CH 14.3

While the wedding was still going on, they whispered on the outskirts of the excited crowd.

“When I was with him, I was very childish. He liked to be clever, clingy, and spoiled. As for me, I have a free spirit.”  When Jiang Ying said this, her voice was calm and she smiled a little.

Yun Xian’s eyes landed on the bride. She looked really sweet and petite.

Jiang Ying sighed softly, “Our personalities were not suitable. It’s natural that we broke. There’s just some regrets.”

Yun Xian asked, “What regrets?”

Jiang Ying replied in such a low tone she rarely used, “Your ex helps you grow up and teaches you how to love. Afterwards, he has nothing to do with you. What happened in the past with your ex is a silver lining. Therefore, timing is very important. There is a saying: you may end up meeting each other later on in life, but you end up loving each other for a long time.”

Yun Xian lowered his eyes and said softly, “I’m lucky.”

Jiang Ying didn’t hear him clearly. She looked at him in confusion and asked, “What are you talking about?”

Yun Xian looked at her and smiled at her, “Nothing.”

After the ceremony, they returned to the banquet dining room. The bride and groom went around proposing toasts with the guests. Jiang Ying finally met Lu Tingyang and his new wife.

He was wearing a neat suit and his hair was meticulously combed with hair gel. He took his wife to Jiang Ying’s table and looked at her. They both smiled.

Their past and their fights disappeared with these smiles.

Lu Tingyang held a wine glass with one hand and introduced them to his wife. “This is my classmate, Jiang Ying. The game you love to play recently is made by her company.”

The beautiful bride looked surprised. “Really?”

Lu Tingyang said, “Yeah, she is the chief planner.”

Jiang Ying smiled and pulled Yun Xian closer. “This is my boyfriend, Yun Xian.”

Yun Xian reached out and shook hands with Lu Tingyang.

Lu Tingyang said, “Nice to meet you.”

Yun Xian replied, “Congratulations to the newlyweds.”

The bride examined Yun Xian, and excitedly pulled on Jiang Ying’s arm. She said, “Your boyfriend’s personality is similar to Jian Ying’s!”

Jiang Ying was surprised and admitted generously, “To be honest, he’s the inspiration.”

If it wasn’t for the other tables waiting for a toast, these two women probably would have liked to meet sooner to chat for a while.

When the bride and groom left, Yun Xian had to curiously ask Jiang Ying, “What did you talk about just now?”

Jiang Ying put a piece of pork into her mouth and vaguely replied, “Just that when I was designing the characters, I used you as inspiration.”

“Oooohh” Yun Xian deliberately dragged it out. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

Jiang Ying choked as she swallowed.

How should I tell him? Back then I thought you were so handsome that I was captivated by you, and anything I drew looked like you?

She continued to chew on the pork and replied with silence. Fortunately, Yun Xian had no intention of going further.

It was almost three o’clock in the afternoon when they came out of the hotel. Jiang Ying asked Yun Xian if he wanted to go out for a walk. Yun Xian readily agreed.

Jiang Ying lived in Shanghai for four years. Every time she came back, she had more places she wanted to go to.

They first went to Nanjing Road, which was full of snack shops. Jiang Ying thought nothing of her high-heels at first. But after walking a lot, she realized that her heels were digging into her.

Yun Xian noticed her abnormal walking and helped her sit down on the bench next to the street.

The heels had dug through a layer of skin. It was bleeding and painful.

Jiang Ying looked at the terrible wound and whispered, “If I had known I wouldn’t have fricken worn this beauty.”

They sat on the bench and looked at the busy street.  She relaxed and her mind started to wander.

Just when Jiang Ying didn’t know where her mind was going, Yun Xian suddenly declared, “I want to confirm one thing.”

She came back and asked blankly, “What is it?”

The cell phone rang. Jiang Ying was about to lift up her cell phone when her wrist was grabbed.

“I’m certain it’s Xiangqin.” After confirming, Yun Xian stopped calling.

Jiang Ying’s eyes widened at the cell phone she was holding tightly in her hand. She questioned with distress, “What are you doing?”

Yun Xian only asked, “Why did you give me this nickname?”

She was caught red handed. Jiang Ying’s brain was working fast, but she couldn’t think of any good reasons. She simply told the truth, “My birthday is Arbor Day, and my surname is Jiang. Shen Xuan always loves yelling Jiang Zhishu, Jiang Zhishu at me.”

Jiang Ying thought of something and cautiously asked, “You should know who Jiang Zhishu is.”

Yun Xian chuckled, “I’m not that old.”

Jiang Ying went on, her voice getting smaller and smaller, “I had a brain fart and gave you this nickname.”

With her back to the light, she could not see the expression on Yun Xian’s face.

Nanjing Road was usually busy. The sun radiated brightly on everything in late spring and early summer.

All kinds of shops were crowded with people, and the firework smoke was curling up to the skies.

After quite a while, Jiang Ying heard Yun Xian say, “Since we are Xiangqin and Zhishu, why don’t we start it with a kiss?”
