Chapter 165 Plan B

It was not until late evening that the last of the defenders fell back from the wall, leaving it open to attacks. The enemy rushed through it like waves crashing over a sandbar. It wouldn't be long for the city gates to open wide and the goblins to pour into the streets, killing indiscriminately.

"They're coming!" someone shouted. "Run! Run for your lives!"

A mob of creatures surged out of an alleyway, running towards the main street. Despair flickered in their eyes as they saw the walls towering above them. Inside the city walls that they thought they were safe, it became their prison. There was no escape.

Anguish was written on their faces as they ran. They were no longer warriors but terrified civilians who had been caught up in the battle. A few of them looked like they'd been wounded, and others were limping or dragging themselves along with their arms. Some even had blood dripping down their legs.

Hopelessness filled their eyes as they saw what lay before them. They were too late to save their loved ones or escape with their own lives.

Spears and daggers thrust from behind the retreating inhabitants and players alike, piercing their chests, pinning them against the wall. Somebody rolled down the cobblestones and came to rest at the feet of another inhabitants, and chaos followed next when the goblins poured like cascading waters into the town.

The goblins ran up to the dead and tried to pull their blades free. Their hand slipped off the shaft, but they managed to yank it out of the corpses. Then they raised it high above their head and charged forward.

They were met by soldiers on the foot of the stairs, who hacked at them with their swords.

"Barricade all entrance from the battlements!

Barricading the entrances wouldn't do much. I thought as I planned my next move.

"What do we do?"

I heard one of the guards ask.

"We fight," another replied. "If they get past us, then this town will truly be over."

The goblins came closer and closer. Dozens of them raised their sword high above their head and brought them down on one of the guard's neck. He fell to the ground with a gurgling sound.

"No!" the others cried, raising his own weapon against the goblins. But he, too, was cut down before he could strike. There was a loud crack as his skull split open. Blood spurted out of his mouth as he fell dead to the ground. The rest of the goblins closed in on him and began tearing at his flesh.

"Stand your ground!" said another soldier. "We are the last line of defense. If we cower here, then it's the end of this town!"

The remaining soldiers all ran forward, fighting side by side. They quickly killed dozens of goblins and turned their attention to the next group. More and more of the goblins came pouring out of the alleyways, some of them carrying weapons, others just holding rocks and clubs.

"There is no end to them," said one of the defenders. "What are we going to do?"

"We're dead anyway. Then let's die a heroic death!"

Augh . . . they might want to die, but I wasn't.

The defenders fought bravely, but there were too many of the attackers and it wouldn't take long for them to fall to their death.

There were a few goblins who attacked me as well, but Lucy swiftly took care of them. However, it was growling because it didn't like goblins' blood.

<Host, is still calm despite the situation>

Well . . . I always have a plan B.

On cue, a notification rang in my ears.

[Dementia: My Lord, your orders will arrive shortly. According to your wishes, the two potions I brew are very potent and very . . . expensive.

I expect my payment double every day that you can't pay

Love,

Dementia]

I stifled a laugh.

[Me: Don't worry, my dear Dementia. I will bring you a lot of gifts and so much more . . . expect my return in a few days ]

There was a noise of a raven that pulled me to look over the horizon. The black bird circled above me before it went straight into my chest and disappeared with feathers ruffling all over the ground.

[ACQUIRED!

❶ Battle Hardened Wall

A drop of this potion will make any walls increase its defense. These walls couldn't be broken with any force or any spells. They couldn't be climbed or breached from any side.

Last: 1 hr.

Cost: 10 players

❷ Double Edge Rage

This vial will double your stat in one go.

But be warned. This potion is double edge sword. Once it lost its effect, be ready to suffer a world of pain for five minutes enough that you would rather die than suffer this kind of pain.

Last: 5 min.

Cost: 50 players ]

<Is Host planning to save all this people and kill the Grendelkin?>

I smirked. I'm not that noble. You should know that by now.

I would have asked Dementia to brew something that would kill a Grendelkin in one blow. Or something that would make thousands and thousands of goblins retreat.

She could make those potions, but it would take days. And I didn't have days. In a matter of hours, the only potions she could brew immediately were these two potions.

No matter.

This was all that I needed. I thought as I slipped past the chaos and went to back to the battlement.

I didn't have to worry about this Goblins . . . yet. They could climb inside, but their numbers would only be in the hundreds, more or less. They wouldn't be able to attack in overwhelming force because a great part of their number was still climbing the walls.

Thomas could protect Amara from these Goblins if it was only a hundred of them, so I hurried to the battlements, killing every Goblin that barged my way.

Using the narrow castle walls walkway, the Goblins wouldn't be able to pincer me from behind unless some goblins would start taking the stairs behind me, which I doubt because they were busy murdering everyone in town.

Even if they were unintelligent creatures that acted on pure instinct to murder, I didn't see any 'instinct' in retracing their steps back in here.
