Do You Still Hate Her? 24 – Chi Yan’s desire for victory

Shang Lu asked Chi Yan, “Did you call it Xiao Guai last time? Is that its name?”

“Yeah, because it’s obedient1,” Chi Yan replied, taking out a bottle of yogurt from the refrigerator and placing it on the coffee table in front of Shang Lu.

Glancing at it, Shang Lu was somewhat surprised and said, “It’s my favorite brand.”

“Oh, really? I didn’t notice. I just grabbed it casually,” Chi Yan said, sitting next to Shang Lu and reaching out to his dog, saying, “Xiao Guai, come here.”

However, Xiao Guai wasn’t obedient at all; it completely ignored Chi Yan and continued devouring the small biscuits.

Shang Lu patted the head of the little teddy bear dog and earnestly said, “Xiao Guai, so obedient.”

Chi Yan naturally detected that Shang Lu was mocking him, so he gave her a displeased look and said, “I won’t argue with you.”

Saying that, he got up and walked into the kitchen.

Shang Lu didn’t care where Chi Yan went; she continued to play with the little dog seriously for a while. Then suddenly, she lifted her head and sniffed.

“Chi Yan!”

She called his name.

A response came from the kitchen, “What’s the matter?”

“Are you cooking?” Shang Lu said, not quite believing herself. She then put down the little dog and walked in the direction of the kitchen, closing her eyes and opening the door.

Seeing her like this, Chi Yan found it amusing and asked, “Why don’t you open your eyes?”

“Let me guess,” Shang Lu sniffed hard, then identified the dishes, “Braised sea bass, salt and pepper prawns, and… spicy boiled pork slices! Kung Pao chicken!”

Chi Yan’s voice sounded astonished, “Are you a dog? You got them all right.”

“What are you saying? That’s called experience,” Shang Lu smiled at Chi Yan triumphantly and said, “Even if there’s a door between us, I can tell what dish it is just by smelling it.”

During the days when she was confined, being alone in that empty and cold room was frightening and boring, so she played games with herself.

For example, when each meal was placed at the door, she didn’t immediately go to pick it up. Instead, she closed her eyes and tried to smell and guess what dish it was. If she guessed correctly, she felt a bit happier about the meal.

As she grew older, due to her father working outside, and Shang Mu attending a boarding school, there was hardly anyone at home. Occasionally, when eating alone, Shang Lu would still close her eyes and guess what dishes were there, just like she did when she was a child.

These things happened a long time ago, and they didn’t really matter. It was just a whimsical attempt by her, and unexpectedly, it worked this time.

Chi Yan’s gaze fell on her face.

He reached out his hand, pressing the index fingertip against her slightly upturned lips and furrowed his brow, pushing them down.

Shang Lu grabbed his wrist and asked curiously, “What are you doing?”

“If you don’t want to smile, then don’t,” Chi Yan said, retracting his hand and not saying anything more. He turned around and served the dishes from the pot.

Shang Lu widened her eyes, seemingly realizing a bit late, “Wait, did you cook all of this?”

“Yeah,” Chi Yan replied, even more surprising Shang Lu.

She couldn’t cook at all, and yet Chi Yan had learned? Did she underestimate him when he washed the strawberries last time? When did this young master have a change of character?

Shang Lu patted her head and said, “Am I dreaming? Did you learn this abroad?”

“It’s not that, I just learned a bit last month and thought I’d let you evaluate it,” Chi Yan said, carrying the dishes outside, “Hurry, wash your hands and get a bowl to eat.”

Shang Lu : “???”

Wait, he just learned last month? Can this be edible? It couldn’t be that it only looks good on the surface, right?

But soon, Shang Lu was proven wrong.

The fish was tender and delicious. Shang Lu couldn’t stop herself from eating one bite after another.

Every other dish was also delicious, and they were all her favorites!

Shang Lu really wanted to eat more, but she considered that she had to take her makeup photos tomorrow and couldn’t have a swollen face, so she controlled herself very well.

In the end, Shang Lu gave Chi Yan a thumbs up and sincerely praised, “Young Master Chi, you are indeed a genius. Even in the matter of cooking, you are naturally gifted.”

Clearly, Chi Yan wasn’t the kind of person who would get carried away by a simple compliment. He directly said, “Flattering me? What do you want?”

“Do you often cook for yourself? Can I occasionally join you for meals? I can pay for the food,” Shang Lu asked.

“I’ll think about it,” Chi Yan turned his face away and didn’t look at Shang Lu. He asked, “First, evaluate my cooking skills.”

Shang Lu cooperated with compliments, “Very impressive.”

“Then…” Chi Yan paused for a few seconds and asked, “Between me and Xu Ze, who cooks better?”

Shang Lu : “?”

What does Xu Ze have to do with this?

But Shang Lu thought back seriously. Xu Ze had cooked twice before, so she chose to answer honestly, “He’s slightly better. His knife skills are better, and he probably has more experience.”

Chi Yan looked at Shang Lu as if her answer amused him and asked, “He’s better than me? Then why don’t you go eat at his place?”

“I want to, but he doesn’t live here,” Shang Lu said, a bit regretful as she picked up another shrimp. Her tone showed that she really wanted to try Xu Ze’s cooking.

Shang Lu thought that Chi Yan had rejected her, which made sense. Chi Yan wouldn’t have the time to personally cook every day. So she obediently lowered her head and ate this first and last meal.

Then she received a tap on her head.

Shang Lu frowned and looked at Chi Yan.

“Sometimes, it’s okay to tell a little white lie,” he said, withdrawing his hand. Then awkwardly, he added, “You can come over starting next week. Just let me know what you want to eat in advance.”

But Shang Lu focused on the wrong thing, asking, “Why is it next week?”

“I’m busy these few days,” Chi Yan replied and urged, “Stop staring at me and eat your food.”

That night, Chi Yan sent a message to his assistant.

“Help me find a professional chef who is skilled in knife techniques.”

It seemed he needed another week of practice.

Next week, he would undoubtedly have better knife skills than that guy called Xu Ze.

The next morning, Shang Lu signed the contract and took the official announcement photo shoot.

The official account released four solo make-up photos, one group photo, and a poster.

Shang Lu’s photo was saved as a screensaver by countless fans.

Fans were excited.

[Ah! Is Lulu going to play a gentle and studious Senior Sister this time? She looks so obedient.]

[I didn’t expect Shang Lu could appear so calm… it’s a bit unusual.]

[Hahaha, a cute and clever schoolgirl! She’s the Sister I love!]

The director’s goal had been successfully achieved.

By making everyone’s first impression of Shang Lu as gentle and obedient, the character would have a more significant subversion and contrast when the movie was released.

On the other side, in Lin Yanyan and Tang Qingqing’s filming crew.

Lin Yanyan successfully secured the lounge she had originally competed for, and Tang Qingqing looked at her, saying, “Can you introduce your cousin to me on WeChat?”

Lin Yanyan smiled and looked at her, saying, “How is it so simple? Let me think about it.”

Tang Qingqing coldly sneered, “You think too much! That guy from yesterday was definitely not your cousin!”

Lin Yanyan showed a fearful expression, “???”

—How did Tang Qingqing figure it out!?

Tang Qingqing continued, “Your cousin doesn’t look anything like you, but he resembles Shang Lu a lot. Besides, everyone knew that Shang Lu visited the set yesterday, but no one knew anything about your so-called cousin. There can only be one truth!”

Embarrassed, Lin Yanyan sat up and said, “Well, actually, he is…”

But Tang Qingqing cut her off, saying, “Actually, he is Shang Lu’s cousin! I’m right, aren’t I?”

Lin Yanyan : “???”

Did Tang Qingqing interpret it that way? It does seem plausible.

Lin Yanyan’s expression became complicated, and she said, “Wow, you’re really smart.”

“Of course,” Tang Qingqing glared at Lin Yanyan fiercely, but she didn’t push further for the contact information of ‘Shang Lu’s cousin.’ Instead, she asked, “Is he your boyfriend?”

Lin Yanyan shook her head vigorously, saying, “I’m single, and so is ‘he’.”

Tang Qingqing’s eyes lit up and then dimmed quickly. But she didn’t say anything more and simply left.

Her relationship with Shang Lu…

It’s vexing.

—Shang Lu definitely wouldn’t agree to let me be her cousin-in-law, right?

Wuwuwu.
