CH 40.3

After narrating the past events, Xie Zhiwei said with difficulty: “Jianwei, Lu Li is with you not because he likes you, but because he is retaliating against me.”

Yan Ke wanted to flip the table: [This guy is really shameless!]

Xie Jianwei: [It’s a sign of a flaw.]

His heart was full of fire so Yan Ke couldn’t think calmly: [How?]

Xie Jianwei smiled and said: [It1 doesn’t know that this is only a dream.]

[Ah?] Yan Ke’s mind couldn’t keep up, but Xie Jianwei didn’t explain any further as he was busy thinking about something.

Based on his observations so far, he surmised that this thing is probably attached to Lu Li’s spirit and is capable of manipulating the dreamscape to a certain extent, but it cannot distinguish between reality and falsehood

His mind was full of such thoughts, , but Xie Jianwei’s face was showing a surprised and stunned expression: “This … you …”

Xie Zhiwei appeared to be very guilty: “I’m sorry, because of my stupidity, I also implicated you.”

What could Xie Jianwei say? He could only stand up in anger and leave without looking back!

“Jianwei!…” Xie Zhiwei shouted at him.

Xie Jianwei ignored him and strode out of the private room.

Xie Zhiwei only had one purpose, that is, to incite disharmony between Xie Jianwei and Lu Li. It seems that he knows very well that by swallowing the bright side of his host, he could behave unscrupulously on the dark side.

How could Xie Jianwei allow that to happen?

Xie Jianwei was furious when he left the restaurant, but even until the time came for him and Lu Li to leave for M country, he said nothing about that incident.

What’s there to mention? He already knew that most of what Xie Zhiwei said about his relationship with Lu Li was nothing but fake.

The two finally set off for M Country, and after settling down, they went to participate in the auditions together.

Although the role had already been set for a long time, it was still necessary to find get a feeling for that role. First, let them play the character, then let the director look at the fit.

The results were as imagined. Hossenfeld was so happy that he couldn’t help but clapped his hands as he walked towards Lu Li: “Reliable! Reliable!” Hossenfeld only learned some Chinese words, so it was a given that he had such a strange pronunciation. 2

Lu Li smiled and replied to him in fluent English.

The two talked together and Xie Jianwei listened on the side.

Everyone was equipped with a ‘language translator’ in the Interstellar era, which can translate all languages between different races and different species, so there was no need for anyone to take language courses.

However, Xie Jianwei has a strong learning ability, and English itself is not a tricky language for him. After he accepted the role and confirmed that he’ll be staying in M country for half a year, he started studying the said language’s basics.

Of course, he wasn’t that fluent in it but his grasp on the said language was already remarkable; after all, normal people cannot learn up to such a level in a short amount of time.

But with Lu Li on his side, it’s okay for him to act silly and cute. Moreover, this is another chance for him to rely on Lu Li given that “he couldn’t talk to other people that much because of the language barrier.”

Also, why attempt to exert effort if one could become a salted fish?3

And so, Xie Jianwei didn’t communicate with others that much except when it’s about the script.

Lu Li encouraged him to adapt to the spoken language, but Xie Jianwei always said: “Senior Lu is here, so there’s no problem.”

After hearing that reason,  Lu Li didn’t force him anymore to do so.

Inside a gloomy castle, Xie Jianwei, dressed in black, stood on a high place while Lu Li was on one knee in front of him, his gesture full of respect and piety.

The photographer quickly pressed the shutter to capture that scene.

Hossenfeld exclaimed: “We can use that as one of the film’s poster.”

Xie Jianwei played the role of the villain. Although there was no need to perform a full-out large fighting sequence, it still included several dangerous stunts that required wireworks.

The third male lead played by Lu Li is Xie Jianwei’s subordinate; a semi-human4 after a transformation.

In the film’s plot, Lu Li’s character used to be on the righteous side and was the passionate male lead’s best friend. However, an accident happened —he got seriously injured while blocking a bullet for the male lead. He thought he was dead, but he came back to life except, he lost his memories. He became a strong transformed being who only obeyed Xie Jianwei.

Xie Jianwei’s role has a double identity. He’s a good friend of the main character as well —a young Chinese man with a weak body but astute mind. On the other hand, he is also the biggest villain in the background, the same person the male lead abhorred.

It’s a very difficult role to execute. Although he felt that Xie Jianwei is qualified for the part, Hossenfeld was still worried that Lu Li’s acting skills would overwhelm Xie Jianwei’s, but upon witnessing the two people’s high acting compatibility during the audition, he’s not concerned with that issue anymore.

When Xie Jianwei first saw the script, his mind became full of nostalgia, because Lu Li’s role as the transformed being reminded him of something that happened on reality.

A few years ago, Lu Li had sustained a life-threatening injury, but there was no way to treat him without escaping that hellhole. With  no other choice, Xie Jianwei froze Lu Li’s body to slow down the worsening of the injuries while at the same time maintained his neural connections. Xie Jianwei then put him into  a fighting mecha and connected his brain into it, so that Lu Li could become a“ War God” that could continue dealing with the enemies.5

During that time, Lu Li was really not a human being. With his body made of steel, he was afraid of hurting Xie Jianwei with just one touch. After all,  Xie Jianwei’s entire palm could only hold one of  Lu Li’s fingers, and those fingers itself  were  high-power impact guns that can destroy mountain.

Lu Li practiced extreme cautiousness around him, while Xie Jianwei enjoyed watching the former’s clumsy appearance and found it extremely adorable.

“War God” was Xie Jianwei’s masterpiece, and to this day, that name was still engraved on Lu Li’s chest, like a life-long vow.

Although there’s a huge difference between a transformed human and turning into a “War God”, the dreariness Xie Jianwei felt, and was feeling because of two’s circumstances was similar. And it made him want to constantly touch Lu Li.

Lu Li and Xie Jianwei were quite open with their intimacy thus it didn’t take too long for Hossenfeld to realize that there was some sort of relationship between them. He asked Lu Li: “Dwarf(ǎirén) ?”

With his poor Chinese, it took a few seconds for his listener to understand that he was saying “Lover(àiren) ?” Lu Li smiled and nodded.

With a snap of his fingers, Hossenfeld made some adjustments on the script. On the film’s finale, Xie Jianwei, who committed numerous heinous actions, fell off a cliff and died. And this time, Director Hossenfeld changed it so that Lu Li would follow the villain into his death ¾meaning he would also throw himself into the cliff…

After the correction, the director said: “Romantic!”

Xie Jianwei : “…” What kind of shitty plot is that!

********

Half a year passed by in the blink of an eye.

Xie Jianwei just finished shooting his last scene, but something unexpected happened.

“Cut!”

Xie Jianwei sighed in relief, but suddenly, his vision blurred. His body leaned forward uncontrollably, and he fainted.

Lu Li hugged him and called him anxiously: “Xie Jianwei?”

He heard Lu Li’s voice, but his head was so confused he couldn’t understand his words.

.

Xie Jianwei remained unconscious for some time, but he felt like he had only closed his eyes for a few minutes. When he woke up, he heard soft voices conversing outside his ward.

He could feel that his body was feverish. He thought to himself: My physique right now is indeed quite ordinary, but it seems like I only have a fever. Why did I faint?

After mulling over this issue, a word pierced into his ear—

[Leukemia——]

Xie Jianwei: […]

Yan Ke: […]

Leukemia? Leukemia? That Leukemia?

Xie Jianwei was flabbergasted: [Leukemia?]

Yan Ke was fairly serious: [Leukemia— one of the three important elements of a dog blood drama, has appeared.] (t/n: I kennat lolololol)

[What are the other two elements?] Xie Jianwei silently asked.

Yan Ke: [Car accident and two people in love turned out to be brother and sister. … Oh no, in your case it would be brother and brother since your with the Marshal.]

Xie Jianwei: [….]

Yan Ke lamented, [After getting out of this dreamscape,  I’ll burn all of my good brother’s  books.]  It was simply leading other people astray!

After experiencing several car accidents, Military Advisor Xie finally tasted leukemia. Are they going to be siblings next time? Yan Ke was deep in thought regarding this scenario.

Compared to Yan Ke’s silly thoughts, Xie Jianwei was quite calm: [This disease is probably not caused by Lu Li. This is not the “God” of this dream’s doing…]

Yan Ke froze, and his flying brain returned for a bit: [That’s right … How could the Lord Marshal bear to make you sick..]

[Do you know how this disease is treated in this era?]

Yan Ke is a doctor in the Intergalactic era, but for the ancient Earth’s treatment method …

But still, he said: [I’ll check it!]

After a short while he returned: [Bone marrow transplant …]

Xie Jianwei smiled and said, [So that’s how it is huh….]

Bone marrow transplant requires matching, and in  Allogeneic transplant6 , a matching donor is hard to find. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration if the success of finding a match is one in a million, but a match with blood relatives have a relatively high success rate.

Parents are always half match and siblings will have 25% chance of being a perfect match7 .

This may sound a bit low, but it Xie Jianwei was somehow sure that in this dream, he and Xie Zhiwei would match without any problems.

Why so confident?

Because what is the use of this leukemia scenario if it’s not successful?

Also,Tones (in MC, there are four plus one neutral) are also important for proper communication. So in here, Hossenfeld said kāopù instead of the correct  kàopǔ (reliable). I can’t really find any particular meaning to kāopù, but kāo has the same tone for the character 操(cāo ). And, 操(cào/cāo) is one of the substitutes for the term  肏(cào), which means fck.
