CH 4

Character creation

It’s good thing that I could resume the character creation… albeit with a bit of a problem.

“The setting for the character’s appearance is…”

『The setting for that item is complete. You cannot modify it from now on.』

“Um, I haven’t checked the appearance of my avatar yet, but at least…”

『Unable to return to the previous step, apologies.』

…Are you kidding?

Normally, you would be able to return later and correct the characters appearance, but the creation assistance AI refused.

Even though I felt a sense of inconsistency within mechanical voice, I gave up, thinking it couldn’t be helped.

“…Haa. Okay, when I find a mirror somewhere, I’ll check it out.”

“Let’s move on to building the initial status.”

『As part of the initial status, 10 base skills can be assigned for each type. You can also freely allocate the points given to the selected skills.』

When the guide AI finished, a small window opened with the number “100” appeared.

“Should I allocate all of it?”

『Yes. You can end the sorting process with points still remaining, but the unused points will disappear, so we recommend allocating them all.』

While listening to the explanation, I opened the list of skills, that can be learned.

“Base Skills” are skills, that determine character status.

“Daily Skills” allow you to receive various benefits in your actions, such as making the navigation of rough roads easier or enhancing natural recovery.

“Mastery Skills” allows you to use weapons and armour more effectively.

“Fighting/Magic Skills” are related to the acquisition of martial arts and magic

“Auxiliary skills” allow you to obtain various combat assistance abilities

“Production skills” ar for gathering, mining, and processing materials in order to create various items.

――It seems that they can be roughly divided into these six categories.

“And there is something that I absolutely have to be careful of.”

Each skill has a certain probability of increasing proficiency, by taking actions according to the conditions, such as carrying heavy loads or dealing damage to enemies etc.

The sum of the proficiency level of the skills acquired this way, cannot exceed the upper limit of ‘1200’. (Bersleid: I hope I got this right… Well we’ll find out later I guess)

However, as an exception, it seems that production skills up to proficiency 30 are counted separately with the upper limit of ‘100’.

This is probably to make it easier for those who use bows and guns to make their own ammunition, or to prepare simple medicines and meals for vanguards for their own use.

“Character levels do not exist.” The so-called “complete skill system” is a game format seen in old MMORPGs.

“Hmm… What if the skill I got here is no longer needed?”

『In that case, by setting [▽ Decrease] in the skill settings, when another skill increases, the set skill will decrease in turn.』

“I see, it takes time and effort, but it’s possible to rearrange the skill composition later on.”

『Yes, that is correct.』

“Then there’s no need to think too hard here.” After reaching the upper limit, you can get back to it again.

“In the first place… all the players are still exploring about what’s good and what’s bad.”

『And since, a special race has been selected for Mangetsu Kurenai-sama, please do not forget to check that as well.』

“I don’t remember choosing, but…”

I muttered my dissatisfaction while confirming the contents.

[Noble Red]

A pureblood who is the progenitor of vampire race, in addition a member of the royal family.

The vampire race is recognisable by their white hair, translucent pale skin, and clear blood-coloured eyes.

They possess a unique magic, called “blood magic”, which can be activated through the blood they have taken in.

Basically, they are naturally occurring, pure-blooded spirits of the night, and they take in human blood, then they are called vampires.

On the other hand, some weaknesses that vampires acquired resistance to by obtaining human blood remain intact, especially low resistance to fire and light, and weak to sunlight, so caution is required. (Bersleid: These two sentences don’t make much sense, so ignore them.)

In rare cases, when a child called “Sub-Pureblood”, which has almost all of the Noble Red’s characteristics, while being mixed with other races, is born, as it grows, it slowly returns to being a pureblood.

“…Vampire race”

Kurenai stared at that sentence with a complicated expression.

“…I’m a vegetarian, though.”

Hearing Kurenai’s whispered words, (s)he could see that the Angel, who had kept a piercing glare, slightly averted her eyes.

“I’m a vegetarian… or rather, I’m not good with bloody things.”

I do make meat dishes for my father to eat, but in most cases, I myself don’t eat them.

“Well, if you don’t use unique magic, there’s no problem… well, maybe next time.”

At this time, Kurenai was optimistic and read through other items description.

The next thing was about the racial characteristics. It looks like you can customize it.

“Pure-blood” and “sub-pure-blood” are selectable. By the way, it seems that it is possible to choose neither.

[Pureblood]

Add the following corrections to the initial basic abilities.

+100 Vitality, Mental Strength, Physical Strength, and Magic Power.

“Shadow magic/dark magic” initial proficiency level set to 50.

Ability to learn unique magic “Blood Magic”.

Disadvantage: Weak to sunlight (strong)

[Sub-pure blood]

Add the following corrections to the initial basic abilities.

+15 to Vitality and Strength.

+30 to mental power and magic power.

“Shadow magic/dark magic” initial proficiency level set to 20.

Ability to learn unique magic “Blood Magic”.

Disadvantages: Weak to sunlight (weak).

*When acting under strong sunlight, each stat is reduced by 20%.

In addition, it seems that +10 correction will be added to her favourite base skill, instead of being able to add her favourite weaknesses from the list made up from various vampire related stories in the world.

Even when I first saw it, I thought, “Why can’t I choose a demerit…”.

However, if you look closely, it seems that this number is added to the base skill, which can only be trained up to 100.

“In other words… it is possible to break through the limits. What’s more, I found out that it doesn’t seem to be counted as part of the total proficiency upper limit of “1200”.

……This is very attractive because it gives you a considerable advantage over others in terms of status, all of whom will eventually hit the ceiling.

“Besides, I just thought that it was great for role-playing.”

“Since it’s a unique race, it’s in a gamer’s nature to want to acquire it, if possible, not only in terms of ability, but also from a role-playing perspective.”

But…

“As expected, but ‘pure blood’, is not even worth considering. Absolutely not.”

Reading through the contents, Kurenai concludes with a sigh.

“It’s certainly powerful.” The extremely high correction value for status is very attractive, but the disadvantage of being weak to sunlight (strong) is just too much.

“Why is it 5% slip damage per second?” At least every 3 or 5 seconds. Isn’t it the same as saying, just die?

……That’s why, even though I am tempted, I go with the sub-blood.

And then… from the weakness selection, I also dismissed “not reflected in mirrors or images”.

――The VR game is in a first-person perspective.

In other words, in order to know your exact appearance, you must have a reflection of yourself in a mirror or some other object.

“So, if you take that away… you will have no way of knowing what you look like.” It’s just sad.

Similarly, “I can’t cross flowing water” and “I can’t enter the building, unless I’m invited” were also dismissed, on the grounds that it would interfere with my daily life. If don’t play it right, you could get stuck in various ways.

In addition, there were various other constitutions that can be seen in vampire stories, but the end result is as you see below.

■ Basic abilities (Base skills)

HP: 400

MP: 165

Vitality (VIT): 10/100 (+15)

Blood magic 50/100↑50

Fall resistance 20/100 ↑20

Natural healing 20/100 ↑20

Total 180/1200

■Characteristics

“Sub-pure blood”

“X: Weak against silver”

“X: Weak against the Bible and the Cross”

“X: Weak against fire (strong)”

*Fire resistance value is fixed at -100 and cannot be corrected with anything other than equipment.

“X: Weak against light attributes (strong)”

*Light resistance value is fixed at -100, and cannot be corrected with anything other than equipment.

I actually wanted to have mastery skills for each weapon type, but… those were put on hold, because they can be obtained if you train with different weapons and magic.

Rather than that, falling resistance that decreases the damage you take from falling from a high place, and natural healing that gives you health, when you take a lot of damage from enemies… It seems like, that taking a lot of damage is essential to improve both. So, I give priority to these ones, that seem to be troublesome to raise.

However, there was “shadow magic”, which I wanted to increase to proficiency 30, so I added some points to it.

The reason why I used a lot of blood magic, was because it was difficult for me to get blood, so it was difficult to increase naturally.

“At the moment, I have no one to compare it with, so I don’t know if it’s strong or weak, but…”

“Well, what can I do?”

After muttering optimistically, the last step was to register the character’s name. As usual, I took the first three letters of “Crimson”, derived from the name “Kurenai” and entered “Crim” and pressed the confirm button.

In an instant, the surrounding dome cracked and shattered. Countless fragments danced glitteringly in the air. Right after that, a dazzling light filled the surrounding――

――When the light gradually subsided and my eyesight eventually recovered.

The hustle and bustle of the bustling city that entered her crimson eyes… wasn’t actually there.

“……Ruins?”

I got up from the place where I was lying…it looked like a sarcophagus. I looked around.

I was in a stone shrine, that has seen better days. It had been left unattended for a long time and now it was in ruins.

More than half of the roof had collapsed… but the blue sky could not be seen through the holes, all you could were the branches and leaves of the trees.

“Um… where is this place?”

According to the instruction manual, players who have finished their character creation procedure, should have been transferred to the starting city called “Wyndham”, the town of beginnings.

However, no matter how you look at it, the sight that spreads out in front of me, is clearly uninhabitable.

Kurenai muttered in a daze… the answer that came back was the eerie cry of a crow.

(AN: I actually considered whether to depict the skill proficiency even after the decimal point, but it would be too complicated, so I ended up with this form.)

(Bersleid: Well, I guess we are going with daily release? Haha, no. I had some spare time so I translated this chapter, the next chapter or chapters will come out on Wednesday. Also, if you decide to comment, don’t put your review here, put it on novelupdates, if you found problems with the translation, that is not unintelligible sentence, please write those below. Oh, and I’m using UK English, so if you see colour instead of color, please don’t complain about it. Hope you enjoyed it.)
