Chapter 12 – Resurrection Magic Circle
“Now, here’s where we’re going to start. Watch closely—”
When Yuzuriha-san said this and left the man’s side…
The magic circle on the floor emitted a strong light and struck the man’s corpse like a flood.
Eventually, when the flood of magic receded, there was a man who had come back to life.
“What do you think? As you two have just seen, this magic circle has the power to regenerate any living creature that died inside it. In other words—”
“In other words?”
“Even if you die many times in combat training, you can come back to life, and you can keep killing spies who don’t give up information until they do. It’s very useful.”
The man who came back from the dead had no strong will in his eyes, only fright.
Yuzuriha-san didn’t give the man a second thought, but walked up to him again and kicked him in the face.
The man jumped out of the magic circle at the speed of an arrow and was slammed straight into the wall.
“Anyway, we’ll torture that man at a later date, but today we’re training for combat with Suzuha-kun’s older brother.”
“In this magic circle?”
“Yes, in this magic circle—After all, growth in training is inevitably inferior to actual combat, because of the possibility of death.”
I understand the logic of that.
No matter how much training you accumulate, there is one part of a real battle that you just can’t compete with.
It’s in the actual experience of life-threatening situations that explosive growth in ability is encouraged.
Explosive growth, sometimes even called awakening, is always the result of evolution forcibly triggered by a serious life-threatening crisis.
“That’s…very fascinating.”
“Right!”
I see, Yuzuriha-san must be strong.
It’s usually never possible to deliberately cause a life-threatening situation to grow explosively.
Because no matter how strong you get, if you keep doing that, one day you will really die.
But with that magic circle, that disadvantage is eliminated.
“You understand, don’t you, Suzuha-kun’s older brother?—There are people in this world who think that no matter how many times you die, if you can come back to life, there’s no point.”
“Yeah, I’m sure there are.”
“Then I’d say try dying once… The human survival instinct is not so naive. Even if you understand in your head that you’ll ‘come back to life,’ if you really die, your brain will release lots of dopamine and you’ll see your life flashing before your eyes. Thanks to that, my childhood memories are crystal clear.”
“I see.”
Because the life flashing before the eyes is repeated many times, even memories that one would normally not remember are clear.
“Well then, Suzuha-kun and her brother. Let’s start the training without any restraint—!”
At first, I thought that I would occasionally participate in Suzuha and Yuzuriha-san’s training.
However, the training soon turned into a real combat format, with Suzuha and Yuzuriha-san versus me.
Suzuha and Yuzuriha-san both attacked me.
Suzuha was hesitant at first, but when she got used to it, she started to aim at my vital points. In fact, she would only aim at my vital point itself, with not a single millimeter of error.
Not to mention Yuzuriha-san.
Yuzuriha-san’s strength is one or two levels higher than Suzuha’s, so she must be taking it easy on me. After all, I’m an amateur.
“—Nii-san! Why are my attacks not landing! I can’t land a hit!”
“Well, that’s because if I get hit, I’ll die.”
No matter how much they say I will come back to life, I still don’t want to die.
Suzuha’s moves included the thrust punch, roundhouse kick, palm strike, eye poke, and sometimes even a slap.
Each of these attacks is a sure-fire way to die if taken seriously.
So I continued to dodge them, and when I couldn’t avoid them, I twisted my body and deflected the strikes away from vital points to handle them.
Yuzuriha-san was also doing the same thing.
However, her attacks were even sharper, and there were a few moments where it was quite dangerous.
But I still managed to get around it.
I think if these two had used combination attacks against me, I might have really died.
