Volume 2 - CH 412

9-46. The Reason

While Uchkage remained calm, Alena directed a little bit of killing intent towards Houen. However, Lize grabbed Alena’s shoulder and soothed her.

For her, it was a past she did not want to remember. She had wanted to avoid digging it up, but if there was a connection to devils, she couldn’t just stay silent.

She barely remembered what had happened. While she was talking to Lurimkos, something had started happening to her. She remembered how angry Ouren had become at Lurimkos’s words when she had tried to resist.

“I’m sorry. Alena’s hometown and Uchikage’s hometown… Both were destroyed by devils.”

“I heard that too from Lurimkos. An incident caused by the devils who conspired with slave traders… in the Bamil territory, which is not only Oni’s country but also part of the Garott kingdom, right?”

“Yeah. It’s unlikely that they could have taken down the Bamil territory, which is within the Garott kingdom, with only the slave traders. It’s reasonable to assume that they borrowed the power of the devils. And… this was supposed to lead to a way to stop their revival.”

The destruction of the city. This was what the devils were trying to do. They had openly declared it and were willing to kill people if necessary.

So let’s look at the flip side of this. Their statements were incredibly vague and cryptic. They shouldn’t have to kill people. They shouldn’t have to destroy cities.

But if they didn’t speak this way, the curse would be activated.

“What they’re trying to do can probably be guessed. But I don’t understand the reason for it.”

“To prevent the resurrection of the evil god?”

“No, that’s not it. That’s the ultimate goal. What I don’t understand is the necessity of it. What exactly was planted in the two of their hometowns?”

If they didn’t destroy the city or kill people, the evil god would revive. So what exactly was in that city? The devils attacked places where there were many humans or territories with people anyway.

That was the case this time too. They were trying to manipulate two big countries and cause casualties.

If they could understand this reason, it would be relatively easy to cooperate with the devils. There must be a way to avoid damage and not destroy the city.

“Well, I don’t really understand that… but devils aren’t destroying things or killing people just because they want to.”

“Yeah, I’ve heard accurate information about that from Lurimkos. Oh, by the way, Lurimkos is a Majin.”

“A Majin!? No, they do exist?!”

“Generally, Majin seems to only exist in fairy tales that aren’t real. Anyway, that doesn’t matter. Let’s get back to the topic. For now, we talked about an important part where we might understand the devils’ purpose. If we investigate further, we might find something, so I brought it up. Sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable, Alena.”

“…It’s okay…”

“Thank you.”

“But the conversation isn’t over yet. Up until now, we’ve only talked about the basic plot points that everyone should know. The real topic starts now. It’s about what happened in the Oni village and the relationship between Hiwa and the Oni.”

From here on out, this is where they discovered various mysteries and questions. The incident in the Salettana Kingdom is known by almost everyone here. The devil misled and manipulated the people of the Salettana Kingdom, causing significant damage. When the devil saw the celestial crack in response to the Taoist practice, it changed its attitude. As for Lequam, it didn’t seem to be very relevant, but they would have to talk more about Irza, who knew about the demon crystal, and a lot more.

But for now, they will focus on what they already know.

“Hiwa must have had some kind of relationship with the devils. We already know about the Oni, but we didn’t know about their relationship with the devils until now. But now we do.”

Said Houen, as he placed his hands together and clenched them in front of him.

“The relationship between Hiwa and the Devil is that they are allies in preventing the revival of the evil god.”

“Can you tell us why?”

“First of all, the Devil began calling my skill 【 Immortality】  as rebirth. This means that he has seen the same skill before. In other words, it means that he has seen us fighting. And this is why I am convinced that he is our ally.”

Saying this, Houen took out a book from his magic tool bag.

It was a book he had bought at a random bookstore when he was asked if he wanted to buy something. He had read it all while waiting for Reizen and Uchikage.

It was a strange story about a meaningless war.

There was a big battle, but no one knew why they had fought.

Hiwa had erased all memories except the Devil.

They did not erase those memories on purpose, so that they could prevent the revival of the evil god.

And now, they are carrying out that mission.

For Hiwa, the Devil was a trustworthy ally, a comrade-in-arms who helped prevent the revival of the evil god.

“Furthermore, the contents of this book… It’s the same thing that the Devil is doing now.”

“Wha…! That’s right…!!”

It was written here that the Devil had conquered one human country after another.

They are not doing the war exactly as written in the book now, but they are doing almost the same thing.

Destroying cities and killing humans.

Maybe in the era of Hiwa, they had no other choice, but their true intentions were not known.

“It’s natural for Hiwa to confront them, considering their relationship with the Oni worked, they managed to cooperate with the Devil, and somehow they were able to prevent the revival of the evil god.”

“Then, if we do the same thing as written in the book, will it work?”

“That’s right. But that’s not the intention.”

There will be a terrible number of casualties.

That was something they wanted to avoid.

“Let me talk about the Akki for a moment.”

“About Akki here? Why now of all time?”

“There was something I was wondering about. Sorry, this is purely speculation, but please listen.”

When they saw Houen’s serious expression, no one dared to interrupt.

Everyone waited quietly for him to speak.

Before that, Houen created flames in both his hands, one large and one small.

“Why are the places where the Akki live separated?”
