Chapter 648 Four Pillars: Exploring Further

Thud. Thud. Thud.

Continuing to walk through the path he had chosen, Valyr kept [Hunter's Tracking Eyes] activated at all times as he constantly looked around his surroundings.

Though the pitch-black circles in his vision continued to move about, the young man did not come across any creature at all. If anything, the corridor he had entered was just a smaller version of the large corridor he had arrived at.

Then again, unlike the large corridor, which had multiple openings that led to other smaller paths, this corridor instead had multiple openings on its walls that led into small rooms.

Every once in a while, he would stop by one of the openings and enter one of the rooms, bringing up the large exposed room he had come across in the large corridor earlier in his mind.

Comparing the two to one another, the large exposed room was laid out in a way that resembled a modestly sized house. There were stairs that led to the higher floors, as well as initially closed-off rooms that were filled with personal amenities.

On the other hand, the small rooms he explored were laid out similarly to one person apartments in his past life, with all of the amenities arranged in a way that all would be easy to access.

Continuing to look through more of the small rooms he had come across, another plausible thought eventually surfaced into Valyr's mind. 'Could this perhaps be an underground housing complex?'

As the thought came to mind, the young man thought that it made quite a lot of sense.

After all, judging from the architecture and the layout of the buildings that made up the city ruins, Valyr imagined that all of the people that were able to live in those buildings had to have a lot of money to their name.

While thinking about this, he recalled the few times he had explored the west quadrant while fighting against the primitive humanoids.

'Hmm...' Going through the layout of the west quadrant in his mind, Valyr eventually frowned, noting that almost of the buildings in the city ruins were mid to high-rise buildings.

Of course, there were also a couple small buildings here and there, but with how those buildings occupied quite a considerable size of land, the young man quickly assumed that those were the homes of the incredibly wealthy.

'If this is indeed an underground housing complex, then the layout makes quite a lot of sense,' thought Valyr to himself at some point, feeling that he might come across another large corridor later on.

Though, as the thought came to mind, the young man briefly had a wry smile on his face, thinking as to how long it would take for him to explore the entirety of the Dimlight District if the large corridor he had landed himself in already had so many corridors.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

Just as Valyr was about to resume walking through the path he had chosen, the young man immediately stopped in his tracks after hearing a series of footsteps faintly echo from afar.

Then, not long after, the footsteps echoed once more.

Only this time, they were considerably louder than before.nove.Lb.1n

'Are there people still living here?' asked Valyr to himself, faintly shaking his head as he found such a thought highly unlikely.

However, that did not mean it was impossible.

Slightly increasing the intensity of the flame he had conjured to allow him to see further into the distance, Valyr decided to continue walking once more.

Though, now that he had obtained signs that there might be other people still living within this underground area, he made sure to decrease the amount of noise he made as possible, even going so far as to use the element of Wind to cushion his every step.

"I really don't want to disturb them, but at the same time, I'm very curious to find out how these people survived for so long," murmured the young man as he thought out loud.

'Then again, with how the primitive humanoids have occupied the four quadrants, it wouldn't be surprising if the footsteps I heard actually came from primitive humanoids that found themselves underground.'

Deciding to not to dwell on the matter any further, Valyr continued to walk through the relatively narrow path, still stopping every once in a while to get a sense of what the underground area's purpose was.

However, unlike before, where all of his attention was focused towards the entire underground area, the young man also took a look at the pitch-black circles that moved in his vision from time to time, keeping an eye to see if any of them was moving toward him.

And eventually, one did.

Noticing that one of the pitch-black circles in his vision was incredibly near to where he currently stood, Valyr swiftly reduced the output of the conjured flame to where it was barely enough for him to see the surroundings.

Then, taking in a deep breath, he began to move towards the source of this pitch-black circle as multiple thoughts began to race in his mind.

Would he come across a human that had miraculously survived in this place for who knows how many years?

Or would he come across an unlucky primitive humanoid that had inadvertently fallen to this underground area at some point in the past?

With such thoughts going through his head with every passing second, it was no surprise that the young man was left at a loss for words after finally seeing the source of the pitch-black circle in person.

For the answer to any of his previous questions was neither.

Though the being that stood before Valyr passively exuded an aura that reminded him of the primitive humanoids, the being before him did not have the bestial instinct the primitive humanoids had to charge at him the very instant they noticed his presence.

If anything, the current actions of the being before him were the exact opposite of the primitive humanoids, instead looking at Valyr with great curiosity in its eyes, as well as a hint of fear deep within.

Aside from that, the being resembled actual humans quite a lot, with the only exceptions to that being the fact that its complexion was as a white as a sheet of paper, and the fact that its nails on its hands and toes were unnervingly long.

Briefly gazing at the piece of dirtied cloth that wrapped around its waist, Valyr went ahead and used [Superior Analysis] on the being to find out what he was dealing with.

Only for the answer the system gave him to be way beyond even his wildest expectations.
