Chapter 120 Gift

As soon as night fell, Aion began to move. Until now, the archer and the swordsman didn't show up, so he decided to capitalize on that and make them regret their stupid actions. In any case, while neither of the two armies noticed that he had moved between battlefields, he had to work fast to pull that off.

One of the advantages of the archer class is that it practically gives Aion unlimited arrows. Not in the way most people would think. When Aion uses the archer class, he gets a bow and a quiver with twenty-one arrows. He can shoot them without using any mana or stamina. While they can be damaged, the arrows will return to their original state and location once Aion uses all of them.

With that in mind, Aion approached the enemies camp without letting anyone notice his presence. He changed his class to Slayer, so probably no one there would notice him. Once he got close enough, he noticed that the soldiers were around some campfires resting and tending their wounds, eating, or polishing their weapons… those that could do that, of course.

Aion noticed some lookouts hidden in bushes and trees. Despite the odds that a right raid seemed like insane for a group much smaller like of the ones on the defending side, they decided to do that much as a countermeasure. Those guys sure were irregular in their way of acting… sometimes they made sense, sometimes they didn't.

Although Aion couldn't see the lookouts perfectly, his high dexterity granted him the ability to see their shadows and the slight movements that they made. While they were there, the fact that the chances of an attack were so small that they couldn't help but relax on their job, even for a bit and that revealed their positions to him.

Aion pointed his bow and arrow at his first target and then fired at the enemy fifty meters away when his aim stopped on him. Aion didn't miss, and nothing happened at first, but only because he aimed at the enemy's heart instead of their head. He didn't know if he was being merciful or cruel by making them agonize for a few seconds… it wasn't like they were going to be buried by their families, so sparing their faces seemed like a waste of time.

Before advancing to the next target, Aion wondered if his actual self contradicted his previous one. Taking lives in the war was only an obvious thing that a soldier should do. He was the commander, but even he could do that… still, considering how he died, it felt a bit that he was negating his last action as Adam…

"No, I can't think like this… it may sound like I am shifting the blame, but I am not the one who started this," Aion thought. "I am not the one who wants to take lives to obtain a dungeon and some territory… although I did that when Caelis came to fight me…"

Aion shook his head… that won't end, he might find justification for his actions, but soon enough, he will find other reasons that will make him think that they were unjustified. It would be endless… in the end, his goal didn't change. He wanted to create a new place in the world for his mother since she had lost her homeland.

After he got rid of his hesitation, Aion began to move around the enemy camp and got rid of the lookouts. Before the smell of blood could take over the area, Aion finished them and proceeded to jump to the top of one of the trees that one of the lookouts used. The camp was two hundred meters away, but that distance was nothing with his high dexterity.

Once Aion aimed for the first time, he took a deep breath and then fired the first arrow. Even before it could hit the target, Aion already had another one ready to be shot and with another target in sight.

Before the enemies could notice what had happened, five of their allies had already been taken down. Those who were in the outer layer of the camp had their weapons and shileds ready to be used and raised while trying to find the direction the attacks came from, but only after a while they found that. Still, Aion kept shooting since not all of them were ready to defend themselves.

A group using the phalanx formation was quickly assembled and then headed to the location Aion came from. In the darkness of the night, it was hard to tell if that was indeed the case. The arrows began to fall from the sky, but they kept moving. Eventually, they found the tree in which they thought Aion was… However, they found nothing and yet, the arrows were still falling over them. In that brief moment of hesitation, other soldiers in the camp were targeted, and they realized that the enemy was on the move.

Aion kept attacking like that until the enemies realized that only a single battalion couldn't take him… they hurried to make several groups using the same phalanx formation to look for him. They hurried because more of them were dying each second. Their camp only has tents, so Aion could easily find them hiding…

Eventually, three groups used that formation, and several archers used fire arrows to illumiate the area around and to look for the enemy. However, Aion stopped shooting, and they assumed that the enemy had fled… that wasn't completely true. Aion was planning to leave… but before that, he used the last arrow on his quiver and then began to charge Power Shot… when all of his stamina had been depleted, he fired the arrow toward one of the formations… Upon impact, the arrow caused a powerful shockwave that killed several of the enemies and completely destroyed their formation… that was the last gift he had for that group.
