Chapter 160

160 An Explosion

Blake really tried his best. He used all that he got left in his body to keep his hand straight in the flying humanoid demon’s direction. But in the end, his maximum effort could only give him so much when his body was forced so badly past his limits.

The second realm darkness bullet spell that had been aimed directly at the center of the flying humanoid demon’s chest deviated from its course and hit the flying humanoid demon’s shoulder instead.

The second realm darkness bullet spell flew so fast that it only took the spell a literal blink of an eye to arrive from Blake’s hand to the flying humanoid demon’s body. Closing any chance for the flying humanoid demon to even react to the spell.

The bundle of high-purity darkness element, and a very abundant amount of it, crashed onto the flying humanoid demon’s shoulder. And in the next moment, the flying humanoid demon’s shoulder until the edge of the right side of his chest had been entirely blown off, chopping off the hand that was attached to it.

An excruciating pain was the only thing that could describe the flying humanoid demon’s current feeling as he released a pained scream filled with suffering.

But the one who was responsible for making the flying humanoid demon come into this state wasn’t able to rejoice at all.

Right after the second realm darkness bullet spell left his hand, all the accumulated focus, strength, and willpower that Blake had gathered instantaneously began to scatter as he reached his goal.

Blake tried to send his nether to his feet to activate the rune formation that he had drawn on the ground, but he overestimated his capabilities as no more nether, not even a drop of it came out of his heart.

Rendering the rune formation that he had drawn with the cost of being surrounded by the mass of humanoid demons useless.

.....

All his strength left his body as Blake fell backward, his feet giving up on supporting his whole body and the dark earth armor.

The only muscle that wasn’t weak enough to keep functioning in his body was his eyelids, keeping his eyes open as he gazed upon the red sky of the demon realm.

His ears were still able to do their job, he heard the screams of pain that belonged to the flying humanoid demon as the second realm darkness bullet hit its target.

However, Blake knew that hearing those screams wasn’t a good thing to happen.

If his target was still able to scream, that means that he had failed to kill it with the second realm darkness bullet spell.

‘That at least made me feel better in failing to activate the rune formation...’ Blake eased himself as he began to consider whether he should close his eyes or open them to enjoy his final moments after losing the huge bet that he had taken.

His original plan was to use the second realm darkness bullet spell, kill the flying humanoid demon with it, activate the rune formation to use the spell to scramble the darkness constructs that had lost its caster, then create a dark earth wall around him and Robus to make sure that his best friend was able to stand properly without receiving any attacks from the humanoid demon hunters after being freed from the binding spells.

However, if the caster of the darkness spells hadn’t died yet, then his spell to scatter the darkness elements wouldn’t work, and Robus would still be bound by the darkness tendrils.

He had taken a gamble, overestimated himself, and he had failed, Blake accepted that fact.

He had also made mistakes in his plan with the humanoid demons, resulting in the current situation happening in the first place, putting his and his best friend’s life in danger.

However, he couldn’t accept that one. He didn’t want to be the one who was responsible for putting Robus’ life in danger because of his foolish decision, he didn’t want that to happen.

He couldn’t accept it, but without even the ability to move the tips of his fingers and not a single drop of nether left in his body, Blake wasn’t able to do anything even if he wanted to.

Best

His heart felt bitter, it was filled with remorse for his actions, annoyance with his foolish decision, and guilt for putting Robus in this situation.

It was all due to his urgentness in trying to get as many souls as fast as possible.

He had come up with a plan, but the plan could be said to be nothing but an effort to make a not so well thought out impulse come to fruition.

He thought that making sure that no one saw the deed he and Robus were doing would be enough to prevent the mass of humanoid demons from coming to him and his gorilla friend.

However, now after he thought about it long enough, and the fact that there were supposedly humanoid demons from deeper realms that had a level of intelligence that were the same or even better than him, Blake realized that his plan was a very poorly made one, only thinking about the short term result instead of the long one.

Just like how you couldn’t steal a few dollars from a large bank that keeps track of everything down to the last cent without being noticed, the same would happen if the humanoid demon hunters that went out never went back after some time.

‘But this kind of ending... I just can’t accept it no matter how many regrets I thought over or how many excuses I made up to make it seem like I tried my best...’ Blake thought in his mind, his brain unconsciously tried to ball his fist, but failed due to how his body lost the ability to move.

The screams from the flying humanoid demon had stopped coming, and it began to change to a series of furious commands to his army of humanoid demon hunters.

“KILL THOSE TWO CREATURES! HACK THEIR BODIES INTO PIECES AND SCATTER THEM ALL OVER THE LAND!”

Upon hearing the command, the mass of humanoid demons began to walk forward and close in on the encirclement, moving closer and closer, making Blake’s ears filled with their every move, without actually being able to see them due to his head being positioned upward and without the ability to adjust it.

*BOOM!*

Just as Blake wanted to prepare himself for what was about to come, a sudden explosion rang out from the forest, silencing every other noise that he heard in his ears.

And just a split second after the explosion, a wave of heat began to hit his body, particularly his face that wasn’t covered by the dark earth armor.
