Chapter 34 Making Money

Although he didn't have much yet, Aion's mother told him that it would be a lot faster to earn money if he bought terrains or houses and then used magic to repair or build things on them that people might want. He realized that she had a point, but the issue was that the price of any terrain or building in the capital was too expensive. Even the smallest houses cost at least ten gold coins. People that didn't have much money only lived there because they inherited those places from their parents.

Since it has come to that, Artemisia told him that he could use magic and the guild to obtain more funds. Although he couldn't register, he could put offers there of things that he was selling as well… that place really had many services.

For the next week, Artemisia taught Aion how to control his magic, and then she taught him to make sculptures using ice and earth magic. Selling random things was weird for nobles and militaristic families, but they still valued art and such. Most of them were a vain bunch, after all. In any case, the first few sculptures that Aion made were on the small size and weren't that good, but he had an idea of a statue that would look cool even while rough. It was the statue of Odin holding balmung.

Aion recalled that he had seen a show with an image like that, and he decided to replicate it. The small size wasn't half bad, so Aion began to work on the bigger version. It took three days because, with his current magic power, Aion could only make something on the size of a brick with one point of his mana.

"You made that?" Georges asked when Aion began to pull the statue using a cart that he found in the warehouse.

"Yes, I figured I could make some money while training my magic," Aion said. "Anyway, I am going alone, I can't risk enduring the stares of your mothers behind my back again."

While he was pulling the cart, Aion wondered if he should rip off the statues of Earth. There were a lot of famous ones that he could use… Still, he decided to leave those thoughts aside. He didn't know if that statue on the show that he saw was based on a real one, though. Regardless, Jagger frowned when he saw Aion alone in the guild and with a statue.

"Oh… you are one brave kid to come alone after that incident," Jagger said.

"I want to sell this," Aion said.

"Hmm… I didn't know that you could sell the things of your father. I didn't know that he had sculptures at his home either," Jagger said.

"It wasn't his," Aion said.

"Well, it doesn't matter," Jagger said. "We can sell or auction it, but we will take twenty percent of the price."

"I will return in one week to get the money," Aion said.

Aion had no interest in talking more than he had to with people that had eyes filled with prejudice. So, he left as soon as he could. During that week, he kept working on improving his skill with magic, and he also made another one. This time, he made one that looked like a nordic warrior with an ax in each hand.

When he reached the guild, Aion learned that he got seventy silver coins from his first creation. It wasn't half bad, considering that he only worked for six hours to make it. The second made forty, and the third of a chained warrior made fifty.

"I guess I need to focus on rough but cool sculptures," Aion thought. "It would be easier to improve if the system recognized the ancient magic, but it doesn't…"

"Well, I am also improving the mage class, so I don't have to hurry while making two gold coins a month," Aion thought. "In any case, it has been two months since Lexus left… I thought that he was going to join a battle, not a war."

There was a chance that Aion was exaggerating, and his father was only guarding the border. Still, that was a lot of time away from home. Henri and Philip, in less than one month, were going to join the battalion under another commander, and it would be nice for them if their farther were with them before they departed. While they could return home for a week or two every few months, it would still be rough.

"Your sculptures were getting famous, Aion," Elio said.

"Many people were talking about them at the last party, mainly girls," Georges said. "You are getting popular."

"I want to get popular with ladies that are at least ten years older than me," Aion said. "Anyway, it seems soon it will be time for the birthday party of Henri's fiancee. Don't step on the girls' feet when you start to dance."

"It hasn't been decided yet…" Henri said and then sighed.

Aion could only imagine a very spoiled princess to make Henri sigh. He was always trying to copy Lexus, so he let few things bother him that much. In any case, that probably will be the last party that Henri and Philip will attend in a while, so one could feel their tension. The tension dispersed when Lexus finally returned.
