Chapter 284 - Soft Opening Day (2)

"According to supervisor Isaac, we have to patrol in the intersection street too. It was the mayor's current order. I hope no person is there when we get there, officer Kim."

"Hopefully, no troublesome gangs are there, officer Tan."

A police car was roving around the empty streets of district 7. Flashes of bright red and blue color from the top of their vehicle moved along.

Inside were two male officers in their uniforms sitting comfortably. These officers were in their late 20's and were on their usual night patrol.

Out of a sudden, they saw a group of not only ten but a really large crowd of people gathered on the side of the street. They looked at each other and shared a suspicious glance.

"Our hope is crushed! So many people! Officer Kim, do you think there is an ongoing riot in this area? What kind of gathering is this?!" officer Tan who was driving the vehicle questioned his partner. His brows furrowed and he clenched his hands in the steering wheel. He instantly slow down the speed of the car as they traveled along the area.

Before his partner, officer Kim could speak a response to him, he had already caught two familiar faces standing amongst the crowd.

"Are those the leaders of the Double Sigma Fraternity? What bad luck! Are they having initiation right now?" he asked again and decided to park the car just a few meters away from the crowd. In his mind, the group was possibly doing a hazing ceremony for their new members. Such a case was not surprising in the intersection street. The only thing that baffled him was the numbers of crowd gathering. Just where did they get so many new recruits?

With this in mind, he started to feel a throbbing pain in his head. 'If that fraternity would add these numbers of members, we could never discipline them!'

"Perhaps their recruits? But it's already dawn. Are they waiting for something? Someone? Or maybe they want us to witness them to provoke us?  What do you think, officer Tan?" his partner speculated. Given his impression of the Double Sigma fraternity, several unfavorable ideas quickly formulated in his thoughts.

"That could be it. I'll call our supervisor and ask if we should get involved to them or just ignore them," Officer Kim paused and grab his radio.

"Something is not right!" Officer Tan paused as he continued observing the crowd. Then, he continued, "Since when did those frat members started wearing white uniforms? Is this some sort of propaganda?"

In fact, he just noticed that all of the crowd were all wearing the same shirt after scanning the entire crowd with his sharp eyes.

Unbeknownst to them, it was the white T-Shirt uniform of the Chronos company. And those people were waiting for Sofia and her companions to arrive.

Yet, given the history and background of the Double Sigma fraternity, the police officers naturally misunderstood their large assembly.

On the other side, the Double Sigma was also alert when they saw the police vehicle.

"I did not know that police are now patrolling this area? In the past, those cowards would not even dare to take a single step in this area at night!" Derek stated while stealing glances at the police vehicle. He never had a good encounter with them. After seeing their car, he could not help but felt irritated.

"I'll inform Miss Sofia. Let's not cause a scene. This might cause trouble in her plans," Danny calmly stated and dialed Sofia's contact number.

In just two rings, the call was immediately connected.

"Hello... Miss Sofia, I think there is a small problem. I have assembled my members on the side road here in intersection street. But, there is a police car that looked like monitoring us," Danny started with a voice full of concern.

At the same time, the Chronos squad was already riding in one van owned by Clark's family. They had just left from the university road.

"What's the problem?" Sofia softly inquired. Somehow, she was puzzled by what Danny had said. For a moment, she did not thought that there was a problem if the police would go there.

"Ehem! The police are monitoring us. The intersection street is usually not included when they are patrolling. But now, there are here and even parked their car," Danny answered in a cautious tone.

"Ohh... well, I think I have mentioned the safety and security concern of the intersection street to the mayor. That is probably the reason why they are there. Don't worry. You are not doing any illegal activity and they cannot find fault of you by just gathering there," Sofia whispered and did not put much thought about the police. She knew that there was no active curfew in the district 7. So, she was confident that nothing harmful would happen to them.

"Not illegal... But I think...---" Danny contemplated and became silent for a few seconds. He suddenly felt conflicted about their situation. Sofia's unbothered tone was obviously a natural reaction that he did not know whether he should express his anxiety.

In the moments of his silence, Sofia finally reflected the worry in Danny's tone. Of course, how could this infamous fraternity leader not anxious about seeing a police? They had so many bad encounters with the authority in the past! His unease was valid!

"I see it now... Hmmn... No need to be nervous. You are there not as the Double Sigma fraternity but the employees of the Chronos company. The police has no reason to make trouble with you, okay?" Sofia stated.

"Okay, uhhmm... they are really monitoring us. Now, there is the second patrol car parking not far away from us," Danny stated.

"We are almost there. I will talk to them. Don't say any statement or comment that can incriminate you or your frat members. Just tell them that I am on my way and I will explain everything with them," Sofia quickly instructed.

"Okay. I'll do that." Danny said before he ended their conversation.

He was looking at the four uniformed officers that were walking towards them. For a moment, he took a deep breath and slightly nodded at the officers in a polite manner.

"Good morning, everyone! I'm police supervisor Isaac. How are you?" the police supervisor asked. This man was actually instructed by the mayor to monitor the area after Sofia mentioned the safety and security of the intersection street. He quickly deployed two officers to patrol the entire street.

The minute he received the report from his two officers, he instantly decided to possibly settle matters personally instead of letting his officers handle the fraternity.

"Danny and Derek of Double Sigma fraternity, right?" the police supervisor asked again but the entire crowd remained silent and stared at him. Only Danny and Derek nodded their heads.

"Well, care to tell me why is there so many people you have gathered here? It's already morning, this is rather unusual for your members to stay until morning in this street. You are not planning to conduct a hazing in front of us, are you?" the supervisor subsequently questioned. His tone remained friendly and casual even though his questions were somehow sounded like it was an accusation. No matter what, they just don't want to get involve with this fraternity for they have bigger influence in their district.

"Officer, there is no hazing. We are employed in that establishment," Derek finally responded and pointed his index finger to the nearest building in the side. "This will start to operate today. So, we came early," he added.

"All of you are employed?" the police supervisor probed further. He turned around and gave a meaningful glance to his officers behind.

"Yes, sir! You can see that we are wearing uniforms of this establishment. Our boss will be here. If you want to talk with her, she will definitely explain why we are early here," Danny quickly replied.

"We did notice your uniforms. In that case, we are just checking if you are all safe here," the police supervisor stated.

Hearing his words, most of the Double Sigma fraternity members wrinkled their faces and felt extremely awkward. Even Danny and Derek swallowed all their reaction into a big gulp. They had never imagine that a day will come that they would hear a police officer saying those words.

Not long after, a black van pulled over and the police officers quickly recognize the sticker of the vehicle.

"Your boss is the Zhangs?" the police supervisor looked at the two fraternity leaders.

"Well... not the Zhang family. It's them..." Derek trailed while watching as the door of the van opened and five teenagers stepped out of it. Then, Jing Jing's car also arrived and parked behind it.

"Miss Sofia, why is there a police officers there?" Jing Jing yelled from the window of her car. She then took off her seatbelt and hoped out of her car.

The four policemen were quick to march towards them too.

"Officers, good morning! They are our staffs," Sofia greeted and paused. She looked at the crowd and all of them slightly bent their heads in a casual bow gesture. "I'm Sofia and here are my friends... Clark, Stephen, Claire, Joey. This is Jing Jing, our manager," Sofia introduced everyone behind her.

"Ohh... Hello! I am their police supervisor, Officer Isaac. We are here to check if everyone is safe," the police supervisor offered a friendly smiled at them.

"We understand the situation, officer Isaac. I hope we did not cause trouble for gathering here. It's just that, it's our first day of our business operation. And we have to make a quick orientation with everyone first before our customers comes here," Sofia thoughtfully explained.

"First day? Ahhh... now... I kind of remember... yesterday in social media, there is a trending topic that I saw. It's a dining place that will operate today... hehe, cool. No trouble at all, Miss Sofia," the police supervisor easily stated.

"Then, thank you for checking on us. In the future, we will rely on your team for our safety," Sofia said and looked at her employees. "Everyone, let's thank supervisor Isaac and his team for their hard work!" Sofia offered a customary bow to the police officers. With her lead, the frat members forced themselves to follow her gesture and bowed too.

"Thank you.. We will take our leave," Officer Isaac stated with sincere expression on his face and signaled his members to go back to their vehicle.
