Chapter 110 The Day Mateo Smith Destroyed Frono FC

"That could have been Darwin Shaw's hat trick of the night but Dave Richards did so well to deny him," Steve said.

Unique FC fans in the stands were applauding the goalkeeper after witnessing that wonderful save from him and some of them were even chanting his name now.

Frono FC players had returned to their side of the pitch as Dave had hugged the ball for quite a while so there was no way they could start a counter attack but that wasn't necessary given the fact that they were still leading.

This was all part of Dave's time-wasting technique.

After a few minutes of hugging the ball on the floor pretending to be somewhat hurt, the goalkeeper got up from the floor and rolled the ball to Roland.

'With eighty-nine minutes on the clock.' Dave replied, looking up at the clock.

Seven minutes had been added to the time after it hit ninety minutes and in the third minute of that added minute, Unique FC won a corner kick on the right corner-kick spot.

"Unique FC have been gifted a wonderful opportunity to double their lead with four minutes of added time left before the match comes to an end," Jim said.

Ferran stood over the ball waiting for the referee's whistle as the players from both teams ran around in the box.

It didn't take long before the referee blew his whistle as Ferran closed his eyes and opened them before crossing the ball into the box.

The ball was nodded back by Ahmed and fell to Mateo's feet at the edge of the box.

"Clearance but it's fallen to the feet of Mateo Smith now," Jim said.

Two defenders quickly rushed toward the winger to try and bring him down with a tackle but he quickly stretched the ball a little to the left with his left foot to avoid them before drilling it low toward the goalpost with his left foot.

"Mateo!"

The goalkeeper dived toward the ball but it wasn't enough to take care of it as the ball deflected on the tip of his gloves and hit the crossbar before falling into the goalpost.

"Oh, my goodness! He's done it again!" Jim exclaimed as the winger took off to the sidelines to do a sliding celebration with the fans chanting his name.

"They have surely won the game now," Steve said.

"Yeah!!" Ferran yelled as he rushed toward Mateo and fell on his body along with his other teammates.

Dave couldn't help himself as he rushed to the area to join his teammates to celebrate the goal.

"He's going home with the match ball now, that's his second hat trick of the season and also his second career hat trick," Steve said.

"I told you guys not to be too fast in defending against him!" Emerson yelled at his teammates. "He's been using your fast-defending techniques against you, was that so hard to figure out?"

"How are we supposed to come back from two goals in a short amount of time?" Ahmed muttered.

"There's no way," Seth said before turning his gaze to Unique FC players. "They've already won the match, the mistake has already been made."

"I think after tonight, this game will go down in history as the day Mateo Smith destroyed Frono FC," Jim said.

The game resumed with a minute of added time left and just before that time could be exhausted, Frono FC won a freekick right at the edge of the box as Seth was brought down under a nasty challenge from Jonas that resulted in him getting shown a yellow card.

The referee was supposed to end the match but he decided to wait for Frono FC to take their free kick.

"Whatever the outcome of this freekick may be it won't matter as Unique FC will still emerge victorious," Jim said.

"Yeah, but it can be a boost of stats to someone," Steve said.

Seth stood over the ball waiting for the referee's whistle and as soon as he heard it, he raced toward the ball and floated it over the wall of players toward the top right-hand corner.

Dave was glued to the spot as the ball hit the crossbar and fell over for a goal kick.

"Oh, he's missed it," Jim said.

The referee blew his whistle twice to bring the game to an end as Unique FC players, coach, staff, and fans began to jump up in jubilation.

Seth quickly made his way to Mateo as soon as the match was concluded.

"Hey, congrats." He said as soon as he stopped in front of the young winger.

"Thanks, you guys fought hard but I guess today was our day," Mateo said.

"Yeah, I knew you were going to score but I never expected you to score thrice," Seth said.

"I found the spaces and used them to my advantage."

"Yeah, do you mind a shirt swap?" Seth requested.

"Sure, I was even about to ask you," Mateo said before quickly pulling off his shirt as Seth pulled off his.

The two exchanged their shirts and shook hands with a little brotherly hug before parting ways.

At some point, it looked like Unique FC had no chance of winning the match but with the introduction of Mateo Smith and Christian Merino, things seemed to have turned around and in no time, the team's magician turned the tides with a wonderful hattrick." Jim said. "The match ends Frono FC two, Unique FC four."

The match ball was handed to Mateo by one of the officials just as he walked out of the pitch and then walking further down, he was handed the man of the match trophy before he was taken toward the board to take the official man of the match photo.

Dave received the message as he walked down the tunnel but he didn't care and continued his walk down the tunnel with a bright smile on his face.

"Nice saves bro."

"You were really clutch today."

The goalkeeper was greeted by his teammates and the staff as he made his way toward the locker room.

"I would really love to continue seeing this version of Dave Richards," Norman said before giving him a pat on his back.

Dave entered the locker room to find his teammates singing songs of celebration, the win was worth the celebration given the fact that they would automatically qualify for the UEFA conference league if Lesica United loses their match tomorrow.

He joined them to sing and after a few minutes of singing, the players began to pull off their kits and that was when Mateo entered the room with his awards and Seth's shirt in his hand.

"Hey, I thought you were supposed to be doing the post-match interview," Dave said.

"Don't worry, Merino's doing it." He said before walking closer to the bench to drop the things he was holding.

"When will you ever do a post-match interview?" Ferran said with his phone in his hand.

"I was going to do it but Merino was already doing it before I finished taking my official man of the match photos." The winger said, pulling off his boots.

"You were really clutch tonight," Dave said.

"Thanks and you too." He turned his gaze to him before turning it back to his boots.

"Hey, Mateo, do you know that you just broke a Bilbeth Premier League record?" Ferran asked, turning his gaze to the winger.

He was going through his phone and that was when he came across the information.

"What record?" Mateo asked.

"Fastest hattrick," Ferran said before turning his gaze back to his phone. "The record was previously held by Ricky Gates, he completed a hattrick against Terrevile City in thirty-one minutes. You just broke that record today by scoring a hattrick against Frono FC in seventeen minutes."

"You didn't just break it, you broke it with a great margin," Minino said.

"Yeah," Ferran said.

"I think tonight will go down in history as the day Mateo Smith destroyed Frono FC," Dave said with a smile on his face.
