.

Jing Yan did as he was told and set the fireworks on the ground, lighting them up himself.
