CH extra 2

This extra is the author’s luxury.

It has nothing to do with the main story, so skip it if you would like to.

=======================================================

This book is divided into five chapters and introduces the history of magicians.

Chapter 1: Origins of Magic

A long time ago, when people lived closer to nature than now.

There existed those who could freely manipulate magical power, and gave it the name of magic.

The locals called them “Wizards” in reverence.

At that time, the earth was full of demons, and the local folk relying on wizards, lived in small areas, and were desperate just to survive each day.

During that time, a great magician was born.

His name was (Johannes Von Ramiel).

He etched magic, which till then was taught through the senses, into the soul of humanity, and devised techniques which others could learn.

This was in 279 BJ.

Chapter 2: Wizards vs. Magicians

His methods were so revolutionary, that since they conveyed information so accurately, his magic could be studied further, and made to strengthen generations progressively.

However, Johannes’ techniques had the ability to let everyone know magic, thus ending the privilege of wizards, who were considered a privileged class till then.

His techniques were deemed trickery by them, and it’s users, cursed as magicians, were despised.

Around 10 years later, a visible crack appears between the two sides, and war erupts.

The one famously known as the “First Magician War”.

Legendary wizards such as the “Blue-Magic User”, “Witch of the North”, and “Controller of Twilight”, took part in this war.

However, after a long war of more than 200 years, it was the magicians who won.

Many of the wizards were strong, but the magicians had dozens and hundreds of them and defeated them all.

Gradually the number of wizards were reduced, and the final witch, (Arliticia)’s defeat signaled the end of the First Magician War.

That was the first year of the Johannes calendar.

Chapter 3: Birth of the Demon King

By that time, magic had spread to the local folk, and many schools for magic were born during this period.

After that for about 400 years, while living in peace, magicians steadily defeated the demons which infested the land, and expanded their living areas.

However, nothing lasts forever.

The peace which the magicians enjoyed, collapsed in one day.

By the hands of one being.

Indeed.

It was the Demon King (Zard).

Demon King Zard insisted that “all magic was his own” and went around robbing the magicians of their magic.

His method was to kill magicians, and use magic for collecting souls, to rob the magicians of their magic along with their souls.

Yes, the Demon Lord Zard had a vicious magic called [Soul Collection] which collected the souls of others.

The magicians in a sense of crisis united, and the Demon King Zard was defeated by the hands of Hero (Troy).

However, the fear of the Demon King’s magic instilled distrust in others’ magic by magicians.

The tingling distrust in the air spreads all over the world.

Finally, a war involving the world had begun, the two sides being the magician empire Berius, which tried to manage all magic under itself, and the magician kingdom Quatla, which respected the independence of magicians.

In the year 579 Johannes Era, the Second Magician War began.

Chapter 4: Invocation of Great Magic

The flames of war spread in no time.

The battle between the magicians seeking freedom and the magicians seeking to rule seemed to continue forever.

But something suddenly put an end to this war.

It was the Great Sage Dryer who managed to do so.

Dryer was a magician who initially escaped from the war and continued to study magic by himself.

In that time, he managed to take a peak at the “source” which was a faraway dream since the time when wizards ruled the earth.

It seems that the knowledge of all magic was written there.

Dryer did not monopolize that knowledge, but instead thought of a way to share it with the world.

What he came up with, was the creation of great magic which connected to the “source”.

The details of great magic are not known now.

However, the Second Magician War ended because all things became able to view all the knowledge of magic and lost their reason to fight (other sources claim that everyone was afraid of the great sage Dryer, who was able to connect to the “source” and even use great magic).

Then, in year 756, Johannes era, the unified magician country Dryer was born celebrating the feat of the great sage Dryer and in the hope of permanent peace. Under that country, the magicians regained prosperity.

Chapter 5: Outbreak of the Third Great Magician War

The unified magic country, Dryer, had become extremely prosperous.

The demons had been wiped from earth, and the living area of the human race had become wider than ever before.

However, there is no such thing as eternal prosperity.

Their ruin came slowly.

At first, the magic that was normally used until then, suddenly became unusable one day.

Following that were mass deaths of livestock and spread of epidemics.

Various evils attacked Dryas.

After a while, the cause was revealed.

It was the lack of magical power in the atmosphere.

The magical power used by humans had exceeded the magical power produced by nature.

Magical power is released not only from humans and animals, but also from trees and the earth.

Since magic is activated by using one’s own magic power and the magic power around them, the more the human race used magic, the more natural magic power is lost.

The human race which noticed this, stopped using unnecessary magic and devised magic that uses magic power more efficiently.

In addition to that, the government of Dryer had taken every possible measure, such as the introduction of a magic license system, the collection of old magic tools, and the hunting of heretical magicians by a magician unit.

However, those were only temporary stopgaps against the ever-decreasing magical power.

It didn’t take long for people to begin fighting for magical power.

The trigger was the revolutionist (Yuitionus) declaring war on the Dryer government.

Yuitionus uses many forbidden magics with his allies and succeeded in repelling the dryas magician unit. (Yuitionus was a witch cultist who wanted to revive wizardry and bring chaos to the world, there is even a testimony that wizard magic was used at this time.)

This book is written to preserve the disappearing magician history for posterity.

Which is why, I refrained from political opinions as much as possible and spelt out only the facts.

When this great war ends and a peaceful world arrives, I would be happy if this book is read by many.

This time, I strongly hope that lasting peace will come.

Author’s note:

These kinds of unneeded extras are the author’s hobby.

The mentioned characters will appear later in the series as heritage. Since characters that appear from now won’t know this history (though Lain would somehow), I’d like to write it in a way where it won’t matter if you’ve read this extra or not.

TLN: Next chapter on Monday.
