Chapter 169 Trying The New Skill

[Binding process takes 3 hours, during which you cannot use the item skill.]

''Yeah, yeah whatever. ''

In order to try the skill, Raydon bound the item to himself. He began working on the following set piece while he waited three hours for the skill to become usable.

This time, he went back to the forge and used a black iron to craft greaves. Similar to the previous procedure, he processed black iron once more, and after combining it with the necessary elemental materials, he completed the product that would be ready to integrate the skill.

Meanwhile, it had taken slightly over 4 hours to complete all these steps, which was significantly less time than the previous ones.

"It's all good, I'm picking up the speed. '' Raydon was proud of his progress up to this point, and now that he could use the Rusty Chain skill, he decided to give it a try before moving on to the last phase of the crafting process.

''Rusty Chain''

The moment he activated the skill, a gray cloud of smoke emanated from his gauntlets and rapidly condensed into a black chain that measured about 1 meter in length. The most notable aspect of the chain was its appearance, which resembled flames burning on it, albeit gray flames.

Raydon regarded the chain in his hand and remarked, "Doesn't it seem to be a little too short in length?"

It was stated in the skill description that the chain's attack range varies according to the user's stamina, but with Raydon having 60 stamina, it seemed absurd that it only had an attack range of 1 meter.

''Well, let's test it. ''

Without picking any specific targets for himself, he continued and simply swung the chain into the open area in front of him.

*Bang*

''Fuck.''

He had anticipated that the chain would only extend one meter in front of him, but it unexpectedly extended several meters in that direction as he swung and collided with the wall of his dimensional storage.

'So that's how it works, huh? ' When Raydon pulled the chain back, it reverted to its original height of one meter, as if it had never touched the wall of the dimensional storage a few meters away.

''I'm curious how far it can go. ''

After giving it some thought, he got out of his dimensional storage to try again. It was important to him that nothing inside was unintentionally damaged.

Then, holding the chain in his hand, he unlocked his house's door and stepped outside.

"If any normal person saw me like this, they would probably run away in fear," Raydon said, staring at the chain in his hand that was engulfed in a gloomy, horrifying gray flame.

Luckily, no one was outside to see him, as the neighborhood was well aware that an item holder resided there and accordingly avoided the area. Evidently, Dan and his cult were not in the area either.

He paused for a few seconds on the stairwell landing, staring out the window at the street below. After a while, he noticed a trash can that was so full that trash was spilling out onto the ground around it.

"The distance should be about 25 meters. Let's give it a try," Raydon said as he swung the chain.

When the chain swung free from his grasp, it headed straight for the trash can and began to encircle it, eventually coming into contact with the container and setting fire to everything.

''Damn… ''

He tried to yank the chain back quickly out of fear that it would set the neighborhood ablaze. In his eagerness to test out his new skill, he neglected to think about the possibility that the chain's flames might actually start a fire.

However, his fear was unfounded, as the fire quickly extinguished itself after the flames completely consumed the trash can and reduced it to ash. It only left behind a large amount of ash.

''Is this the curse effect described in the skill's description? '' Following some reflection, Raydon came to the conclusion that it wasn't.

Given that this item is of the death type, it is most likely that the ash attribute he possessed increased its curse effect, and it is most likely from there that this burning feature originated.

"Wait, I doubt that just the attribute I possess has the power to alter a skill in this way. Is it because of my new body enchantment? " He pondered.

Alone, the ash attribute was unable to account for this burning effect.

For a brief period, Raydon closed his eyes and made an effort to exert more control over the emotions that had caused the burning sensation in his body. When he opened his eyes once more, the chain he was holding had no flame on it; instead, it appeared to be a regular 1-meter-long black chain.

"Holy crap, this is good. Now that I have this burning effect, I can use any skill as an attack skill, right? '' Raydon was overjoyed that he had discovered Ashen Heart's hidden feature at last.

If the same intensity of heat that he felt in his body was also reflected in his skills, he might be able to use that to his advantage when using his skills in combat. It appears that the advantages and disadvantages associated with Raydon's enhanced Ashen Heart body enchantment were the same.

''I suppose I can find better skills to combine with this ability later,'' He said, and he decided to find a new skill-set that he could use with his body's new ability, so he returned inside and then to his dimensional storage.

He picked up the partially finished greaves and activated a crafting formation to finish the crafting.

When it came time for the final step, he poured black blood once more and began to observe the remainder of the procedure.

When the last of the procedures had been completed, the star-shaped formation had vanished, leaving behind only a pair of greaves.

''Let's see if I wasted another set of items or not,'' Raydon said as he picked up the item and began to examine it.
