Chapter 74 - Energy Barrier
What appeared in front of Viktor at this moment seemed like something that came straight out of those sci-fi movies. It was simply unbelievable.
A light blue dome-like energy barrier suddenly appeared on top of the steel wall which swiftly covered the entire settlement in a matter of seconds. He then watched as a dozen men climbed the wall. They moved so fast, it was as if the wall was flat ground.
All of them were holding weird-looking rifles, and one of them, who wore an eye patch, yelled out,
"Take fire!!"
Contrary to expectations, the dozen people were shooting a laser-like gun. Viktor was taken aback by what he saw for the second time. Just the day before, he experienced firsthand how it felt being part of medieval movies, and now he was suddenly in a sci-fi one.
The only thing lacking was someone appearing out of nowhere with a sword made out of laser beam, then it would completely convince him that he really is in a movie.
Viktor then thought about climbing up the wall in order to keep a closer look on these people. But then, a pair of men who stood before him quickly pointed similar guns at him. A wry smile appeared on his face.
It served as a cue for him to simply sit back and enjoy the show.
From the sky above, one of the flying gargoyles flew swiftly in the air and slammed into the barrier-like wall, yet its fierce momentum was still unable to go through the light blue barrier. Moreover, it didn't give up as it kept trying, hitting the barrier in hopes that an opening might appear.
Suddenly, Viktor saw an imposing figure with long, flowing blonde hair charged at the flying monster and hurled a shining spear toward it. That sudden attack opportunely pierced right to its chest. The long-haired man even managed to leap over the barrier and continue fighting beyond the wall.
Just by looking at his fighting skills as well as his powers, Viktor could know right away that the man was unquestionably a sky realm fighter. He and the man who was wearing an eye patch were both presents, and there were three other sky realms in the vicinity that were guarding the gates. Meanwhile, the earth realm was represented by ten men who were holding the laser gun and the other twenty-something were standing on guard holding melee weapons.
Initially, things were going smoothly and seemed to be fine. However, all of a sudden, the barrier they were dependent on went off, the situation quickly turned into chaos and many of the fighters fell into panic.
This disorder was quickly taken advantage of by the enemies as two gargoyles managed to fly across the town. Knowing the severe consequences if those two gargoyles were left alone, the eye patch man was forced to chase after them, jumping from roof to roof while shouting,
"I'll take care of it!! You all defend the gate!"
Loud and erratic scenes ensued as people were shouting loudly and forming a mob in front of the steel gate, and Viktor could see that it was being smashed from the other sides.
A few seconds later, it was clear that the gate could not withstand the pressure it received and finally broke. In an instant, a stampede of hellhounds and critters surged through the broken gate. However, the twenty earth realm fighters around had long been prepared for this.
Some used spears, some used sword shields, and some of them even used arrows to defend themselves. Despite the fact that none of them were using firearms, they were all successful in stopping the invading creatures from causing further chaos.
It dawned on Viktor that the earth realm fighters in front of them were not all fighters and that some of them were trembling as they were holding the line. However, their actions were somehow sufficient, at least until another wave of creatures came charging through the main gate, with some of the hellhounds leaping out of the wall to attack the guards.
"There are too many of them!!" shouted one of the earth realm fighters fighting on the line.
This situation on the other hand, gave an opportunity for Viktor to show some good will to the town by saying;
"You two should not waste time holding us. Let us help!!"
The two men who guarded him clearly hesitated. They looked at each other, their gazes wavering. However, seeing how their companions were about to be overwhelmed by the creatures, the two eventually accepted Viktor's suggestion. Immediately, the rest were following them resisting the coming hordes.
The assault from the abyss creatures kept going relentlessly, but when the three sky realm fighters were finally able to join the line, they immediately took control and started to dominate the situation.
A split second later, the long-haired man entered from behind the gate and began casting ice spells, which instantly froze half a dozen of the monsters and even created temporary ice walls to keep the hordes separated.
It was a good opportunity to clean up everything that had come into the town.
At the same time, Viktor and the two bodyguards joined the fight. Viktor charged in with a tier 2 axe in hand and beautifully killed the critters and hellhound, while Boris and Torri joined in with high caliber firearms.

Their action was quickly noticed by the others, but when almost all the hellhound and critters inside the gate were dealt with, Barry suddenly shouted while pointing his finger at the sky.
"Look! In the sky!"
There were dozens of gargoyles that were flying through the air, heading to enter the town, and knowing their power, this could be extremely bad news for the town.
Viktor could tell how the terror quickly spread across the town. The main problem was that these gargoyles could only be defeated through the use of magic, which meant that even he could not do anything about them.
In the middle of the battlefield, a group of five gargoyles dropped down from the sky into the center of the battle and stood just a few meters in front of him. Threat after threat rained down on them once more, seemingly without end.
It was at this point that Viktor became aware of a figure running from behind him at breakneck speed, akin to a bolt of lightning. Even though the other party was moving swiftly, he could still catch and recognize its figure as a girl with long tied up brown hair.
When the gargoyle was about to attack, the girl threw a couple of small shiny metal balls under its feet. Viktor initially assumed it was a grenade, but it turned out to explode an electrical charge toward the 5 gargoyles, causing them to be hurled and stunned for a few seconds.
Seeing this, the girl quickly shouted, "Now is the time, attack!!"
Right after, Viktor saw how people started moving in and quickly attacking the gargoyles with their current weapon, which he believed was merely a normal tier 1 or 2 just like his, not a magical one. However, unlike what he expected, their attack appeared to be successful and things escalated quickly.
One of the golems ragingly charged at the brown haired girl, and the girl pulled out a pair of metal sticks and used them to parry the gargoyle's attack.
She glanced at Viktor and said, "Give a girl a hand, will you?"
As a gentleman, Viktor would naturally not turn down such a request, so he quickly dashed in and swung the tier 2 ax as strong as he possibly could. The air seemed to be cut as the ax traveled downwards toward its target.
Splatt!
Unexpectedly, Viktor successfully created a large cut on the gargoyle's back, causing the creature to writhe in pain before falling to the ground and dead.
[You have received the spirit energy of a stage three abyss creature]
[You have received one point of spirit force]
It was a complete success.
The girl winked at him and said, "Thank you… you're my hero!" said the girl with a teasing smile.
The girl then swiftly glanced at her watch and then up at the sky above the walls, she pointed and started counting down.
"Three… two… one!"
The light blue barrier reappeared right on her cue, this time keeping all other incoming gargoyles from entering the town.
It did not take long for the rest of the creatures to finally retreat after the barrier was restored, and the people quickly cheered.
The chaos distracted them from Viktor's celebration for a moment, and Viktor noticed how the people started to clean up the street, picking up the spirit stones. The girl, on the other hand, focused her entire attention on him and said,
"You are new, aren't you? What is your name?."
