C15 – He Bought My Story

Boom!

The flames were burning fiercely, gradually turning the corpse into ashes.

The body, hardened from the burning, shattered and black smoke rose from the remains, floating in the flames.

One could vaguely hear that there were countless ghosts howling within the black smoke, and then they were immediately sealed by the Spiritual Energy.

Or Liu Yuan’s spirit butterfly, to be specific.

“Yue Longzhang really is a piece of shit. He acted like an asshole when he was alive, and now even his dead body disgusts people as such.”

Ma Shu blankly stared at the flames in front of him and thought to himself.

“If he hadn’t been the son of an elder of the sect, he wouldn’t have been selected as the leading disciple in the first place.”

Ma Shu’s eyes were filled with disdain, but also mixed with jealousy and envy.

Yue Longzhang was a disciple of Water Moon Dock; actually, his whole family had been disciples of Water Moon Dock for generations, gradually promoted from the outer-sect disciples to the inner-sect ones, and the Yue Family could almost be regarded as loyal servants of the sect.

But Ma Shu was different. With his thick-soul physique and talent, he could have made a name for himself.

However, because he was from an ordinary family, he hadn’t received enough resources and training, and thus his talent had never been seen or appreciated.

That was until the people from Luo Shengtian found him.

“I didn’t know there would be someone else from Holy Cult here… But why haven’t I been informed in advance? Is he a spy or something? But this mission is so important… they should have let me know.”

“Or maybe everything just happened so fast that they didn’t have the time to tell me…”

Ma Shu murmured.

He no longer had that timid look on his face when he was in front of others earlier.

Although his features remained the same, there was a malicious and fierce look in his eyes against the flames, which changed his temperament completely.

“Hey, I’m not a spy.”

Liu Yuan’s voice suddenly sounded.

Ma Shu was shocked. The next second, he felt a pair of hands pressing on his shoulders.

He struggled for a moment, but that man was so strong that he couldn’t get out of his grip.

Ma Shu had no choice but to give up. He took a deep breath and asked, “Who are you, sir? As far as I know, no one else from Holy Cult is here to meet me or has been here as an undercover agent in Pool Feather Mountain Manor.”

Liu Yuan let go of the young man and replied, “I am indeed an undercover agent of Holy Cult, but I’m not here to help you with your mission. I was sent to Sea Slashing Tower on another mission, but there was an accident a few days ago, so I ended up here. I don’t know much about your mission.”

Ma Shu widened his eyes in surprise, “Sea Slashing Tower?”

That represented the greatest force in the world!

Everyone in the world of Upper Central knew about it. Sea Slashing Tower was located in the middle of the Sea of Eternity, the easternmost part of the Middle Continent.

The Tower stood there guarding the Middle Continent against the Devil Clan as well as other dark forces.

The master of the Sea Slashing Tower was one of the strongest people in the world, having reached the Tribulation Stage.

Luo Shengtian had sent this man to be a spy in the Sea Slashing Tower…

God knows how good he must have been at his job! And he had certainly done a great job disguising himself!

Ma Shu felt a chill down his spine. Would the man kill him?

As if knowing what was on Ma Shu’s mind, Liu Yuan chuckled, “Don’t be afraid. If I wanted to kill you, I could have done it just now. You senior sister Ning Xiangrong wouldn’t even think of stopping me. Of course, I can easily kill you now.”

“Suppose I kill you here and make it look like you die of the poison on Yue Longzhang’s body. Do you think anyone would even be suspicious of what I say?”

Despite what Liu Yuan said, however, Ma Shu was actually relieved.

‘He’s right. If he wanted to kill me, he could have done it a long time ago. There’s no need to wait until now.’

Ma Shu composed himself. By now, he had already been convinced of Liu Yuan’s identity.

But he still had some doubts.

So he asked carefully, “I have another question, though… How did you end up here in Pool Feather Mountain Manor?”

“How?” Liu Yuan seemed amused by the question, “Can’t you see? My mission in the Sea Slashing Tower failed, and… Alas!”

He sighed heavily. It seemed that he didn’t really want to talk about it.

Liu Yuan was already quite good at deceiving others. It was not difficult for him to read others’ minds. After all, he had dealt with so many characters in Upper Center over the years and had gained a lot of experience.

Therefore, it had almost become his second nature to see through people’s thoughts just by their expressions and body language.

Naturally, he could tell that Ma Shu was still a bit suspicious.

Liu Yuan walked in front of Ma Shu with his hands behind his back and changed the topic, “I’ve been away on mission for years, so I’m no longer familiar with the people of Holy Cult. I wonder if the messenger of Holy Cult in charge of the Jiang Kingdom is still Ao Zhiyuan the ‘Heavenly Devil Hand?’ Or is it Wei Ding, the kid who was always following him back then?”

Ma Shu was stunned for a moment, then he shook his head and said, “No… Lord Heavenly Devil Hand passed away five years ago. Lord Wei Ding was the successor for a few years, but he got killed in the conflict with Jade Void Sect. The current Holy Messenger is Lord Xu Xuefeng.”

The identity of the Holy Cult’s messengers was always kept a secret.

Besides, the man seemed quite familiar with two of the messengers.

Apart from the people of Holy Cult, no one else could have known about it in such detail.

Otherwise, Holy Cult would not be so different from other sects.

And the man sounded like an experienced expert who had been around in the immortal realm for many years…

Now Ma Shu had no doubt in his mind. He bowed and said respectfully, “Senior Liu, please let me know how I can help you. I’m at your service.”

Liu Yuan knew Ma Shu had bought his story.

He sighed in his heart. If it weren’t for the saintess of Devil Cult, he wouldn’t have known so much about the members of the Cult.

Wait a second…

Liu Yuan’s smile suddenly froze.

Damn it.

If he messed up Devil Cult’s plan, he would definitely draw the attention of the Cult, and the saintess found out about it…

Liu Yuan frowned. Things might get tricky.

As far as he could recall, that woman was crazy!

He really shouldn’t have got involved with so many characters!

Forget it, he would just have to take things one step at a time.

“You won’t be able to help me.” Liu Yuan said.

Ma Shu smiled awkwardly at this. Liu Yuan continued, “Just tell me who your superior is. I will go meet him myself.”

He had previously mentioned that he had been an undercover agent for a long time, and that he only came back because he failed to complete his mission, so naturally he had lost contact with people in the Middle Continent.

“Well…” Ma Shu stammered, “I, I have no way of contacting him, actually. I only receive orders from him. Only recently, I’ve been asked to report back.”

Then he suddenly gave himself a light slap on the forehead. “Oh right! I need to bring Xue Zhui to meet my superior and he will teach him the cultivation technique of Holy Cult.”

Ma Shu continued, “You can come with me.”

Liu Yuan nodded and said, “Okay. Then I’ll take care of Yue Longzhang. Now let’s be clear about one thing: he is the spy from Devil Cult. Do you understand What I’m saying?”

“Yue Longzhang?” Ma Shu was stunned, but he immediately got the point, “So he will take the blame for me. But… is someone suspecting me?”

Liu Yuan nodded, “I think Ning Xiangrong has already found out who you are.”

Ma Shu broke out in a cold sweat, “What… How is this possible? Besides, aren’t you quite close with Ning Xiangrong?”

Liu Yuan sneered, “I simply played some tricks and that woman just lost her mind over me.”

Seeing his cold sneer, Ma Shu thought to himself that the vicious man was indeed qualified to be a member of Holy Cult — even a beauty like Miss Ning was just a tool in his eyes.

He became even more respectful towards Liu Yuan and believed every word he said.

Liu Yuan strolled down the mountain path, breathing in the fresh air along the way. He felt relaxed.

“It’s so nice to be alone… All these characters are just giving me a headache.”

Liu Yuan let out a long breath.

Somehow he felt like all he ever did since his transmigration was fooling people.
