CH 38.1

Chapter 38:  Not a good person (1)

Cheng Rui could feel her uneasiness. Perhaps because she was in a new environment and there was no familiar person around her, she was obviously full of fear.

This saddened him a bit. She was scared despite being by his side, either because her brother was not beside her or because she was afraid he would impulsively lose control.

But unfortunately, he had a taciturn personality; he did not know how to say any comforting words and they stood face to face in awkward silence.

Bai Qingqing held her cup of water and stood quietly for a while. Seeing that the man in front of her had nothing to say, she lowered her gaze and whispered: “I’m going back to my room.”

She hadn’t moved yet, her arm was still held by a large and warm hand. Bai Qingqing tensed for a second, quickly concealing it, but long enough for Cheng Rui to notice.

“Do you need anything?” Her voice trembled a little.

Bai Qingqing raised her delicate face, her eyebrows soft, and she said: “Thank you, Cheng Rui. I am a little worried about them.”

The men of the Thunder Squad were her principal targets and the professor and his wife were the objects of her side missions. They had to come back safe and sooner than later. And if the Yaoyang Base was going to send a rescue team to look for them, they would definitely find them and bring them back.

Cheng Rui could feel her sincere joy and his heart hurt a little more. He didn’t let go of her; her arms were slim and smooth, he could hold one with one hand and was afraid to break her if he used the slightest force.

She was like a porcelain doll.

“Qingqing.” He said.

“Yes?” Bai Qingqing looked at him in confusion.

Cheng Rui pulled her into his arms and in the quiet light of the moon, his tall figure completely enveloped her.

“Did you think about what I said the other day?”

He wasn’t stupid. Her words had been perfunctory, she had never thought about staying with him before and she had been acting defensive. She had said that she wanted to wait for Fu Chen to join them at the base; she was waiting for him to run into his arms and leave with him.

But each base was far away from each other and it would take several days at the fastest to go from one to another. In case of troubles on the way, it would even take half a month. If she left him, it would be difficult for Cheng Rui to see her in the future.

Bai Qingqing had not expected Cheng Rui would pick this moment and her eyes showed a little bit of surprise. She looked at his calm expression and her mood became a little subtle; she had always believed Cheng Rui was the silent knight type, not the forceful admirer.

Perhaps because her acting skills were rather lacking tonight or because she was really confused, Cheng Rui noticed her awkward behavior and eagerly awaited her answer.

Bai Qingqing had not completed Cheng Rui’s seduction and she couldn’t just reject him directly. If he completely gave up on her afterward and another woman appeared in front of him, she would never be able to go home.

Cheng Rui was strong and gave any woman a sense of security. Whether had it been in Wucheng or when they had encountered the last zombie attack, he had always put his life on the line to protect her. He might be one of her targets but Bai Qingqing couldn’t help but feel touched.

Unfortunately, she did not love him. Really, she couldn’t fall in love with anyone. If she did, she wouldn’t be able to seduce the others and her mission would fail and she would die. Or at least she would be stuck forever in this world, she wasn’t really clear on that. (TL note: Ok, I confess, I added this last sentence because I’m not clear on whether she’s just stuck here or would die here if she failed her mission… cause if she would die *plot twist* why wasn’t it said before????)

Cheng Rui was only intrigued by her at present anyway, she had not reached the forever love level she needed and she had to work harder.

“Cheng Rui…” Bai Qingqing started.

Cheng Rui interrupted her suddenly: “Don’t.”

He didn’t want to hear her refusal, he really didn’t. He wanted to respect her but the possessiveness inside of him was only getting stronger and he could barely contain the need to rob her.

Bai Qingqing’s eyes flickered “Are you sure you won’t hear me out?”

Since Cheng Rui did like her a bit and was trying to start a relationship, she should impress him a bit more.

Her voice was delicate and a little spoiled, making Cheng Rui unable to resist her. But his strong body was just too tall for her and it wasn’t easy to have a conversation without straining her neck. She recalled when he had knelt in front of her and said: “Squat down please.”

Cheng Rui’s eyes were deep and he followed her command. Like a tamed giant wolf, he squatted obediently in front of her.
