Chapter 389 Surprise At Home

After that goal from Fredinho to give his team a two-goal lead, the match continued, but it didn't take long before the referee blew his whistle to bring the match to an end as the six minutes of added time had already been exhausted.

"There's the whistle it is all over, Unique FC have done it again, three points secured from the first three matches of the group stages, they have turned out to be underdogs of this group considering how everyone labeled them as the less likely to make it out of the group." Jim expressed.

"Yeah, it's crazy how they dominated the first phase of the group stage, Villarreal and Lazio couldn't even get two wins as their match today ended with a draw, Lazio is only in second place with goal difference and West Ham United is still at the bottom of the table with their chance of getting to the top two being very slim." Steve articulated.

This was a nice victory for Unique FC and the players were all smiles now as they greeted the fans who were even more hyped up than they were.

"Even in this position, Unique FC can still get overthrown by both Lazio and Villarreal if they lose all of their next matches but I can't really see that happening, Lazio and Villarreal will be the ones fighting for a qualification spot, and depending on how things turn out, West Ham United may even have a chance so it's not all over yet."

The Man of the Match award was given to Fredinho as expected.

He did quite well in that left-wing position with all the chances he created and was the one who got the equalizer and the closing goal for his team so it was well deserved.

Dave and Mateo weren't able to meet up with Emma because she was already doing her job by the time they started heading down the tunnel.

"So, we'll be going to England in the next two weeks to face them again. Cool, it will be my first time in West Ham." Dave said as he made his way down the tunnel alongside Mateo.

"We've been there once," Mateo said.

"Huh? When was that?"

"We went for a vacation there once, they said July and August was the best time to be there and then went ahead to take us there in December."

"Oh, so a family vacation, how long ago was that?" Dave asked.

"I was only twelve and my sister, thirteen."

"Oh, that's quite a long time ago."

"Yeah, well, West Ham is cool but I didn't really enjoy the vacation there."

"Why?"

"Compared to Unique City, the weather there is freezing cold during this upcoming season but I guess the Christmas there was way more enjoyable compared to the ones we had here at home." The winger expressed.

Usually after a match, he wouldn't be able to talk this much but because he didn't get to play that much, he was in the mood for a chat.

"Yeah, that's because Unique City is directly in the heart of the island, if you go to any of the cities near the coast like Frono City, there's a chance that you can freeze to death if you're not careful." Dave expressed.

"Freeze to death?"

"Yeah, you can ask Clark for a detailed explanation if you want one."

"No, I don't think I need an explanation." He said before shaking his head.

As the two got closer to the locker room, they could hear the loud noise coming from it and by the time they walked into the room, they could see what was causing all the noise not that they wouldn't have guessed it.

Minino was running around the room like a maniac and just like always, he had some other players to join him for his wild locker room celebration ritual.

If Norman had not taken the drink he brought into the locker room before the game, the whole floor would be covered with alcohol now.

Normally, Adolf would have just ignored them but this time they were just too loud.

"Hey, Minino, you know we haven't even qualified for the knockout stage yet!" The captain yelled to get through to him.

"Yeah, but we just need to win one more match or draw two or all of them for that to happen so in my eyes, we're already there!" Minino yelled back.

"Hmph, Minino running around making noise, what's new?" Dave muttered as he made his way to his locker and sat down on the bench there.

Minino had to calm down after Norman came in to speak to them and after that, they spent some more time there before they all decided to start heading back.

"Alright everyone, see you all on Monday!" Minino yelled before opening his car.

"Um…we have a training session on Saturday, Friday's our only day off," Roland said.

"I know that, what do you take me for? A fool?" Minino said before shooting him a soul-piercing stare.

"Um…no, I was just making sure you haven't forgotten," Roland said with a little stutter.

"Well, I haven't." The midfielder said before he entered his car and slammed the door shut.

Dave's house was the closest to the stadium so he was going to be the first person to get home but he had no idea of what was waiting for him at home.

Nothing seemed strange as he got closer to his house, that was until he got to the front of his garage where he usually parked his car to see there were about seven people there.

"What the heck is going on?" He muttered as he drove into the area.

He had to drive slowly to give the people time to clear out and they did clear out for him to park his car properly.

<Perhaps stepping out from the car isn't a good idea> Catherine said as soon as he placed his hand on the door.

'I wasn't about to open it.'

Dave didn't want to leave because he wanted to understand what was going on first and while he was contemplating on whether to roll down the glass a bit and ask some questions, the seven people he saw earlier suddenly turned to about twelve and some of them were pressing themselves against the window now.

Some of them had jerseys with markers while some of them were screaming something from outside that he couldn't hear.

<I told you this was bound to happen sooner or later>

'Hey, you never said that.'

<I kept giving you hints, for a player of your level, living in a house without a proper fence is no longer safe>

'Yeah, they'll get tired and leave once it gets dark, right?'

<Yeah, that would make sense but I doubt it>

'Huh?'

<Hey, Emma just entered the area>

Emma had just walked into the area at that moment and was surprised to see all those people there around Dave's car.

"What is going on here?" She asked as she walked closer to the area.

"And who are you?" One of the boys asked.

"Hey, don't you know her? That's Dave's wife, the reporter." One of the girls said.

"Are you for real?"

"Yeah."

That was enough to pique the interest of some of them as they slowly began to make their way toward her.

"Hey, calm down, you all don't have to come toward me like that," Emma said as she slowly moved back.

Before they could get close to her, Dave quickly rushed out of his car, locked it, and made his way to her.

He pushed through the people to get to his wife and as soon as he got to her he grabbed her by her arm and dashed through the hedge of flowers to get to the door.

None of them were able to keep up with him and by the time they got to the door, he was already inside and the door was back to being locked.

Emma's breathing had become a bit paced now but Dave didn't look like that took anything out of him.

<I wasn't expecting you to act that fast>

'She's pregnant, so, of course, I had to act fast.'

"Are you okay?"

"Yeah, thanks to you." She said before letting out a deep sigh. "I thought it couldn't get worst from the letters from yesterday but I guess I was wrong."

Dave didn't say anything and just turned away from her before bringing out his phone from his pocket.

"Where're you going?"

"I just want to give Clark a call."

"Oh."

After Clark picked up the call, he explained everything to him as calmly as he could and Clark didn't even sound surprised listening to all of it.

"You know I'm quite surprised this didn't happen earlier."

"Huh?"

"I knew as you grew in fame, that house would become a headache to live in but don't worry, I've got you covered."

"You do?"

"Yeah, when have I not got you covered?"
