CH 20.2

Yun Xian held up the work ID to Jiang Ying’s eyes and replied, “Li Zhicheng gave it to me.”

Jiang Ying looked at him suspiciously. “When did you have such a good relationship with my boss?”

Yun Xian pushed his glasses up and cleared her throat. “I have told you before that I came to Xi City because of a friend. That friend is Li Zhicheng.”

Before Jiang Ying could comprehend these words, Yun Xian continued, “He is my college classmate and my roommate right now.”

Jiang Ying: …

“Then why did you tell me you didn’t know him well?”

Yun Xian poked her forehead. “If I told you that I was your boss’s friend, would you still be comfortable with me?”

Jiang Ying nodded and suddenly brought up something. “Then you didn’t tell him what I said to him behind his back, right?”

Yun Xian chuckled. “Do I look like that?”

Jiang Ying breathed a sigh of relief.

""

Yun Xian’s eyes became fixated on the young man nearby. “But if you try to provoke me again, then I don’t know if I will not snitch.”

Jiang Ying crossed her arms to protect herself and took a deep breath. Why did she suddenly give Yun Xian the upperhand?

She frowned and sniffed to look extremely hurt. “You lied to me first, and now you are threatening me. I know that I’ve made a mistake.”

Yun Xian didn’t know how to react, so he could only pinch her cheeks. “You’re just copying me and putting on a performance, aren’t you?”

Jiang Ying took the chance to put her arms around Yun Xian’s neck and hung onto him. “Then you are not allowed to snitch. Li Zhicheng’s anger is frightening.”

Yun Xian firmly hugged Jiang Ying and was defeated by her flirtatious attack. “There’s really nothing I can do against you.”

After work ended in the evening, Yun Xian and Jiang Ying went down memory lane.

They went on the double deck bus on that same route on the same seat with the song playing on the headphones.

Jiang Ying remembered something and asked Yun Xian, “Why did you kiss me at that time?”

Yun Xian’s eyes went from the busy street to Jiang Ying. It took a long time for him to speak.

“Cherries, oranges, strawberries, roses, cigarettes or wine—I want to know what you taste like.”

The summer sun lingered on the world, and the world was still bright at dusk.

Jiang Ying leaned over with a smile and kissed Yun Xian.

“I have more than one taste.”

——

Yun Xian recently fell in love with making cocktails. One day, Jiang Ying came to Cloudside after work. He was busy in the back kitchen alone, with all kinds of glasses in front of him.

Jiang Ying jumped onto the table to sit, and asked Yun Xian, “Are you tired of running a café  and want to change it to a bar?”

Yun Xian didn’t answer, but took a piece of mint leaf and put it in carefully.

He pushed the glass to Jiang Ying and said, “Try it.”

Jiang Ying carefully lifted the glass. There was a gradient effect: Orange mixed with pink in floating ice, then orange fruit mixed with whisky.

Jiang Ying took a sip with a straw and critiqued, “It’s good, but it would be better if the alcohol was stronger.”

Yun Xian put his arms on the table and leaned on it. He explained, “This drink is called orange sunset.”

Hearing this, Jiang Ying looked and stirred the liquid in the glass. She was joking as she said seriously, “I’ll have to charge the copyright fee.”

Yun Xian smiled and tidied up the glasses on the table. “I plan on adding some alcoholic drinks soon. This is one of them.”

“Cloudside’s business seems to be doing well recently. Every time I come here, it’s full of customers.”

Jiang Ying jumped down from the table and helped Yun Xian clean up. “Boss Yun, why don’t you consider letting me invest? Let’s make money together.”

Yun Xian glanced at her as he wiped the glass and said in a flat tone, “Forget about investing.”

Jiang Ying felt like she was wronged. “I help with the taste test every time there’s a new product! When you said you couldn’t fall asleep, I thought of ways to coax you to sleep! I even painted the mural on the wall for you! *sigh* If I can’t even invest, then I’m at too much of a loss!”

“Oh, it is a bit of a loss,” Yun Xian said when he learned about her reasoning. “Then I can only let you make up for it by being the boss’s wife.”

After a pause, he added, “This is even better, I’ll save on the copyright fee.”

After a long time, Jiang Ying came to a realization and asked, “Did you just propose to me?”

Yun Xian took the glass of alcohol and spent a bit of time adjusting the color.

The bright orange concealed the light pink. It was like the sunset, peaceful and filled with warmth.

Like Jiang Ying.

“Do you like Cloudside?”

“I like it.”

“How about I give it to you as a betrothal gift?”
