CH 77

The sound of the communicator suddenly rang, annoying Shen Siwei and causing him to frown.

He grabbed the pillow on the side of his neck and threw it towards the source of the noise behind him. The pillow instantly burst open, filling the air with floating feathers and accompanied by Klet’s hoarse voice, “Honey, you’re so fierce.”

“You’re so noisy,” Shen Siwei closed his eyes, his eyebrows furrowing impatiently, and the tips of his hair turned a dark red, indicating his displeasure.

This was already the fifth call Klet had received that morning.

Having been tossing and turning all night without sleep, Shen Siwei was already irritated. Being continuously awakened early in the morning was testing his restraint not to throw Klet out of the window of the Creston Grand Hotel.

“It’s Leizhe,” Klet wrapped his arms around Shen Siwei’s waist, pulling him into his embrace and letting him rest against his chest. “It should be something important.”

“It better be,” Shen Siwei replied lazily, his voice lacking the usual enthusiasm

Captain, are you sick?” Leizhe asked. “What about your wedding today—”

“No,” Shen Siwei interrupted Leizhe. “I got bitten by a dog.”

“Who are you calling a dog?” Klet pinched Shen Siwei’s waist.

“You,” Shen Siwei recalled the events of last night, and the color of his hair darkened even more. “You’re not just a dog, you’re a bear.”

“Cough, cough,” Leizhe cleared his throat, trying to regain attention. “Captain, are you feeling well?”

“Yeah, I’m fine.”

When repairing Shen Siwei’s cardiovascular function, Dr. Chen also removed the chip from his brain. It was then that he learned how Shen Siwei managed to evade the control of the chip and hoped that Malken would join his laboratory.

Naturally, Malken wouldn’t agree, and his mentor, old Ghost, would never approve either. Dr. Chen sadly recorded his last video log entry, ending the modification project.

“By the way,” Shen Siwei raised his chin, propping himself up on Klet’s chest, and asked, “Where’s Malken? I haven’t seen much of him lately.”

Usually, it was Malken who handled their communication. But for some reason, it was always Leizhe calling recently.

“He has some issues with Amor,” Leizhe said with a headache in his tone. “He thinks I shouldn’t get too close to Amor. But Amor’s suggestions have been very useful, isn’t that just discrimination?”

Amor lived in the Creston Grand Hotel. Although it had been bombed five years ago, the bathhouse proprietor took over recently and reopened it for business.

Klet specifically made arrangements, and no refugees dared to trouble Amor. His condition was also noticeably different from before, as he seemed to have focused all his thoughts on his career.

“What about Malken?” Klet asked.

“He’s on the third floor,” Leizhe sighed. “He went to Dr. Chen’s laboratory.”

Shen Siwei: “…”

“Will he come tonight?” Klet asked again.

“He must,” Leizhe’s tone changed. “He wouldn’t dare to miss your wedding tonight.”

Klet had chosen many places for their wedding, such as the resting spot on the ice field, the square in the underground city, or the secluded island in the sea. But in the end, they decided on Z City in the western district.

Shen Siwei didn’t mind wherever they held the wedding, but Klet wanted all his subordinates to attend, so he had to choose a crowded location.

As for the specific venue, it was the music plaza where the two had first met five years ago.

The arena of the black market boxing match had been dismantled, restoring its original appearance. The red carpet spread from the main road to the center of the plaza, and the flower baskets on both sides were simple but elegant, decorating the scene of this understated wedding. Klet exaggeratedly wanted to fill the entire Z City with flower baskets, but Shen Siwei stopped his idea.

The wedding of the two already attracted attention from the Tree of Life, and Shen Siwei didn’t want to make it too high-profile.

Evening arrived quickly, and Shen Siwei and Klet changed into white wedding attires. The clothes were custom-made, tailored to fit their measurements. Shen Siwei looked elegant in his suit, while the suit next to him made Klet look suave.

When the two arrived at the music plaza in the wedding car, apart from the area covered by the red carpet, the plaza was filled with a sea of people. There were also unmanned drones sent by the media in the sky.

“One of the groom of this wedding is Klet, the late General Miller’s youngest son. It is reported that he is currently the strongest evolved human. As for the other groom, it is Shen Siwei, the son of the former chief engineer. It is reported that his body has undergone modifications and can survive unharmed even when falling from high altitudes into the deep sea…”

Shen Siwei closed the news page and looked helplessly at Klet. “Didn’t we agree not to let the media in?”

“I didn’t let them in,” Klet innocently shrugged. “Drones don’t count.”

Shen Siwei knew that Klet wanted the whole world to know about their wedding. Every day, there were numerous phone calls arranging wedding matters, and  he naturally had nothing more to say.

“Just don’t do anything fancy during the ceremony,” he said.

“Can we do a horizontal embrace kiss?”

“No!”

As the two stepped down from the wedding car, AR confetti cannons in the sky simultaneously exploded, showering colorful paper and holographic projections of a rose garden spreading beneath their feet, which surprised Shen Siwei.

He had repeatedly emphasized the need for low-key, but he didn’t expect Klet to still arrange those flashy things.

The refugees standing on both sides of the road erupted into thunderous cheers. This grand scene was even more exaggerated than when Shen Siwei, as a negotiator, had come to the lower levels.

At that point, Shen Siwei gradually accepted that reality. He was about to experience the most high-profile wedding in the history of the Tree of Life.

The officiant of the wedding was Avis, who had good eloquence and took the initiative to take on the role. Leizhe, Malken, knock, and others stood in the front row, each dressed in formal attire, a sight Shen Siwei had never seen before.

“Klet,” during the ceremony’s vow segment, Avis looked at the two with a serious expression. “Do you vow to become partners with the man in front of you, remaining faithful to him until the end of your life, no matter what happens?”

Klet looked at Shen Siwei, as if his eyes could contain no one else despite the noisy environment. “I do.”

Avis then asked the same question to Shen Siwei.

However, just as Shen Siwei was about to answer, a piercing alarm suddenly sounded in the air. A refugee watching the wedding from the rooftop shouted, “It’s the Desert Wolf Pack!”

The crowd on the plaza instantly turned chaotic, with people taking out weapons and others scattering in all directions. The festive atmosphere of the wedding was disrupted by the arrival of the Desert Wolf Pack.

Shen Siwei followed the direction where the crowd dispersed and saw a dozen fierce Desert Wolves walking along the main road. The refugees who had been standing on the sides of the road had all hidden inside buildings; no one dared to approach.

He sighed helplessly, “They came at just the right time.”

Just as he said that, Klet had already undone his tie, taken off his suit jacket, and charged into the midst of the Desert Wolf Pack.

Shen Siwei had never seen Klet so furious before. It seemed like every punch was thrown with full force. Several Desert Wolves were beaten to the point where they dared not approach, but with the large number of wolves, Klet seemed overwhelmed.

“Hold this for me,” Shen Siwei calmly took off his jacket and tossed it to Avis, then joined the fight.

The two white figures in the midst of the wolf pack cooperated seamlessly. The surrounding refugees were stunned, and no one realized that they could go forward and help.

No, they didn’t need help. One, two, three… the Desert Wolves were beaten bloody by the two, and at one point, they even tore one of the wolves apart, splitting it in half.

The alpha wolf seemed to realize that the situation was not in its favor and let out a howl, signaling the other Desert Wolves to retreat. But Klet hadn’t had enough yet. He jumped onto the pedestrian bridge, pulled out the railing that he and Shen Siwei had embedded in the ground before, and mercilessly beat the alpha wolf’s head with it.

“You weren’t invited to our wedding!”

With its wounded body, the alpha wolf led the wolf pack and slinked away from the city. Klet irritably tossed the railing aside and said to Shen Siwei, “You still haven’t answered.”

Looking at the blood stains on both of them, Shen Siwei couldn’t help but smile, “I do.”

Indeed, a formal wedding didn’t suit the two of them. Their wedding seemed to only require the presence of the two of them.

Klet embraced Shen Siwei’s waist, as if wanting to vent the annoyance of having their mood disrupted by the Desert Wolves. He passionately kissed Shen Siwei.

The surrounding refugees cheered again, mixed with the voices of media commentators explaining the incident. But for Shen Siwei, those things no longer mattered. He slightly leaned back, seductively bit on Klet’s lower lip, and asked in a low voice, “Should we change the venue?”

“Sure,” Klet’s deep voice sounded, “I haven’t told you yet, but the final event of the wedding is three days without leaving the bed.”

On the other side,

Leizhe and Malken heard the commotion outside and hurriedly ran out of the restroom in the bar. They caught a passerby and asked, “What’s happening? Where are the people?”

“The Desert Wolf Pack broke in, and the wedding is already over!” The person waved his hand, glanced at the two, and kindly reminded, “Your fly is open.”

“Ahem.” Leizhe cleared his throat, “Thank you.”

“On the first day of marriage, spent it in bed, nothing special.”

“On the 16th day of marriage, I went with him to the artificial embryo center to extract genetic information. After that, we plan to return to the little cabin in the ice field and retrace the path we once walked.”

“On the 37th day of marriage, Avis and knock established a welfare elementary school. The two of them are going to be teachers, which is unimaginable.”

“On the 88th day of marriage, he cooked stewed beef for me. It’s a bit hard to swallow. How should I tell him?”

“On the 156th day of marriage, Old Ghost passed away. She was indeed old. Malken was very sad, and he stayed by Old Ghost’s side for many years.”

“On the 262nd day of marriage, the city center of the Southern Ruins was cleared, and the first attraction outside the Tree of Life was established. We went on the Ferris wheel together, and at the highest point, I kissed him. They say that way we’ll be together forever.”

“On the 317th day of marriage, we attended Leizhe and Malken’s wedding. They arranged a carriage, which was cool and annoying.”

“On the 444th day of marriage, Dr. Chen discovered a material that accelerates the decay cycle of radioactive elements. Perhaps within ten years, we will be able to leave the Tree of Life and return to our previous living environment.”

“On the 561st day of marriage, we came to the top level. They say tonight there will be the largest meteor shower. I hope it won’t disappoint us.”

“On the 730th day of marriage, today…”

Suddenly, the video footage showed Shen Siwei’s figure. He glanced at the camera and then hugged Klet’s neck from behind. “Are you still recording?”

Whether inspired by Dr. Chen or not, Klet had been recording their lives every day since they got married. Although most of it was trivial matters, he didn’t miss a single day.

“Of course,” Klet turned his head slightly to look at Shen Siwei, then continued speaking to the camera, “On the 730th day of marriage, today is our two-year wedding anniversary, and our plan is to go diving.”

Usually, the two of them rarely stayed in the Tree of Life. Most of their time was spent wandering outside, going to places where no one had been before.

After turning off the camera, Klet turned around and flipped Shen Siwei underneath him. “Did you sleep well last night?”

The two of them were currently inside a tent, and the early morning sunlight shone through the curtain, illuminating the sound of waves crashing outside the tent.

“Mm,” Shen Siwei lazily refrained from complaining about Klet’s wild behaviors from the night before, “Happy anniversary.”

Klet gently pecked the corner of Shen Siwei’s lips, “Happy anniversary.”

Time flew by quickly, and their wedding seemed like it was just yesterday. The present Shen Siwei was living a completely different life from before and experienced a sense of contentment and comfort he had never felt before.

“Are we having seafood today?” he asked.

“It depends on what we catch later,” Klet put away the camera and added, “We’ll continue recording when we get back tonight. Today’s content must be more enriching.”

“Don’t you find it exhausting?” Shen Siwei lay on his side, propping his head up with his hand.

He had always thought Klet was an impatient person, and initially, he thought he wouldn’t record for long before giving up. However, he didn’t expect Klet to persist for two whole years.

“Why would it be exhausting?” Klet said, “I still have to record our ten-thousandth day and our hundred-thousandth day of marriage.”

Unexplainably, Shen Siwei suddenly believed that Klet would definitely accomplish that. When it came to their relationship, it always felt so sincere.

“Come here,” Shen Siwei lifted his arm and hooked it around Klet’s neck, “No matter how long you record, I’ll be with you.”

Klet took the opportunity to kiss Shen Siwei, “That means forever, with no expiration date.”
