Chapter 88: Authentic Feelings

Chang Qing moved again. His new home’s environment was very good. There was also a butler who took care of changing light bulbs, grocery shopping, etc., without needing Chang Qing’s involvement at all.

There was also a garden downstairs. Although there weren’t any flowers growing in winter the greenery was doing very well. Also because it was far away from the road, it was very peaceful and quiet.

Outside the living room, there was a big balcony with half a basketball court. At this time, it was empty, without anybody out there. When you walk out, you could get a great view of the sea.

Chang Qing had nothing to do, so he called Zhang Xinyu and asked if he was free.

When Zhang Xinyu received the phone call, he sighed and said, “How could I find the time to be free? I’ve been as busy as a spinning top ever since I got here.” He was a little anxious, “My hair’s falling out fast too. I feel like even though I’m less than 30 years old I’ll be bald soon.”

Chang Qing: “…that’s a little scary, brother.”

Zhang Xinyu said with a wry smile: “But the salary is high, so I can accept it.”

Chang Qing said: “I have a new house, do you want to come over to play?”

Zhang Xinyu glanced at his calendar, “I’m free this Saturday. I can come over then.”

Chang Qing: “Then I’ll see you Saturday.”

After hanging up the phone, Lin Yifeng happened to call him again. Chang Qing picked up the phone and heard the noisy chatter over there. It wasn’t very peaceful at all. In his ear was the sound of Lin Yifeng speaking, his voice was laced with laughter, warm and gentle, “How have you been doing?”

Chang Qing replied: “Very good.”

Lin Yifeng said: “I’m on set now, and my show will wrap up this week.” It became quiet on his side. It seemed that he had gone somewhere deserted.

Lin Yifeng was filming “Sword Immortal” at this time. The original plot of the novel was the same as it would be now. There were some plot changes that had already been made, but they didn’t change much.

Chang Qing said sincerely: “You’re going to be a hit this time.”

Lin Yifeng smothered a laugh and asked “Are you so confident in me?”

Chang Qing said: “Doesn’t everyone say that you are… an ancestor enjoying meals? Now that you’ve received “Sword Immortal” as your second show, you’ll definitely be a star. I’ll have to hug your thigh when the time comes.”

Lin Yifeng laughed. “What? How can it be so fast? It’s enough to make a living.”

Chang Qing also laughed. He knew that Lin Yifeng was very ambitious, and he wouldn’t be satisfied with just making a living.

He didn’t know what came to his mind, but sighed then spoke: “I moved. Are you free on Saturday?”

Lin Yifeng didn’t want to answer: “I’m free.”

Chang Qing said: “Come to my house then. I want to get together for dinner.”

Lin Yifeng asked: “Just the two of us?”

Chang Qing said: “Along with two other friends of mine, you know Zhang Xinyu.”

Lin Yifeng nodded, and then realized that he couldn’t see him, and said: “I see.”

Chang Qing said: “Then I’ll hang up.”

Someone from Lin Yifeng’s side was also calling him, so it was inconvenient for him to say keep speaking. So he hung up the phone after saying goodbye.

On Chang Qing’s side it was completely quiet. This house was prepared in advance by Lu Zheng. He had everything he needed. All he had to do was move in. He didn’t have much to move from his previous house.

Chang Qing picked up a brand-new cup from the table and smiled. Even the style of the cup was the same as in the Lu’s house.

Lu Zheng was very careful.

Chang Qing had an awkward feeling in his heart that he had accepted his intention after all.

Time passed quickly, and soon it was Saturday. He called Zhang Xinyu and Lu Zheng and asked them to come over.

Chang Qing asked the housekeeper to prepare a lot of wine and all kinds of food, and waited for them to come.

Lin Yifeng was the first one to come over. He was good-looking, and when Chang Qing invited him in, he always felt like he was being blessed with his presence.

Lin Yifeng looked around Chang Qing’s new home, with a smile on his lips, and said sincerely: “You have a nice new home.”

Chang Qing smiled and said, “It’s very good.”

Lin Yifeng gave his gift to Chang Qing, turned around and sat down on the sofa. Chang Qing asked him, “What do you want to drink?”

Lin Yifeng said: “I’ll just have water.”

Chang Qing knew this habit of his, so he quickly poured him a cup of hot water.

Lin Yifeng took a sip of hot water, and his eyes fell on him with a smile. “Have you been staying at home recently?”

Chang Qing listened and smiled faintly, “No, I go to the gym once a day, take a walk twice, and go to the square to stroll around.”

Lin Yifeng nodded, “That’s good, unlike me who is so busy I’m going to become a dead dog.”

Chang Qing asked him about his life in the crew, and Lin Yifeng said lightly: “It’s good, the director is taking good care of me.”

Chang Qing can tell from his expression that he was probably not very good. Lin Yifeng has a good temper and good conditions, but he was a newcomer, and some people don’t like him.  He was probably having some difficulties in the crew, but he has always been smart and wouldn’t make things difficult for others.

Chang Qing felt that he had found the truth. There were some descriptions in the original novel, but now Lin Yifeng was a star artiste. Unlike in the original novel, where not even the company helped him. There was basically no public relations, and he had to rely on himself to pay for the water army.

Chang Qing felt a sense of pride. He had more or less helped Lin Yifeng, which helped him to have a smoother career in the entertainment industry. He felt that his value had also been reflected. He also had the feeling of a parent looking forward to his son’s success in life.

Chang Qing has done a lot, but he has never told Lin Yifeng about it.  First it’s because there was nothing to say, and their friendship might turn sour if it was talked about. Second, it was that Lin Yifeng could have reached that peak on his own. He had only added brick and tile and talking about it would only be annoying. Third, his behavior was a bad thing to talk about, it could be considered as keeping him. Lu Zheng would probably explode if he heard about it.

So Chang Qing never mentioned how much help he could give Lin Yifeng.

In fact, no matter how much help he could give, he couldn’t help much. At most, he just relied on his relationship with Qiao Zhenran and blew wind in his ears1.

Chang Qing still remembered Qiao Zhenran’s resentful words, “You have me, a handsome man, right in front of you but you tell me you won’t even look at me. But you pay so much attention to that surname Lin. That surname Lin is indeed the same kind of person but I’ve heard that he is a bottom, ah.  Sisters have no results, don’t you know?”2

Chang Qing was confused by his last words, but fortunately Qiao Zhenran understood the general idea, and probably felt that Lin Yifeng was talented. So the resources were heavily tilted towards him, and Lin Yifeng could actually get along well in Tianxing.

And Qiao Zhenran’s enthusiasm for him has slowly diminished. It was probably because they hadn’t seen each other for a long time. Even if he had enthusiasm, he didn’t know where to use it. He lamented to Chang Qing, “I haven’t caught you yet. It’s a pity to be kicked out by President Lu after all my work is finished. Otherwise, why don’t you let me chase after you?”

How Chang Qing answered him at that time seemed to be: “I don’t like your type.” And so he sent Qiao Zhenran away.

He was thinking hard when he heard Lin Yifeng’s voice calling him. He looked up and saw Lin Yifeng’s face, much closer to him. Chang Qing was startled and backed away from Lin Yifeng.

Lin Yifeng looked at him and asked with a smile, “What are you thinking about? You were so engrossed in thinking that you didn’t hear me calling you several times.”

Chang Qing also smiled and said, “I’m trying to figure out what to do later.”

Lin Yifeng asked: “Can you cook?”

Chang Qing replied: “I can.”

Lin Yifeng smiled and said in a clear voice, “I can, too. It doesn’t take too much effort. I’ll cook a meal and everyone can have lunch together. I’m pretty good.

Chang Qing frowned, and disagreed, “How could I let the guest cook? I can cook, I’ll just do it myself.”

Lin Yifeng thought for a moment and said, “Then I’ll help you.”

Chang Qing nodded. Just then, the doorbell rang, Chang Qing smiled and said to him, “I guess Zhang Xinyu is here, I’ll go and open the door.”

Lin Yifeng grunted an agreement. Chang Qing stood up, walked to the door, and glanced at the screen. It was indeed Zhang Xinyu, but Lu Zheng and Lu Hua were also standing beside him.

The three of them actually came together.

Chang Qing opened the door, and Zhang Xinyu entered with a bag of fruit in his hand. Lu Zheng followed him in. When he entered the door, he saw a strange man sitting on the sofa and turning his head to look at them.

Lu Zheng frowned, his eyes fell on him, and he had a vague impression that this was the little pretty boy Chang Qing often mentioned.

Lu Zheng glanced at him with some displeasure, and then looked away, out of sight out of mind.

Chang Qing invited them to sit down then, gave them fruit and tea. He took a look at the time and said, “I’ll go and cook, you guys chat.”

Lin Yifeng stood up and said, “I’ll help you.”

Chang Qing glanced at Lu Zheng and squeezed his fingers. He was a little disappointed, but it was only a moment of emotion. He quickly returned to normal and smiled and said to Lin Yifeng, “Come with me.”

Lu Zheng said, “I can cook, too.”

Chang Qing paused, and said briskly, “Just sit down. We’ll be all right in the kitchen.”

Lu Zheng stared at Lin Yifeng, feeling that Chang Qing was doing it on purpose.

Why did he have to be so close to this little pretty boy?

Seeing his expression, Zhang Xinyu peeled an orange for him in silence and then handed it to Lu Zheng.

Lu Zheng’s eyes fell on the orange in Zhang Xinyu’s hand. He pursed his lips, and took it.

In the kitchen, Chang Qing cut the vegetables quickly. Lin Yifeng looked on and exclaimed, “Your knife work is very good.”

Chang Qing spoke without raising his head, “I worked as an apprentice in a hotel kitchen for half a year so I practiced for a while.”

Lin Yifeng was a little taller than him. He came closer and asked, “What can I do for You?”

Chang Qing said, “I’ll cut vegetables and you cook.”

Lin Yifeng was a little surprised, “Me?”

Chang Qing glanced back at him, the corners of his lips curled up, and he said, “Your cooking must be better than mine, so you can do it this time.”

Lin Yifeng was a little amused, “How do you know that my cooking must be better than yours?”

Chang Qing remembered that after the original Lu Zheng had eaten Lin Yifeng’s cooking he could no longer eat Mother Zhang’s cooking. Whenever he had a chance, he would find an excuse to go to Lin Yifeng’s house for a free meal. With a hint of jealousy in his voice, he said, “… I just know.”

Lin Yifeng found it very interesting. Chang Qing seemed to know him very well, but he didn’t remember anyone like him in his memory. He shook his head and shook off his thoughts. The corners of his lips curled up into a gentle smile, “Since you trust me so much, I can’t afford to let you down, so I’ll do it this time.”

Chang Qing handled the ingredients by himself, and then made room for Lin Yifeng to show off his skills.

Today was Lu Zheng’s first meeting with Lin Yifeng. He wanted to see if he was attracted to Lin Yifeng.

Chang Qing couldn’t tell what he was feeling right now. He was a little annoyed and a little sour

If Lu Zheng was attracted by Lin Yifeng, he should know that his feelings for him was just the moon’s reflection in water and flowers in a mirror3. Only his feelings for Lin Yifeng was real.

1. blow the wind in the ear—instigate someone to do something

2.姐妹磨b,天打雷劈 – this is the phrase in Chinese. The actual phrase seems to be internet slang but I can’t find a good way to write it out or a better definition of it. The second half is something like “being punished by heaven” and is used as a swear/curse. If anyone can give me a good definition of it please let me know.

3. an illusion
