CH 40

“Well, I’m taking measures for the time being.”

What Milim was pointing at was a magical tool left by a priest.

“That’s what created the flow of miasma in the first place, intentionally exposing weak creatures and monsters around here to it.”

“But won’t that result in a mass production of undead?”

“Becoming an undead requires a certain amount of inherent magical power and strength as an individual.”

“I see.”

Clever… but then again…

“Why is the miasma overflowing now?”

“Well, that’s because the dragon’s inherent magical power is running low.”

“It’s increasing even though it’s running low?”

“Candles burn brightest just before they go out. The miasma is the same.”

“So if we leave it alone, this place will be okay…?”

“If we leave it alone, yes. It’s at a delicate balance with the dragon collecting this miasma, and one wrong step could turn the dragon into an undead.”

Bringing Milim here was a good idea. I could only report the situation if it was just me.

“Is there anything we can do?”

“Well… the quickest way is to gather the miasma and strike the dragon when it revives.”

“Rejected.”

“I thought as much…”

It would be counterproductive to intervene, considering the purpose of our visit.

“By the way, is it even possible to gather the miasma and bring it to the dragon?”

“Oh? Are you interested?”

“Not really.”

“Hehe. Well, I’m not sure I can do it alone, but with that magical tool, it’s possible.”

Ah, I see. If there’s already a magical tool for distributing miasma, we could just redirect it toward the dragon…

“Well, besides that, we could reduce the miasma by removing it or receiving it in exchange, then check on the dragon’s situation. We also need to eliminate any other vessels besides the dragon, just in case a sage dies and becomes a lich here.”

“What a frightful situation…”

“Well then, let’s investigate again.”

“Yes. By the way, the miasma is Twilight Magic. I can control it once I get used to it. Even you can.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes.”

As she said that, Milim raised her hand in front of her and made a flicking motion, and the miasma split to either side, creating a path.

“That’s amazing…”

“I can do this much easily, but reducing the overall flow or changing its direction is another story.”

“That’s fine…”

We then followed the path cleared by Milim.
