Chapter 158

158 Fight club

Zero emerged from the interlayer with burn marks all over her body, her clothing although made of special material was damaged by the brief attack and various holes appeared on her apparel, Layton gazed at her curiously, he had no idea of pity in his gaze after all injuries were very common during practice, he was observing her injuries, trying to understand the difference between burns made by attacks made by law and normal burns, from what he could see the parts of her body that had been affected had been basically torched, the cells dead and deprived of all energy leaving her in an extreme state of pain and energy loss, the residual breath of the law still existed on the wound lingering, strongly hindering the occurrence of healing, injuries like these were basically fatal and permanent to extraordinary stage creatures without external help, although also harmful to legendary powerhouses they weren’t as affected, as long as some time was used to clear the breath of the law or another law was used to neutralize effects. It was obvious from her face she was in great pain as she was caught off guard by the attack.

Zero ignored Layton who was staring at her and just softly whispered an obscure phrase which happened to activate the backhand of the training room, a green glow enveloped the whole room and the feeling of exhaustion that haunted Layton was gone, so were the deep wounds that Zero suffered, even her clothes seemed to have time reversed as they changed back to their perfect condition the lingering breath of ignition law cleared by the energy, Lilith was also a beneficiary of this phenomenon as the cocoon she was in shattered and she reemerged good as new.

Layton wasn’t surprised by this occurrence after all he had already guessed the existence of a mechanism or procedure in the room to heal injuries sustained in sparring after all at their present level except for cases where there existed a huge gap between opponents there was absolutely no way to avoid the existence of injuries.

“It seems I need to increase my defence, or at least increase my sentiments about the laws I already have insight into.” Zero said as she stared at her teammates,

It wasn’t that Zero had never thought of this before now but that she assumed her current means would be enough, she delved deeply into space and comprehended part of the law of space specifically allowing her to shuttle with ease through layers of space, as for healing the ability of her unique energy ‘mystery’ which was now able to act on herself took up the role of healing when need be, she was mainly focusing on comprehending relevant laws that applied to her unique energy which was why she had basically neglected her practice in the spatial laws she mastered.

Normally her evasive ability consisting of spatial laws was considered sufficient but the attack Layton made overruled that, it wasn’t just because it was urged by law but because the attack was exerted the energy of the law almost perfectly in the move, Zero’s movement through the layers of space was only a rudimentary use of the spatial laws she comprehended, merely comprehending laws doesn’t just grant you the ability to wield its power, the adequate application is also very necessary which is why even when multiple practitioner practices and comprehend the same law the combat power they have would still be drastically different from each other, it was like scientific formulas, some scientists’ may only be able to use them to create and drive engines while others are able to use the same formula to create nuclear reactors.

the sparring match had ended and naturally, some flaws had been exposed in the battle zero was merely summing up her mistakes and relaying them to her teammates hoping for their own input and advice.

“You are an assassin; I don’t think you need to be overly concerned with defence once your sentiment about the part of the law you master is enough it should be able to circumvent any major problems in the future.” Layton commented giving his own input into the matter.

Lilith on the other hand looked rather confused as she was not conscious to witness the battle between Layton and Zero. She stared at them both with curiosity in her eyes, Zero gave her a look of reassurance implying she would satisfy her curiosity later. Seemingly satisfied zero turned to Layton and asked “What was that finishing move you made?”

.....

“It wasn’t a law attack, it was pure will, I simply blocked printed part of will on you interfering with the connection with your body and soul” Layton replied and then continued leisurely as he stared at Lilith,

“It can easily be replicated by martial artists especially those with very high attainment in intent, as to how far the damage caused by the martial artist could go, I’m not particularly sure, but you should definitely be cautious when facing someone like that.”

Zero chipped in saying, “Not only that any high-end energy source could deal you serious damage and hamper your resurrection ability.” High-end energy were mostly encountered in the hands of science federation geniuses, this wasn’t to say wizards and martial artists didn’t have them, zero’s ‘mystery’ Layton’s psionic even ordinary spiritual power and mana if developed to the limit allowing it to possess special characteristics and attributes could be classified as high-end energy sources.

“You should be careful with the laws you comprehend, although their influence now is minimal but at a point, it will increase and be an obstacle later, it’s better to start thinking about your path or the core of your practice.”

Laws not only had effects on opponents but also the users which was why legend was basically the threshold for someone to gain insight into them even then law comprehension wasn’t smooth sailing for legends, insight into a law could result in a change making it easier to gain insight to the laws related to the one the legend first got insight to, this change also made it difficult to comprehend opposite laws, for example, a wizard who gained insight into laws of water would find it easier to comprehend other water related spells or laws and would be deeply repelled by that of fire making it hard to gain insight into its nature, not only that once an insight into one law was deep enough and without proper precautions this law would affect one’s rune, spirit and body and would require an enormous amount of effort to eliminate its influence, although this influence meant nothing to some geniuses it would still add unnecessary roadblocks to an otherwise smooth path. In simple terms it was like handling a nuclear reactor, without sufficient preparation and knowledge it could easily kill you and even with sufficient preparation there still existed the possibility of radiation damage.

This was why zero was focusing on her mystery trying to comprehend laws relating to it and incorporate them into her energy, the path she wanted to take was a unique one that was based on the energy and she was reluctant to spend more of her time on spatial laws.

Layton was grateful for her reminder but he naturally wasn’t too worried about this the reason he had taken a complicated way to advance to legend was to naturally combat this issue and reduce the influence it had on him. Zero stared at his clear gaze and understood he had his plans and did not speak further on the issue instead she asked with an inquiring tone, “Do you want to join the fight club?”
