Chapter 79

79 Midnight Snack

As she walked into the office, Zhang Li Xue began to wonder why she trusted this young doctor this much to follow him to his office.

The hospital was dark and everyone was sleeping. If something happened to her, then, wouldn’t she have to suffer? Moreover, she was still a patient. Even if she wanted to fight, she did not have the energy for it.

Zhang Li Xue stared at the doctor’s broad back with a dazed look on her face.

Perhaps, the reason she trusted him was that Doctor Bai was a student of her Uncle Qi Zheng. However... Zhang Li Xue could not shake off this strange feeling. Each time she looked at Doctor Bai, she would get this sense of familiarity.

“Just take a seat here.” Bai Qi pulled his chair over to let her sit down. He looked at the documents on his table and quickly gathered everything. He had just finished writing some reports and there were some documents scattered on his table.

He piled everything to one side but the papers fell and scattered on the floor.

A helpless sigh escaped him. Bai Qi quickly crouched down to pick up the documents on the floor. Noticing that the girl wanted to help him, Bai Qi quickly stopped her.

???????????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????????????????? ???????? ????????????????????-????????????.????????????

“Don’t.” Bai Qi waved his hand. “You just got out of an operation. Just stay there quietly.”

Seeing that he was clumsily picking up his papers made her giggle. The flustered look on his face made her feel more at ease.

.....

“Sorry. I don’t always get a guest in my office,” Bai Qi explained.

“That’s alright.” Zhang Li Xue sat down and looked around the place. Although there were a lot of documents and paperwork on his desk, the place was very clean. She scanned at his belonging on the desk, but could not see any photo on his desk.

Fortunately, it didn’t take him too long to pick up the documents. When he looked up again, his little fairy was smiling brightly at him.

He couldn’t help but want to hide his face. Bai Qi stood up and quickly turned around to the rack beside him. He looked at the snacks he kept in his drawer. “I have some cookies, instant oats, and some energy bars. Which one would you like?”

“Doctor Bai, it seemed that you have a lot of snacks stored in your drawer.”

Bai Qi coughed. “They were very convenient whenever I’m in a hurry.”

“I’ll take anything you give me,” Zhang Li Xue said. “At this time, I could even finish a bowl of salad.”

For someone who did not like to eat vegetables that much, eating a bowl of salad would mean that she was famished. Of course, Bai Qi, who did not know about her eating habit would not understand her words.

After pondering for a while, Bai Qi took out some packets of cookies as well as the energy bar. “You can eat this first. I’ll make you some oats.”

Zhang Li Xue looked at the food that he prepared and thought that the snack prepared were all the healthy kinds. Usually, these were not something she liked to eat, but she was too hungry and did not have much choice.

Fortunately, the taste wasn’t that bad.

Just as she had finished a pack of cookies, Bai Qi put a mug of instant oat in front of her. “This should help you to warm your stomach. Just eat a little bit.”

The smell made her stomach grumble. Zhang Li Xue grabbed the mug and took a spoonful of the instant oat. Surprisingly, the temperature was just nice. She swallowed the food in a few mouthfuls.

When she peeked into the mug again, Zhang Li Xue was surprised to find it empty.

The person who downed the food was not her, right?

She stared at the mug for a long time, wondering if perhaps she was possessed by a hungry ghost.

But the thought scared her and she started to shiver.

“Does it taste good?”

“Un.” Zhang Li Xue nodded. For the first time, Zhang Li Xue thought that a mug of instant oat would taste this delicious.

“Then, do you need more food?”

“No. It’s alright.” Zhang Li Xue waved her hand. “I think it’s enough. If I ate a little more, then I wouldn’t be able to sleep.” She rubbed her tummy and sighed in contentment. After eating the oat, her tummy felt a lot warmer and more comfortable.

Bai Qi chuckled. “Then, do you want to go back to your wardroom?”

Thinking that her mother was still sleeping in the room, Zhang Li Xue quickly agreed. It would be better if she returned before her mother woke up. Otherwise, her mother would worry.

Knowing that a certain someone was scared, Bai Qi walked Zhang Li Xue until she reached her room.

When they arrived, Zhang Li Xue put a hand on the door and turned around. The surrounding was dimly lit. Zhang Li Xue stared at the man for a long time without saying a word.

After watching him for a long time, the sense of familiarity returned. However, she couldn’t put out her fingers on it.

“Is there something on my face?” Bai QI touched his cheek. Zhang Li Xue’s stare was making him feel slightly awkward.

“No.” Zhang Li Xue shook her head and smiled. “Doctor Bai, I just want to thank you for your midnight snack. Hmm... How about this? Next time, I will treat you to something good.”

Bai Qi was about to decline her invitation. However, as he recalled that it would be difficult for him to find time to be around her, Bai Qi quickly changed his mind.

“Then, I will be waiting.” He watched as the girl smiled brightly before turning to her room.

A deep sigh escaped him.

When Zhang Li Xue had stared at his face for a long time, Bai Qi had thought that perhaps, the girl had started to remember him. He could not help but to hide his disappointment when she did not recognize him.

Twenty years ago was definitely a long time ago.

He shouldn’t be too disappointed, right?

After all, the current him was not someone who could get close to her...

Lowering his gaze, Bai Qi turned around and returned to his office. There are still a few hours before the sun would come out. He should get a few hours of sleep. Later, he still needed to send his little sister to kindergarten.
