Chapter 151 Rough Taming

The flying monsters that lived in that mountainous area seemed like a mix of eagles and crows. Their bodies were stripped in the colors white, yellow, and back. They were three meters tall and five meters long when their wings were opened. They had quite the vicious look in their eyes… but the real thing that made them stand out was when they opened their mouths and lightning bolts were fired from them.

Aion was fast enough to fly to the sides when they opened their mouths and dodged the spells, and since lightning magic consumed so much mana, the monsters didn't use it often. Aion kept an eye on the enemies in the sky and another on the area below. He looked for any signs of roads and civilization, but he found nothing… as expected, it wouldn't be easy.

In the end, Aion flew toward the enemies, and they used a lightning bolt again. Since the spells were targetting him at the same time, Aion blocked them by creating an ice wall. The impact raised a cloud of steam, and Aion used that chance to fire Ice Arrows at the heads of the monsters. They didn't have time to react…

"They are pretty strong to give that much experience, but their defensive power isn't that high it seems…" Aion thought.

Aion began to fly further east, but then another pack of monsters got on his way. After clicking his tongue, Aion made up his choice. It was a bit risky, but he could pull it off… when the enemies attacked, he used the same strategy as before, but instead of killing all the monsters behind the steam cloud. He left one alone and flew toward it…

The creature opened its mouth, but then Aion punched it before it could succeed and then landed on the back of the monster.

"Be obedient and follow my orders. Otherwise, this is going to hurt…" Aion said.

Aion didn't have much mana, so he could only retort to that in order not to waste further time. The monster struggled, but then Aion hit its head with his shield until the beast got dizzy. The beast began to flap its wings after falling for a while, and by using his legs, Aion forced the head of the monster to turn to a side, and the monster followed that direction.

The monster struggled for a while, but eventually, it noticed that Aion wouldn't be able to do anything against Aion. Their magic could only be fired from their mouths… Still, more monsters noticed Aion's presence and began to fly above to attack him.

When the lightning bolts fell, Aion blocked them with his shield, and while he suffered some damage, it wasn't as much as a direct hit. Aion forced the monster he was riding to ignore all that, but he wondered if that was a good idea… he might as well ignore them now and eventually see hundreds of them following him later.

"I can't recover mana like this…" Aion thought.

While looking around for his destination, Aion found some clouds below, and while it was dangerous to hide in them while being attacked by lightning attacks. Still, Aion made the monster fly in that direction and then turned to the side once he disappeared in the cloud…

Many bolts rained down on that cloud, but then the monster saw Aion moving to another cloud… the monsters tried to approach and wait for him to show, but Aion never did it. He kept going downward until he created some distance from the enemies, and it got hard for the enemies to see him so down below.

After a couple of minutes, Aion found another pack and no clouds to use to lose them. Still, he had recovered a bit of mana and then created a thick layer of ice on his shield. When the next spells were fired toward him, the shield blocked them completely, and Aion even controlled it to spin toward the monsters. Some of them dodged it, while others got hit in the neck and their necks broke.

"This is a good way to save mana…" Aion thought and then saw some cracks on the ice. "Not perfect, I guess."

When he failed to kill them with the frozen shield, Aion managed to stop or delay them from chasing him. Still, controlling the ice and thus the shield over time was difficult since he was also trying to meditate while flying. He couldn't do so many things at once…

Still, it seemed that Aion's hard work was finally paying off. He didn't find a temple nearby, but he found traces of an old road that led to the top of one of the many mountains in the area. Aion followed the direction the road could take him, and he found that it ended on a group of fallen boulders… it seemed like they were blocking something, the entrance of a temple, maybe.

"I thought the temple would be in the open, but I guess with this many monsters around, they would have a hard time doing anything," Aion thought.

Aion didn't know if that was an old and abandoned temple, but there was a chance that the assholes that captured his mother sealed the entrance that way, and Aion decided to check it. Still, when Aion approached it, he saw a lot of moss on the ground and on the lower part of the boulders. Those had been there for a while.

"Shit… " Aion said while looking around. "That is…"

Aion didn't notice that from far away, but he found some dark clouds in the distance, and further east, he could a few flashes of lightning bolts now and then… if he had to guess, some shady magic ritual was being performed there…
