Chapter 364 364 - Behavioural Changes

"Fuck, they are running away like rats. Why?" Yue looked at him in shock. Seeing Murong's smirking face, a thought came to mind. "What did you do to them?"

"I have been hunting them for two years now, Yue. After the first year, I noticed that they developed a sense of fear of being captured and killed. You would be shocked to see how much these creatures have developed now."

Yue frowned. he had only met two intelligent zombies before. That was that half-fish man and that zombie king. They had been too busy shooting down them that they ignored analyzing their behavior changes.

"do you think they will develop into humans soon?"

Murong Shao sighed, gazing out the window. "They will gain knowledge but their hunger for flesh is not something we can get rid of. I just hope they don't get too intelligent," he whispered grimly.

"What if there was a cure? We can bring them back then!" Yue hopefully gazed at him.

Murong Shao thought was not that hopeful. He simply shook his head. "The zombies out there are in different states of decay. Do you think they will change back to humans? They are dead Yue… what we must think of is a cure for the living. If we get immune, we will be able to destroy them all."

Yue was skeptical about this as well. He had lived ten years in this world and he had seen no decrease in the zombie population. Not only that, they become stronger as the years went on. The more humans died, the more the zombie population increased.

He was pretty sure that after fifteen years or so humankind would have definitely gone extinct.

As of now he could only hang on and keep themselves alive.

After driving for ten minutes or so they reached an area where the zombies were brave enough to face them.

Murong smile went up a notch. He gazed at him with his brows raised. "Have you ever seen a zombie bring trapped?"

"no…. you seem to be enjoying this."

Murong Shao shrugged. "When you are leaving in four walls you learn to entertain yourself one way or another? I just develop a liking for trapping them. These zombies are just like animals. When you place a bait in front of them, they simply run in."

Yue still had an apprehensive look on his face.

"you'll understand." Musos Shao barely got off the car.

Yue watched in shock as the man simply walked up to one and grabbed it by its neck.. he skillfully twisted it and injected a piece of metal through its brain.

The zombie intently stopped moving.

This was a new method of killing. The zombie's brains were the weakest part he knew of that but the zombie that was fed to lily were all alive.

'is this how he keeps them alive? But how deep should it go?' he watched with rapt attention.

Murong Shao easily captured five of them and dragged them to the back of the trunk. Tossed them in like trash and jumped into the driver's seat.

Yue just gaped at him. "a needle?"

"No this." Murong shao help up his hand and inside was a huge five-inch-wide nail. "When you pierce the part where the spine connects the brain just deep enough you can put them in an unconscious state. They are technically not dead dead, just barely alive."

"Fascinating," Yue smiled up at him.

Murong Shao smirked widely. "These are just level-four zombies. Lilly needs at least level six zombies. Lest drive around a bit."

Yue watched flabbergasted as the man jumped off the car again and again and caught zombies like catching rats. He simply tossed them to the back trunk.

their car drove into an area where the buildings were all destroyed. suddenly Murong Shao's face went serious. "There is a level six around,"

"How do you know." Yue looked at him curiously.

"There are no level fours around here," he poked his head out. "You can always know if the undead has been roaming around or not by looking at the ground. look down, there are no footprints. These inhabited spots usually house a powerful zombie. The lower-level zombies stay out of the range and hunt only the scraps left by the powerful zombie."

To Yue, this sounded like the law of the jungle. The powerful predators get the first bid on the prey. The scavengers take the rest of the corpse.

'We should have explored more into understanding their characteristics.'

he knew why the base did not even give the zombies attention to notice their characteristics. It was because they were overloaded every day with zombies and had to shoot them out before they could do any damage.

But Murong Shao had Lilly, a powerful ability user who could threaten the zombies away. This gave him a safe spot to explore and understand the behaviors of the zombies.

'It's good we came here. If we didn't, we still would not have understood.'

"Have you seen an intelligent zombie before? Level six zombies are very smart. They are typically like a ten-year-old human, curious but vicious."

Yue nodded. "I have met two. One was a half-human and a fish. He seems to know how to communicate. He even helped us when our base's electric power was shut down. The second was the zombie king….. he can control a mass of zombies."

Murong Shao shook his head. "it's not control, Yue. Some level six or higher zombies take in a few lower-level zombies as their lackeys of sorts. To help clean out their prey or to help weaken their prey. These powerful ones don't want to expend too much energy but want to feed. They are fucking smart. If this zombie king has that many zombies under his control that could only mean one thing. He is powerful as heck!"

Yue sighed loudly. "I know…. But his zombie powers could also be a type of coercion, right?'

"Could be, chances are there. We still don't understand these creatures. Soon I hope we can learn them and hit them at their weakest."

Yue silently bit his lips. "I hope so too…."
