CH 44.2

Xie Jianwei “ran into” Lorren… again.

“Speaking of which, why aren’t you bringing Little Kè with you?”

“Why should I? Once I  lift my finger, he’ll come anyway.” Reapers can summon their servants at will, so the latter didn’t have to follow their masters every time.

Xie Jianwei smiled: “He’s a pure demon.”

When Lorren heard this, his chest puffed up again, “So what? He has already signed a contract with me, moreover, it’s a red contract at that —therefore even if I ask him for pleasure, he could only agree.”

Yan Ke: [……] Why hadn’t I noticed before that Admiral Lorren was the kind of person who needed some beating for his brain to function properly??

While thinking that the two playboys being constantly together would only end up in chaos, Xie Jianwei still decided to follow through with his plans. He cleared his throat and said, “Don’t be complacent. Although he had signed a contract with you if you don’t look after him carefully,  are you sure he wouldn’t do something behind your back?”

Lorren was visibly startled upon hearing that.

Xie Jianwei hinted: “What kind of bet did you make? He lost at it so easily? Could it be that he deliberately wanted to invade the Middle Realm?”

Lorren was not stupid, and he immediately realized how irresponsible he was: “I was negligent.”

Xie Jianwei said: “Therefore, you have to keep him by your side at all times.”

Lorren quickly nodded: “Okay!”

Xie Jianwei didn’t know if Yán Kè really did have any other goals, but the more important thing was that he had already achieved his own goal.

********

In order to prevent his own demon from doing ‘bad things’, Lorren began to bring him everywhere he went. He was already striking enough by himself, and now that he was walking around with such an eye-catching demon all day long, it didn’t take long before more than half of the reapers in the Middle Realm became aware that Lorren had a pure demon as a messenger.

The lower-ranked reapers were full of envy and they all became even more respectful towards Lorren;  the ones who had the same rank as him, however, began to feel unhappy. Though they did not show it in a blatant way, they whispered about it with each other in private.

This was the moment that Xie Jianwei was waiting for.

“Look at how shameful Lorren was being. It’s just getting a demon, isn’t it? Why is he acting so proud, even parading him like that ?”

“That’s right. He takes him everywhere he goes for fear that people won’t know that his messenger is a demon.”

“Didn’t Xie Jianwei also have a demon as a messenger back then? But never once have I seen him take it with him all day!b

“Yeah, I heard that it was a great demon with a high rank and was also famous in the Demon Realm.”

Xie Jianwei finally heard what he wanted to hear.

These two began to whisper as they started talking more, “Xie Jianwei is really powerful. He subdued a great demon like that and even went straight into the Heavenly Realm, almost killing an archangel.”

“Keep your voice down, that’s a taboo topic..”

“It’s okay. The people down there can’t hear us. The only ones who have the ability to eavesdrop at this distance are those on Five or Six stars Reapers but they already know much more than us.”

“That’s true …...” the one with a sharper voice continued after relaxing, “I think Xie Jianwei is really a god. He’s usually so gentle, but he’s so scary when he gets mad.”

“But it was a good way to let off some steam…We aren’t affiliated with the Heavenly Realm in the first place, so who are those bird people to tell us what to do…”

“Our relationship with them is indeed not that of affiliation, but it’s not hostile either. Rushing there to pick a fight while bringing a great demon is….ahem…not a really good idea.”

“Still, isn’t it those bird folks’ fault? They killed Xie Jianwei’s friend, right? I heard that’s the reason he got provoked into making such a big move.”

The one with the thicker voice lowered his tone: “I heard more than that…”

“You mean that scandal between Xie Jianwei and the archangel?”

“Ahem …… Who knows if it’s really true or not, but from what I’ve heard, the archangel cheated on him that’s why in a fit of anger,  Xie Jianwei went on the heavens to kill that cheater!”

“Well, I guess only Lorren knows about the whole story.”

“It’s strange though….That big mouth of Lorren’s dares to say anything, but he’s tight-lipped as a mussel regarding Xie Jianwei’s matters.”

“If he doesn’t have that advantage, Xie Jianwei would never treat him as a friend.”

“Hah… Lorren, that bastard, is really overflowing with luck that he was able to befriend Xie Jianwei and now get a demon as a messenger.”

Their conversation circled back to Lorren, shredding about his shitty luck.

Xie Jianwei did get a lot of information, but it’s all a bit confusing…….

Yan Ke counted: [The great demon, the archangel, your friend who was killed by the archangel…]  and he too was now confused [Which one of them is the Marshal?]

Xie Jianwei: […it’s hard to tell.]

The simplest and at the same time, the crudest way to determine which one was Lu Li was to investigate which amongst the three Xie Jianwei had slept with.

But unfortunately …… if their relationship was a low-key one and they didn’t show affection in public that often, it’s hard for anyone to know about such intimate things.

Although the two reapers had suspected that Xie Jianwei and the archangel had some sort of relationship, it was more hypothetical and its authenticity was still up for debate.

As for the friend who was ‘killed by the archangel’…… if that person didn’t really die and was still alive, then it’s possible that he’s Lu Li.

There’s also the great demon that Xie Jianwei was so suspicious of before, but Xie Jianwei thought: If that demon was really Lu Li, he would have climbed into my bed given that we had spent so much time together, right?

Besides, if the two of them really did something, some kind of rumors would have arisen and the two reapers just now would have mentioned it.

Xie Jianwei considered all the possibilities, and after pondering for a while he told Yan Ke: [There’s no need to hurry. Let’s just wait and see.]

If he didn’t look for Lu Li, Lu Li would definitely take the initiative to look for him, therefore, it’s better to wait obediently than to continue making wild guesses.

In addition…he could also gather more information with his conventional verbal exchanges with Lorren: Let’s see if he really knows anything.

He then decided to look for Lorren again, but the guy had apparently already gone on a mission to the human world.

Reapers can only come and go to the human realm at will if they take a mission,, and they can also observe the human realm as well using a crystal ball, but only to observe the task’s target.

Lorren was not there, so was Yán Kè.

Xie Jianwei then decided to simply take a mission as well so that he could set off to the human world too.

Yan Ke was quite excited, “A reaper’s task book is quite fashionable!” he exclaimed, “But Scythes are really more stylish, and it can  even shrink!” (t/n: a grim reaper fanboy lol)

Xie Jianwei’s huge scythe hanging behind his back had become a finger-long pendant through his mind’s command. Although it became smaller, it still looked exceptionally good and impressive, and one could tell at a glance it is not an ordinary item.

When their scythes are in their original state, reapers can’t be seen by the mortals’ naked eyes. However, if it’s in small form, the reapers, their owners can choose to show themselves or continue to remain unseen.

The reason why Xie Jianwei made his scythe smaller wasn’t that he didn’t want to show his form —he was just defending himself against his own kind.

Scythes are very distinct and personal— almost like the reaper’s unique identification card—and no cautious person would blatantly show such kinds of things for all the people to see.

The social development of mankind was still based on ancient earth— in fact, it seemed to have gone far more back, as instead of cars,  horse-drawn carriages were the ones used for transportation, and human clothing looked more puffy and cumbersome to wear.

Yan Ke, a historical waste, lamented after taking a look at the local customs: “The Marshal’s historical knowledge is really good.”

Xie Jianwei: “I taught him all of the academic courses.b

Yan Ke immediately gave praise: “My lord you’re really well-versed in all kinds of things! The Marshal surely learned a lot from you.”

Xie Jianwei: “But in terms of history, I only taught him about our galaxy.”
