Chapter 62 - Adaptation

Sitting on the quaint bed cross legged Layton kept his breathing calm and rhythmic, there was a ripple of light around him and various energies from the void leaked into the room flushing Layton cells, his spirit which was in the form of mist was connected to his cells throughout this process making sure his body was in peak state suppressing whatever mutation wanted to occur and adapting naturally to the chaotic energies and that was being sent into the room by the array placed under the bed.

Layton had finished reading most of the materials and he had started optimizing his body most of the materials were mostly about knowledge of the human body and the various reaction and changes wizards unique spirit would have on it, using the knowledge he understood from the numerous articles he applied for the tower spirit to open a small hole leading to the void to allow various chaotic energies to surround him and baptize his body, he got this idea to increase his body's adaptability and defense according to the overview of basic evolutionary capabilities of the cell there were examples of humans who were born in the void and various extreme environments still having the basic human genome and sequence but having the ability to bear a little bit of the chaotic environment in the void and having strengthened defense against energy attacks.

Although wizards could have this ability as they grew stronger it was however rare to have such defense at a low level and humans who had this ability at a low level could grow stronger as they grew stronger.

At his first try, the wisp of energy that went through Layton's body brought him unimaginable pain and almost mutating his gene sequence if not for the tower spirit supervising him and quickly healing him Layton's body structure would have changed in a direction he did not hope for.

From the materials sent Layton was able to infer that Makarov did not want him rashly changing his body but wanted to build on his basic human sequence and from what he learned he knew if his body changed his armed haki would be affected not being able to grow to its peak state even his Magia Erebea spell that had been imprinted on his armed domineering would be affected and the use of the spell would be more dangerous to use as his cell information would have changed greatly causing unnecessary complications.

After his first try and failure Layton studied again and decided to use his spirt to connect to his cells while using his emperor haki to suppress and control his body, this helped in the adaptation process and reduced the consequences of the chaotic environment on him but that wasn't all as his spirit in the form of mist was connected to all of his cells he was also strengthening the connection between his spirit and body making it easier for him to collect more information via his body and spirit simultaneously strengthening his observation haki, and allowing his armed haki to be able to cover not his body but also his individual cells.

Breathing heavily Layton closed the array leaking the void environment and took a rest, Although the pain had been reduced it did not affect the stress and exhaustion he felt every time he practiced, it was going to take a while before his practice would reach consummation and his physique would be at the peak of level 1 creatures, although his body might not be stronger than Martial artists of the same level but his body's fit with his rune would be at the best of his level.

After taking a deep breath and a short rest Layton started meditating using his spirit to perceive his genetic information, although the information was cluttered, chaotic and harsh to his soul, Layton still preserved he was doing this to strengthen his will and intuition.

Layton was practicing so crazily because a few days ago Makarov had sent him message asking Layton to participate in an event that took place in a core world, a core world was the official name given to a world that existed directly in the void like the original world of the wizard world, Layton instinctively declined the offer but Makarov had explained that the event would be limited to only level 1 wizards all over the void and there was no danger of death.

Layton agreed upon hearing this, it was a good chance for Layton to see various other geniuses belonging to various civilizations and practicing different systems and an event of this size was definitely not going to be stingy with its prizes.

Makarov was outside in the meadow feeding the rare birds he had imported from various planes while looking through the transparent screen in front of him at Layton who was practicing vigorously in the room, seeing the boy's hard work and concentration these days Makarov couldn't help but stroke his beard in satisfaction, there was only a few days left till it was time for the Holy grail event and judging from Layton's progress he would soon reach the culmination of his physique at the current level, although this wouldn't guarantee him to win it was enough to give him a good start, coupled with the combat training Makarov had planned for Layton when he had reached culmination he was sure Layton would get a good final position which would help make his and Constantine's plan smoother.
