Chapter 119 Combination

While Aion was recovering his mana, he had an idea. It would be troublesome to use the sphere of ice. He could only use it two times with his mana. However, if Aion focuses on control and uses his scarlet tigers, he might pull off something even more insane that will make the enemies run away there as well.

"It would be better to use this kind of thing when the archer and the swordsman can be targeted, but I guess we don't have the leisure to do that," Aion thought, and then he called one of the scarlet tigers to his side.

While standing on the top of the wall, Aion pointed his hands toward the enemy army. They finally took notice of him and then prepared to fire arrows at him. However, the wind suddenly got stronger in front of him and then took the shape of a small tornado. The arrows were repelled, but that wasn't over yet…

The tornado began to pull the enemies toward it, and they tried to move away, but then the scarlet tiger used a Flamethrower on it. Making its power and speed increase. The enemies that were busy fighting the death knights tried to run away, but Aion didn't let them. The wounded ones got caught pretty early, but the others began to scatter.

Still, Aion learned his lesson from the previous fight, and before they could spread too much, Aion made the fire tornado explode. A powerful curtain of fire moved in all directions and engulfed hundreds of enemies. Only a few of them were killed, but those who were hit could barely move, and the death knights approached to finish them off.

The attack had been as effective as planned. The remaining battalions began to move away… Aion used that chance to check and heal the wounds of the scarlet wolves. They didn't suffer much, fortunately, but Aion didn't want to let his true comrades suffer even a bit. If only he had better options... he had to wait until his powers were more developed.

"I might as well check their loot…" Aion thought. "I guess I also should use my free time and study the magic items as well."

Most of the enemies only had ordinary weapons, and also most of them had their weapons and armor damaged by the fire tornado and the attacks of the death knights. Aion couldn't do much else to those aside from processing. He found a few magic items that had runes on them, but those stopped working the moment they suffered too much damage. So, Aion only got the most basic materials from them.

"I guess the runes become a part of the items more than gems or similar materials can… so when the weapon is destroyed like that, they also suffer the same fate…" Aion thought. "Regardless, I should check things with mom and then ask her a few questions about this.

Aion thought that the soldiers of the Rosberg kingdom would give him more problems, even with his build focused on magic power. Although he didn't slack training and using the system to improve his attacks, he still felt that it would take a while for him to be able to repel so many of them at the same time. They were known for their strength and resilience, after all.

In any case, after a while, Aion returned home and asked her about the news. Aside from the fact that the lord of the other state refused to cooperate in order to let his port be destroyed and profit from it, nothing much else happened.

"So, mom, what do you know about runes?" Aion asked.

"You took interest in something weird again… at quite the weird time," Artemisia said. "I have read that in the past, it was a common way of using magic and that some magic items were made using them… my people studied those for many years to learn about their secrets since it seemed like a pretty convenient way to create magic relics, but I never heard of anyone making much progress on that field."

Aion knew that his mother wouldn't lie to him, so the magic items that he found were that old, or people were producing them while keeping the knowledge hidden. Still, the people selling those you would stand out, so Aion wondered why the information didn't spread…

In any case, Aion learned that it was something like a magic technology that had been lost over the years. People don't suddenly forget those things… something happened in the past, and their users were forced to forget. Like a disaster happened to their civilization, or another war broke out and wiped them all out... It seemed that such type of thing was common in that world since Aion's mother's people were almost hunted down to extinction.

It was truly a pity that something like that happened, but it wasn't unheard of for Aion. Back in the middle ages and even before that, many societies had learned things over the years, and the knowledge had been lost due to wars and because other people couldn't understand it.

"Earth rune, the rune of sharpness, the rune of endurance, Fire rune… my collection isn't that rich yet, but I should keep collecting them for the time I have the chance to study them properly," Aion thought.

"Aion, don't drop your guard," Artemisia said. "The enemies aren't the type to use night raids, but things are too irregular this time. It is impossible to tell how they will act when they have such an upper hand when it comes to numbers."

"It is all right, mom," Aion said. "I still have some surprises in store for them."

Aion sure looked confident, and while that worried his mother a bit, she knew that he wouldn't do anything without some serious consideration. Regardless, they weren't the ones who were going to use the night to attack. Aion will.
