CH 69.1

The Torquiva dungeon meat bubble is still ongoing as spring thanksgiving is just around the corner.

The headquarters of the Magical Schenker Group, which normally serves as a window for dispatching manpower, is now, on the contrary, swarming with people who have come to work at the meat processing plants or to carry cargo.

We have not yet received a response from the military headquarters regarding our meat but we did receive a positive response from the army garrison near Torquiva saying that they would be willing to purchase the meat if we had a big enough quantity.

We are now sending a carriage load of sausages for evaluation and waiting for the other party’s decision.

So, business is going well in some areas but of course, there are also many areas where things aren’t going so well.

Like the shortage in manpower.

Due to the rapid expansion of the business, the size of our organization that we have maintained so far is no longer sufficient to handle all the work.

It’s almost like a death march and it’s making it very difficult for Boss Chicken to do business.

The only way to solve the root of the problem is to get labor from elsewhere.

The Schenker’s headquarters was not crowded with prospective workers and the streets were even overflowing with them.

I told them to gather as many slaves as they wanted but what happened was that they gathered more slaves than the slavers could hold. Perseus, the old slaver I’m acquainted with, brought them here especially for me.

They were all men, from a red-faced boy to an old man who looked like he had already taken a step into a coffin.

「This Perseus has been waiting for Sawadi-sama’s for a thousand years. The time when you buy slaves regardless of gender or status.」

「You’re exaggerating. However, how did you manage to gather so many in such a short period of time?」

「No, I did not. The people gathered here are those who have been looking forward to Sawadi-sama’s call for years.」

「Eh? For years? You know that slaves are people, right?」

Slaves are basically taken to a place where they can be sold in a short period of time.

It was ludicrous to wait for so many years.

「This Perseus, for this day and time, has kept the male slaves that this one thought would be good on your hand. Others have been waiting to be bought by Sawadi-sama and were helped by either their savings or their relatives……」

「I see. Thanks for that. However, since they can afford to wait that long, shouldn’t it be better for them to get some treatment? I heard there are places that accept as little as ten gold coins.」

You can even meet healing mages in the street. They are the types who weren’t able to become noble and didn’t choose to go to war.

「Ten gold coins are something that commoners must work for several years to save. Also, mages have their ups and downs too. Depending on their mood, meeting them is either a blessing or a punishment. 」

「Is that so?」

「That’s how it works. It has been five years since you came to buy that skinny centaur and the trust in you has developed since then. Given the reputation you’ve built up, these men were brought together.」

「It’s nice to be trusted but some of them are too old. Can they even work?」

「I’m glad you asked. Actually, the highlight of today’s show are these old and powerful men.」

「No, I don’t think they are old and powerful. They are more of old geezers….」

Some of them obviously have vague expressions on their faces and some of them are slumped over and can’t get up. Are you sure they’re what I need?

Perseus, ignoring my doubt, tapped the shoulder of a toothless old man with shoulder-length gray hair that was on the front.

「This one is the former steward of the former Baron Etios. He lost his job when the baron’s family line had been severed. He has a heart disease and went here upon hearing about Sawadi-sama.」

The toothless old man was a bit shabby but he certainly looked sharp with a clear look in his eyes.

「If you’re planning to use Chicken as your steward or head vassal in the future, she must have systematic knowledge about how things work. You should leave her education to this man.」

「I see. An educator. I had not thought of that.」
