Chapter 54

“What are you surprised about?”

“Why are you here this early?”

“I came to see you.”

“Are we going on a date?”

I almost said, ‘Aren’t you tired of it?’ but I shouldn’t say it in the situation where I came here for a request. He grinned as if he was surprised when he knew clearly the reason why I came here. It looked like he just wanted to lighten the atmosphere.

“No. Get me some explosives.”

“You think I’m a person who gives it away when you say you need it? How much do you need?”

But he was still going to help me anyway.

“As much as the amount needed for destroying a bridge.”

“…were you joking?”

“I’m not joking.”

Shale dropped the corners of his mouth, made a funny expression, then clicked his tongue.

“Go and look at yourself in the mirror. You’re asking for explosives, saying that you will destroy the bridge with that kind of face. It would be kind of a joke to anyone. Why do you really need it?”

I told Shale the truth about my plan. I was in a situation where I was getting help anyway. Even if I told him, there was no way it would go into Sir Shubart’s ear, so I could speak confidently.

“…I guess you’re really trying to stop it.”

He grumbled bitterly, scratching his chin.

“If Sir Shubart is there, they’re gonna proceed with their plan somehow, so I have to tie my mother’s feet first. After that, I can take care of the rest, so help get some stuff.”

“I can prepare it right away. We use it all the time. Do you want me to do it for you? That’s pretty dangerous.”

“You just have to tell me how to do that. I need those by the evening after tomorrow. Is that okay?”

Shale nodded willingly. Come to think of it, he’s quite capable.

“It’s possible right now. Just tell me the size, and I will prepare someone to take it for you. Depending on the size, the amount may be quite large.”

“Please take care of it.”

I took out the teleportation stone to go back.

“Are you going right away?”

Shale grumbled, “Are you really going without a cup of tea?”. I wanted to hang out with him too, but I wanted to lie in bed now.

“Once everything is settled, let’s have a drink.”

I waved my hands and returned to the mansion.

* * *

After returning to the mansion, I fell asleep and woke up at noon the next day. But that was all. As if the glue had been applied to my pillow, I didn’t fall off while hugging it.

Without Sir Shubart, I didn’t have to be cautious, and it was so comfortable. That was how I felt after realizing that Sir Shubart’s worries and considerations made me uncomfortable after I regained the memories of my previous life.

Before, I thought my mother’s words were the truth of the world, and I thought Sir Shubart was the warmest person in the world. I never dreamed that it would be like this in a few years.

Sometimes I wonder if it would have been better if I hadn’t remembered my past life, so I just need to commit evil deeds and then disappear. But I’m afraid my next life will be more difficult if I don’t get killed because of my karma. Thinking about myself just made me laugh.

Sir Shubart had not been laid back except when he was with my mother, so he would arrive in Savoy in exactly three days. He left yesterday morning, so three days had already passed. If I block the road tomorrow night or around dawn, Sir Shubart and my mother’s feet will be bound at the same time. In addition, if Valery kept his promise with me, it would be a bonus. So wouldn’t it be okay for me to take a day off?

“I told you not to do anything dangerous…”

I mumbled in sleep and closed my eyes again.

The dawn of the next day.

All preparations have been completed.

I sent Ian to my mother, and the security downstairs became tight. Wearing my pajamas, I came to Iskar with the excuse of still sleeping. Shale looked at me and shook his head as I was wearing a cloak that reached up to my calf, but it wasn’t all covered.

“Are you sure you’re going to do this?” He said, worrying, putting someone next to me, and in the end, Shale Iskar himself followed me. He seemed anxious because I didn’t bring Ian.

Contrary to his worries, the amount of stuff that could destroy the bridge was only the size of a cake box. The weight was a little heavy, but it wasn’t to the extent that I couldn’t lift it. The timer was set to start when the hook was removed instead of igniting it, so there was nothing dangerous if you paid a little attention. But Shale wouldn’t let me lift the explosives.

It took less than 10 minutes to bring Shale to the bridge near Savoy using a teleportation stone. Even though I had been to this place a few times, it felt like it was my first time coming here because it was dark.

“Are you sure you’re going to do it?”

“How many times are you going to ask? If you’re not going to do it, go back.”

“No.”

He asked again and picked up a box of explosives.

“Go and take the hook out.”

“Yes.”

Shale left me out of nowhere, then headed for the bridge with explosives.  It was dark at dawn, and the lights that had been prepared were turned off, so when he took about 20 steps away from me, his figure disappeared as if immersed in the darkness.

“…I can’t see it.”

I should check it with my own eyes. I thought about going a little closer, but I gave up right away because I didn’t want him to get hurt because of me.

About five minutes later, Shale’s appearance was revealed again.

“I installed it well…”

BOOM! Kwang!

The moment I was about to ask, there was an explosive sound from behind, a loud crashing sound, and a rumble. Shale glanced behind him and smiled satisfactorily.

“It must have collapsed completely. I put it in the middle.”

“Will it take some time to rebuild?”

“It will take a month to rebuild properly. But it could be restored temporarily in a week.”

Now that the bridge had been blown up, Sir Shubart had to return to the route attached to the cliff and re-allocate his luggage. By the time he got to the capital, the fox hunting would be all over.

“Hu.”

Let’s go back now.

I feel sorry for Sir Shubart, who will have a hard time in the future, but I hope he will understand my feelings, as I want everyone to be safe.

I put on my cloak and squeezed the teleportation stone. The moment I closed my eyes and thought of Iskar, we were able to return safely.

“That’s good.”

“You try it. It’s useful.”

After showing the teleportation stone, I held it in my hand again, then tossed the note from my pocket at Shale along with the map I had marked in advance.

“What is this? Love letters?”

“Noisy. If you go to the marked area, there will be a silver mine. It belongs to Duke Rudbihi. They stop the mining for 10 days on the first full moon of every month, which is now.”

“Why?”

“You can empty everything there. It’s something you couldn’t even find out anyway. The person who stole that place is now the owner of that place.”

Shale’s eyes widened.

“Empty everything?”

“Is the payment cheap enough even though you can build two or three buildings from it?”

His eyes widened again. I kindly told him where to go through. I even wrote it down in detail on the note, so he won’t make any mistakes, and emptied it.

I didn’t expect it would be so useful to look over my mother’s job when I saw her work for her family in the past. My mother said that Duke Rudbihi was none other than a toothless old man and could be removed later, but I had quite a grudge against him.

As if it was not enough to regard me as filth, he even ordered my mother to abandon me a few times or even get rid of me. I didn’t know whether he was worried that my mother would be unable to handle his orders properly because of me or not. Anyway, if only we hadn’t met again and slapped me, I would have listened to my mother obediently.

“How do you know that?”

“You forgot my name, didn’t you?”

“Carbella Rud…”

Shale made a stupid sound as if he had realized it belatedly.

“I’m thankful for it, but aren’t you going to be in danger?”

“I also have something to pay back for the Duke. It’s the price of your help.”

“How much will you give me if I empty it all? About half?”

“No, you take it all.”

“Take it all? What about you?

“I don’t need it. I will leave now.”

I saw Shale shaking his head as I returned to the mansion.

Shatter.

As soon as I arrived at the mansion, the solid teleportation stone shattered powerlessly in my hand like a meringue cookie. I used it only when I went to Iskar, but when I suddenly went back and forth on a road that took about three days, one of the teleportation stones ended its life. It was a pity to see the teleportation stone broken and disappear like a grain of sand without even having time to check it.

“I still have two more.”

It was regrettable that I gave my mother the small teleportation stones.

I wiped my palms, took off my cloak, and threw it roughly in the dressing room. Then as if it had always been, I slipped into the bed in my pajamas.

Savoy is one of the most underdeveloped estates, so there was no proper communication system. News of Sir Shubart’s delay would also arrive late. When I thought so, I wished that the fox hunting would start sooner, which I had hoped not to come before.
