CH 43.3

Lu Li was in a good mood when he returned, and as soon as he walked in, he heard some unusual sounds— the chopping, the sizzling of oil as something entered the pan, and the collision of the spatula and the pot…

The familiar and distant sounds startled  Lu Li.

He walked into the place that was supposed to be a guest room… and saw Xie Jianwei.

Xie Jianwei was wearing a light-colored shirt, his cuffs were rolled up to his elbows, and the exposed forearms were pale and delicate.

He moved the spatula skillfully, flipping the green vegetables.

Lu Li almost frozen in place and he watched the man’s actions without blinking.

“A gentleman stays clear of the kitchen” —he thought that Xie Jianwei was a follower of this saying. He could bury himself in smoke and the smell of grease, but Xie Jianwei…

He couldn’t imagine Xie Jianwei being in the kitchen.

It’s like putting a crystal snow lotus born in a high mountain into the mud…

Lu Li wanted to speak, but Xie Jianwei beat him into it “You’re back? Just wait a minute. It’s almost done..”

Lu Li was stunned.

Xie Jianwei: “It’s all the food you love. It took me a lot of effort to get this lobster. So no matter how it tastes like, you have to eat it.”

Lu Li’s Adam’s apple bobbed up and down, and he whispered: “You…”

Xie Jianwei, who was putting the vegetables on a dish, turned to Lu Li and winked, “If you like it, I’ll make it for you again in the future whenever I have time.”

Make it for you again… For you… Again..

Lu Li’s heart was beating loudly as he realized: So he especially made all of these for me!

They had been together for over ten years and spent so much with each other, but as long as Xie Jianwei said any words of love, his heart would still become so hot, like it’s on the verge of catching fire.

Xie Jianwei finished four dishes and one soup. After serving the food on the table, he said, “What are you standing there for? Come and taste it.”

Lu Li nodded, and after sitting down at the table, he began to “taste” the food. Although his mouth was busy eating, his eyes were glued to Xie Jianwei’s body, his intense gaze overflowing with deep affection.

Xie Jianwei heart was full of sweetness because of those pair of eyes, but his face and voice were calm when he asked: “How is it?”

Lu Li thought to himself that even if Xie Jianwei made a dish out of stone, as long as he made it for him, he wouldn’t hesitate to eat it and would boast about it to others in passing.

Xie Jianwei poked him lightly, “Does it taste good?”

“It’s delicious.” Lu Li said, “The best foods I’ve ever tasted.”

Xie Jianwei smiled and said, “Okay, I get it. It’s like your mouth is full of honey bah.”

“I’m serious.” Lu Li suddenly lowered his voice, “It’s really, very, delicious.”

Xie Jianwei’s heart felt sweet and at the same time, sour.

Sweet, because of how much Lu Li loves him.

Sour, because of how much Lu Li loves him.

Loving someone too much could make people feel sad, because all your emotions— your joys and sorrows— are tied to that one person.

But fortunately, he also loved Lu Li, and he wouldn’t fail him in this regard.

********

After a day in reality, Xie Jianwei was already planning to go into the next dream.

Xie Jianwei didn’t dare to stay in the reality for too long, because the frequency of Lu Li’s personality rotation had changed. If he stayed for a long time, Lu Li would probably notice something.

Now that the treatment is going smoothly, there must be no mistakes.

Yan Ke, who went to clean his old pal’s hard drive1, had also returned.

Xie Jianwei asked: “That good brother of yours…What’s his pen name?”

Yan Ke: “I think it was Duan Duan2.”

Xie Jianwei: “…”

Yan Ke waved his hand, “He writes yellow books3, but he named himself Duan Duan instead of Chang Chang4. Tsk tsk, how silly.”

Xie Jianwei: “…”

Yan Ke continued speaking like a true old driver5: “Hehehe, can a man still call himself cool if he’s too short(duǎn)?”

Xie Jianwei: I better not explore the world of the ‘young people’… since it’s full of pits…

.

.

With the start of a new round of treatment, Xie Jianwei now had two tasks: one was to get rid of “that thing” attached to Lu Li’s personality, and the other was to appease Lu Li’s personality.

The former must precede the latter because if he placates Lu Li before getting rid of “It”, then it’s possible that “It” would cause new troubles. If that happens, he might have to try and pacify Lu Li all over again.

Therefore, from now on, he needed to explore and test the waters first.

Last dream was Xie Zhiwei, but this time… it’s hard to say who it would be.

But that’s okay. As long as he put enough bait, then “it” would definitely bite.

Again, Military Advisor Xie never lacked patience.

Yan Ke prepared the magnetic field and said, “My lord, it’s about to start.”

“Alright.”

.

.

.

After a little discomfort, Xie Jianwei opened his eyes.

He then heard Yan Ke’s voice: [It’s so dark …]

It was indeed dark, so dark that he couldn’t even see his fingers.

Xie Jianwei tried to adapt to the darkness, but he still couldn’t see anything.

Where is this? What is going on?

Xie Jianwei tried to reach out and touch his surroundings, but he couldn’t even feel the existence of his hands.

Yan Ke exclaimed: [My lord! It seems like your body is a mass of black fog!]

Xie Jianwei : “…” What kind of dream is this.

Yan Ke’s perspective was slightly different from that of Xie Jianwei’s, because he has a god-like point of view. Although he couldn’t see far, he could still see Xie Jianwei clearly in front of him.

It was pitch black, and neither the end nor a light could be seen, but this darkness didn’t exude any sense oppressiveness. On the contrary, it gave off a soothing feeling that could relax a person’s mind, just like when you’re sleeping on a soft bed.

Xie Jianwei felt like such, but Yan Ke was anxiously yelling: “Is there a problem with the magnetic field? Are we in the wrong place? What’s this dream about? Or perhaps the Marshal isn’t dreaming right now?

Xie Jianwei comforted him: “It’s okay. I was watching you work the entire time, so there shouldn’t be any problems.”

Yan Ke was still worried: “If that’s true, then what’s going on?”

Xie Jianwei: “Let’s just wait and see.”

And so they waited.

They waited for a long time, but still, nothing happened. Yan Ke, who couldn’t take it anymore, was about to cut off the connection to return to reality but then….

…The darkness in front of Xie Jianwei’s eyes brightened.

In fact, it’s not quite right to describe it this way. The scene he entered into was still lacking in light and somewhat eerie.

But compared to the complete darkness before, this brightness was already gratifying.

Xie Jianwei was still adjusting his sight when he suddenly heard a soft voice near him: “Welcome back, my lord.”

He turned his head and saw a string of people in black clothes kneeling on the polished black marble floor.

Yan Ke was surprised: [Oh my mother! Another out-of-the-ordinary dream yet again.]

Xie Jianwei raised his hand and spoke in a natural manner: “Get up, all of you.”

The black-clad people, whose faces were covered within their cloaks, rose up one by one. They stood  in line respectfully, with their heads facing down.

Xie Jianwei looked around.

The surroundings were that of a typical Gothic architectural style — large arched doorways and countless relief sculptures— pervading the entire hall a sense of mystery.

The stained glass window in the side gallery was enormous, but it no bright colors could be seen in it— instead, it’s plastered with a single, condensed, black streak of depression and death.

The original purpose of a window was to bring light and hope to a building, but this one felt like a hoard of wandering evil spirits were stuck in it—blocking the light and severing any hope — leaving the hall suffused with silence and grimness.

Xie Jianwei felt that his identity this time was probably not very good.

He bowed his head slightly and saw that he was also wearing a black robe, and several silver, frost-like hair strands were resting against the black fabric.

Silver hair and black cape. What does this mean?

Someone at the front said to Xie Jianwei, “My lord, please come this way.”

Xie Jianwei followed behind and they walked through the long corridor, towards the side hall.

The door to the partial hall was silvery grey with black thorns entwined on it, as if touching it would stain it with blood. And the person who led Xie Jianwei here raised his hand to meet those spikes.

Xie Jianwei frowned, the blood did not flow out as he thought.  The person’s hand was clearly pressed on the thorns, but he was unharmed.

Seems like he’s not human, Xie Jianwei came to this conclusion.

After the door opened, Xie Jianwei felt a strong sense of familiarity before he even entered, as if something was waiting for him there.

What is it?

Xie Jianwei walked inside and in an instant, candles lit up around the dark room. In the dim light, a huge scythe was arrogantly hovering in mid-air.

Xie Jianwei: “…”

Yan Ke was cleverly exclaimed: [My mother! Grim Reaper? You….]

Xie Jianwei was exasperated: [Lu Li sure knows a lot.]

Then, it was as if the scythe had seen Xie Jianwei — it moved slightly, then it took the initiative to deliver itself into Xie Jianwei’s palm.

Xie Jianwei shook his hand. He thought that it would be very heavy but unexpectedly he held it in his palm smoothly and with ease.

Yan Ke, who was starry-eyed with infatuation, exclaimed: [Oh goodness, so handsome bah!]

Xie Jianwei already had a cold and aloof appearance, but now, with his silver hair, coupled with the black robe and huge scythe…

The whole picture could be described as nothing but wickedly beautiful. His whole being was emanating with great power and overflowing with dark charm.

The black-robed man outside the door knelt on one knee and said, “Congratulations, my lord, on your return.”

Xie Jianwei nodded lightly. When he released the scythe, it floated around his hand gently as if it had its own consciousness.

Xie Jianwei finally understood his identity.

""

The Grim Reaper.

A “God” who declares death and collects the souls.

Xie Jianwei walked around, planning to familiarize himself with his surroundings, but he unexpectedly met an acquaintance.

The person was tall. He was also wearing the same cold and austere black robe as that of Xie Jianwei’s, but on him, it looked casual and careless.

Yan Ke: [Oh wow…Admiral Lorren is here again.]

That’s right …… It was Lorren, and he also had an exaggeratedly huge scythe floating behind him, but unlike Xie Jianwei’s, which was full of magnificence and sophistication, the one on Lorren’s back was rough and bold, almost bandit-like.

Xie Jianwei thought: That scythe actually matches Lorren so perfectly.

Lorren was obviously an old acquaintance of Xie Jianwei: “You just woke up but you’re already going on a mission?  You’re really dedicated huh.”

Xie Jianwei just stared at him calmly.

Lorren continued: “Why don’t you get a demon messenger to serve you? Aren’t you tired of doing everything yourself?”

What the hell is a demon messenger? Xie Jianwei’s mind was confused but he continued to remain silent.

Lorren chuckled and said, “How about I lend you one? I just recently took in a very cute little guy.”

He flicked his fingers, and a baby-faced young man appeared out of thin air.

Xie Jianwei: “…”

Yan Ke took a deep breath: [Oh my god. Is that me?]

Indeed… Lorren’s “cute little guy” looked exactly like Yan Ke.
