Chapter 23: To Prioritize Wealth Over Life

As night fell, the dim moonlight spread across the earth, illuminating everything brightly yet with a layer of gloomy ghostly atmosphere. Spring has not yet arrived, and the withered grass of winter, illuminated by the cold moonlight, cast countless mysterious shadows which inter, under the cold moonlight, cast countless eerie shadows, which looked like the exposed fangs of a barren land from afar.

The earth has already fallen asleep. As soon as night falls, the wind in Q city always blows fiercely. Apart from the occasional barking of a dog coming from a nearby village, the lonely roads are silent and desolate. On a dark and windy night like this, Zhou Mushi walked alone on a gloomy path on a dark and windy night.

It is said that when the night is dark and the wind is high, murderers sharpen their knives at night. Zhou Mushi is also bold and fearless, he relies on being a boy and pays no attention to it.

He was absent-mindedly filtering through the words spoken by the boy from the orphanage in broad daylight, feeling a bitter and indescribable sourness in his heart.

The living environments of different people are not the same, and he has never had to worry about food and clothing since childhood. Naturally, he doesn’t have to live like them, who are lacking in food and clothing. They are happy to receive new and old clothes given by anyone, and are delighted with whatever food and drink they gets.

Perhaps for those who have managed to survive through difficult times, it is not entirely wrong for them to place greater value on money.

As Zhou Mushi thought this, he felt a wave of regret in his heart. Perhaps he should not have hidden his own identity from Jin Yang. Maybe he could have advised him properly. Perhaps he was too impulsive…

“Don’t move!”

When a cold blade was pressed against his neck, Zhou Mushi almost didn’t react in time.

A man’s vicious voice came from behind him. Before he could even turn his head, Zhou Mushi smelled the scent of blood. When the pain of his skin being cut open reached his brain, every pore on his body stood on end.

“Hand over all the valuable things on you!” the man behind him threatened.

If someone still doesn’t know what has happened at this point, they would be considered a fool.

Zhou Mushi was not someone who placed great importance on material possessions, so he immediately handed over his wallet and all the money in his hand without any resistance.

“It’s all yours.” He swallowed his saliva, his voice trembling.

He didn’t know what kind of person the other party was, but he guessed that the person was probably after his money. As long as he was honest and handed over his belongings, he might be able to get out of this situation safely.

However, in reality, the robber behind him had never done anything like this before and lacked experience. He trembled as he stuffed Zhou Mushi’s wallet and phone into his own pocket. The knife he held against Zhou Mushi’s neck trembled as he hesitated, worried about what might happen if this person chased after him or called the police.

The man held the knife and a layer of cold sweat appeared on his forehead on a cold winter day. Simply put, either do it or don’t do it!

Just as Zhou Mushi felt the knife leave his neck, before he had a chance to catch his breath, a sudden pain struck his back, followed by the sound of quickly running footsteps.

He felt a cold sensation, as the wind had blown into his ripped-down feather jacket. Awkwardly reaching out to touch, illuminated by moonlight, he found before him a piece of red, viscous liquid, still warm to the touch. This was his last awareness before fainting.

When he opened his eyes again, he was met with a piercing white light and the strong smell of disinfectant that rushed into his nose. Immediately following was the anxious face of Zhou Hang.

“Mushi! Mushi! Are you awake?”

Zhou Mushi blinked with effort, feeling that the face in front of him had turned into that of a young nurse again, then there was an IV drip, and then everything turned white…
