Chapter 63 62 - An Unexpected Visitor
When hearing the knock on the door, Milo opened it to find Maria standing in the hallway. He was confused as to why she would come to visit him after just having returned from closing a gate together.
"Can we talk?" she asked.
After agreeing, Milo and Maria made their way down to the square in the middle of campus, while on the way the pair talked about their experience in the gate and Maria talked about how powerful Milo was. Milo couldn't help but feel proud that someone from a prestigious family had recognized his strength.
After walking around the square a bit, Maria asked Milo if he was hungry and after saying he was, she and Milo made their way to a restaurant in the city. After taking their seats, Maria made eye contact with Milo, which caused her to avert her eyes and blush. Milo was clueless as to what was going on in her mind but was happy to be out having fun.
Milo and Maria had a good meal and talked more, they talked a bit more about themselves and Milo was able to learn that Maria was a member of the prestigious Van Orten family, they were very well known due to their family pushing the lightning ability to new heights. Not only this, but although she was a member, she was considered an embarrassment to the family. Even with her family's support she progressed much slower than the majority of those in her family. This was mainly due to the strength of her older brother who was the vice captain of the Olympus Guild which was one of the strongest guilds in the world, and was considered one of the Big Four.
Maria was also surprised to hear about Milo's past. She had no idea what kind of life he had lived and after hearing what he went through, she felt guilty for how easy a life she had been born into. Even if she didn't get along with her parents, she at least had them there to fight with. Not only this, but it increased her admiration for Milo to new heights, he had reached this level of strength on his own without any special training or nourishment.
After their meal, Maria asked if he'd like to go see a movie to which he agreed. They had already done a lot together but what was a few more hours of fun. The movie was an interesting one which followed the life of one of the original gatecrashers who was sent to reclaim the island of the Philippines that was taken over following the fall of Manila. It was full of action as well as a bit of romance between the main character and one of the women who was in his squad. After the movie ended, the sun was setting and Milo and Maria made their way to campus and continued to talk about themselves.
Milo was happy that he got to know Maria better as before they got together, he was still unsure about what to think of her following them being on the same squad for their classes in field experience. She was much stronger than he thought and not just due to the strength of her ability but as a person as well for the discrimination she went through at home. Not only did he think she was a strong person, but he also wouldn't deny her beauty as well. There was a reason she was so sought after by the other guys in his class.

Maria and Milo walked back to the dorm where they made their way to the roof to watch the sun finish setting. Standing at the balcony, Milo was amazed at the sight before him. Years before he never thought that he'd be standing atop a building in the acropolis, nor did he think he'd be strong enough to be a member of the X ranked class.
After the sun was finally set, Milo walked Maria back to her room.
"Thank you for today, it was a lot of fun," she said.
"Of course, it was nice getting to know you more and I had a lot of fun as well," Milo responded.
Maria then leaned in and gave Milo a sudden kiss on the cheek, "You're a sweet guy Milo," she said, "consider that as a thank you for saving my life in the gate."
Maria was blushing hard after kissing Milo on the cheek and rushed into her room. Milo was left standing there speechless with a face as red as a tomato. He had no idea what to think as he made his way back up to his room, she was so uptight when meeting him this morning, but now she was acting like a school girl with a crush. He would have to ask the others their opinion on the matter.
