C15: Academy Competition (1)

Academy competition?

Seo-joon stopped exercising.

“I’ve heard of it.”

And one memory that comes to mind when he thinks for a moment. However, Seo-joon immediately continued.

“But I don’t know the details.”

At Seo-joon’s answer, Seo-yoon nodded slowly.

“Academy competition is literally a competition between Hunter Academies.”

Seo Yoon’s explanation was quite long but the content was roughly this.

The Academy competition was a competition in which numerous Hunter academies competed. The purpose was to distinguish none other than the superiority and inferiority between the academies. In a word, it was a competition to evaluate the level of the Hunter Academies.

There were quite a variety of competitions to evaluate the academy, among which Seo-yoon’s academy was treated as a fourth division academy among those competing.

In fact, it was only the fourth division, but it was safe to say that it was a non-league competition, a competition with no restrictions or conditions to participate in.

Nevertheless, the reason for holding and participating in such competitions was that if the performance was good in such competitions, they would be eligible to participate in the third division tournament.

If there’s a third division then there must be a second and a first division. By stepping up one by one like that, the academy’s position is raised and the students are rewarded.

Above all, the government also evaluates the level of the academy through competitions such as the Academy competition and these evaluations are gathered and receive public recognition from the government.

Only then will the academy have the authority to issue temporary certificates to its students.

There is a huge difference in whether temporary certificates can be issued from the standpoint of students.

For one reason or another, Hunter Academy concentrates on competition.

“I see.”

When Seo-yoon’s explanation was over, Seo-joon nodded slowly.

“But why are you suddenly explaining this to me?”

“Well…”

Seo-yoon hesitated greatly and did not speak easily.

A little time has passed, and Seo-yoon soon shouted as if she had made a big decision.

“Seo-joon I was wondering if you could participate in the Academy competition under the name of our school.”

But at the end, her voice almost crawled.

“Me?”

“Yes…”

Seo-joon was lost in thought for a moment when he saw Seo-yoon’s anxious expression.

Academy competition…

The Academy competition was practically a war as the academies will struggle to defend their rank and to advance to a higher division while other academies will be trying to take them down.

Therefore, the participating students are the best and receive all kinds of support from the academy. Even if it was a competition in the fourth division, it could not be ignored.

‘Competition with other students…’

Seo-joon was lost in thought once again as last night and the worries he thought before going to bed passed through his head.

‘Wouldn’t you be able to speed up the progress of the lecture?’

It is much more efficient to increase the progress rate by doing raids than simply listening to the lecture. However, it was confirmed yesterday that the efficiency is felt as the activity was repeated.

So Seo-joon kept thinking about a new method other than raids.

For Seo-joon, Seo-yoon’s proposal was attractive enough. If he thought about it, it was just an experience.

Seo-joon smiled inwardly.

Above all, the academy competition is not different from the professional hunter test.

In the first place, the purpose of establishing the academy was to pass the professional hunter test, so it was natural in a way.

In any way, Seo-joon had nothing to lose so he said with a smile on his face.

“All right, I’ll do it.”

“Really?”

Seo-yoon shouted with a smile on her face.

‘Why is she so glad?’

Seo-joon tilted his head once and said,

“Isn’t it natural? That was our deal in the first place.”

Since Seo-yoon does not spare any support for Seo-joon to grow he will naturally compete under the name of Dream Academy in all external activities related to the academy.

This was the deal that Seo-joon and Seo-yoon mutually agreed to.

“Yes, it was.”

Seo-yoon replied, scratching her cheek as if she had forgotten the fact.

‘Sometimes I wonder if she’s the granddaughter of the Sword Saint.’

Seo-joon burst into laughter at Seo-yoon’s appearance.

‘Anyway, I need to get ready.’

Although he did not know the exact contents of the competition, Seo-joon roughly knew that the competition was a tournament-style duel between the students and dungeon raids. The score was calculated by compiling the results of all the events.

However, Seo-joon’s had experience in fighting monsters against only kobolds. Almost naturally, he had no experience fighting people, that is, other students.

‘I want to do it properly now…’

One person who caught Seo-joon’s eye.

“Excuse me, Seo-yoon.”

“What?”

“If you don’t have anything to do, can I ask you to do it?”

Seo-yoon tilted her head once at Seo-joon’s sudden remark. And soon, he pointed his index finger to his chest and asked back.

“With me?”

“Then who else is there in Dream Academy besides you and me?”

Seo-yoon looked around for a while and opened her mouth again.

“But why all of a sudden?”

“To prepare for the competition.”

“But there’s a huge difference in level.”

Nevertheless, Seo-yoon’s reaction was not clear so Seo-joon grinned and provoked her.

“No way, are you scared?”

Seo-yoon held up a wooden sword for the duel.

‘What am I doing?’

To be honest, Seo-yoon was dumbfounded. No, it was more than that.

Seo-yoon was a B-class professional hunter. Compared to her grandfather, her position was infinitely, really infinitely insufficient, but she was strong.

In general terms, class B hunters were never weak hunters and Seo-yoon is a B-class hunter who studied under the Sword Saint.

“I was wondering how strong you were…”

A student was never in a position to evaluate a professional hunter before.

Seo-yoon looked at Seo-joon, who was excited like a child just before receiving a Christmas present.

“By the way, how long are you going to use that iron bar?”

“Haha, I got used to it.”

Seo-joon was still using a steel bar that looked like it belonged in a construction site.

Seo-yoon told him to choose anything from the academy, but Seo-joon refused. He said he found a good spear and would wait until he buys it.

In fact, she discovered that Seo-joon was learning the spear only after hearing that.

“You know I’m a B-class professional hunter, right?”

“Of course. So please be gentle.”

Seo-yoon was annoyed for some reason by Seo-joon’s sly smile.

“I’ll let you attack first.”

“Then I won’t say no.”

Seo-joon rushed toward Seo-yoon.

‘As expected…’

Seo-yoon nodded quietly at Seo-joon.

His movement was fast but his steps were clumsy. The eye contact was so obvious that it seemed to tell her where he would attack.

A student was still a student.

Seo-yoon used the mana technique she learned from Sword Saint and coated her wooden sword with it.

She didn’t know with what confidence he made such a provocation, but Seo-yoon was going to end the fight with this one attack.

“Wow! This is so hard…”

Seo-joon held up the iron bar to prevent Seo-yoon’s attack.

“How…?”

Seo-yoon was greatly embarrassed because she thought Seo-joon would be defeated with a single attack.

“Ugh!!”

Of course, it was hard for Seo-joon to block her attack.

Originally, that iron bar should have bounced out of his hand and the sword should have been pushed into Seo-joon’s neck, then she would’ve told him that he still has a long way to go and to try harder.

“Then… I do it with all my heart!”

Suddenly, the iron bar bent in a strange direction and rushed toward Seo-yoon.

At the sudden change in momentum Seo-yoon hurriedly retrieved her sword and blocked Seo-joon’s attack.

“What the…”

‘It’s so different from before?’

The battle between Seo-yoon and Seo-joon was fierce and sparks flew even though a wooden sword clashed with a metal rod.

On the other hand, Seo-joon was in a trance right now.

[If the other person is an intelligent being, the concept should be different. If you can think, the other person can think the same thing, especially if it’s an opponent stronger than you.]

The Transcension Academy lectures were playing in Seo-joon’s head.

[Stop thinking like an idiot that your opponent will take your attack head on.]

“It’s quite acceptable, but not yet…!”

[Mix the attacks. How do you mix them? You trash! Make an obvious attack! Obvious attacks follow obvious defenses. You are forcing your opponent to adopt the posture and defense you want!]

“Do you think this obvious attack will work on me?”

[Slowly drive your opponent in a position where it can’t block your real attack. Until your obvious attack becomes an unstoppable attack!]

[Bet everything on your next blow!]

“Oh…!”

A loophole appeared for a moment.

“Now!”

Seo-joon poured all his energy into the iron bar he grabbed.

The sound of cracking and tearing muscles rang from all over his body but Seo-joon, biting his teeth, threw the iron bar at Seo-yoon.

‘Danger!’

In an instant, an alarm bell rang in Seo-yoon’s head and she unknowingly parried Seo-joon’s attack with all her might.

‘What was that just now… ?’

Seo-yoon was embarrassed.

“Cough!”

Seo-joon collapsed, coughing up blood. Only then did Seo-yoon suddenly come to Seo-joon’s side.

“Are you okay? Without realizing it…”

“It’s all right.”

Fortunately, Seo-joon got up all right after tapping his body to see if he was seriously injured.

As Seo-yoon was looking at Seo-joon anxiously, Seo-joon spoke.

“More than that… I lost in the end. Ha-ha.”

“In the end?”

Seo-yoon was dumbfounded for a moment.

Does that mean he could have won? It was a competition between a B-class professional hunter and a student.

“Not yet.”

Seo-yoon was confused about how to accept this remark.

‘Am I still being treated as a professional hunter?’

However, Seo-joon pondered about the fight not knowing how Seo-yoon felt.

It was definitely different from the fight against monsters and he also saw the gap between professional hunters and himself.

‘I have a long way to go.’

When he was about to move he heard a notification sound his smartphone.

<Chiron Lecture Progress +0.2% (26.7%)>

<Shakyamuni Lecture Progress +0% (5.1%)>

<Xiang Yu Lecture Progress +0.7% (24.8%)>

“What?”

When Seo-joon checked the screen of his smartphone, Chiron’s lecture progress rose by 0.2 percent and Xiang Yu’s rose by 0.7 percent.

‘As expected…’

Seo-joon nodded inwardly.

Although it was almost a one-sided competition, it was clear that if the progress of the lecture rose, it would rise more in the competition.

‘Do you want me to have multiple experiences?’

Seo-joon smirked and burst into laughter. At the same time, he thought it was a good choice to compete.

“What’s wrong with you? Is there something wrong?”

Seo-yoon asked as she was surprised by Seo-joon’s sudden action.

“Seo-yoon, you don’t have anything to do before the competition, do you?”

“Why?”

Seo-yoon was a little taken aback, because she really had nothing to do before and after the competition but Seo-joon continued whether he knew it or not.

“Then can we do this when I don’t participate in dungeon raids?”

“Duel?”

“Yes.”

Seo-yoon thought for a moment at Seo-joon’s request, but was able to reach a conclusion quickly.

In the end, Seo-yoon liked teaching someone, and above all, didn’t she promise to help Seo-joon?

“Yes, yes. I’ll do everything you want. If you win, I’ll give you all the prize money.”

“Huh? Was there a money prize?”

Seo-yoon said happily.

“Yeah. It’s a competition anyway.”

“How much is it?”

“Maybe…”

Seo-yoon’s words changed Seo-joon’s eyes.

“I heard it was 100 million.”

“What?”

It was because he could buy the Longinus’ spear sold at the Transcension Academy for 100 million won.

Seo-joon stepped forward and approached Seo-yoon.

“When did you say the Academy competition was!!?”

“Why are you doing this all of a sudden?”

Seo-yoon was embarrassed by Seo-joon’s appearance, which made her feel breathless.

“In two weeks….”

“Two weeks!”

Seo-joon’s eyes were blazing. He then asked, looking at Seo-yoon with burning eyes.

“Do you happen to have any sandbags here? No, Seo-yoon, how much do you weigh?”

“Huh? What are you talking about all of a sudden?”

“60kg? 70kg?”

“I weigh less than 60kg!”

“That’s all right. It’s not going to be very efficient.”

“Efficiency? What do you mean…?”

Seo-joon turned his back as if nothing had happened, then he took a step.

“One!”

Squat!

‘I don’t know anymore…’

Seo-yoon finally decided to give up on understanding who Seo-joon was.
