Chapter 68 67 - The Rift
After the rift enclosed the area around them, the group sprung into action, they ran through the streets looking to find an area where they could take cover. While the group had been training for a situation like this, the only two that had actual combat experience against beasts were Milo and Zach, and unlike that time they didn't have weapons now.
While running they heard the sound of sirens and a voice announcing the arrival of the rift. The voice informed civilians to hide inside and that gatecrashers were on their way.
After running through the streets, they found a building where a group of civilians was hiding. After a few minutes, they heard a sound outside, before one of the windows burst inward. Outside the window was a beast that looked similar to a salamander, it was purple in color with bright green bulges running down its back. After breaking the glass, Milo ran out of the building to draw its attention away from the people inside. He had already closed a gate, this would be nothing.
After running out into the street, the salamander beast turned towards him before opening its mouth, Milo noticed the stench right away, and just as he went to cover his nose, a yellow green blob was shot out of the salamander's mouth towards him. After jumping out of the way, the blob hit the spot on the pavement where Milo was standing before and as it made contact a hissing noise was made and steam rose as the blob melted through the asphalt. Milo then activated his inspect skill to see exactly what he would be going up against.
[Uncommon Tier Beast]
Species: Acid Spitting Giant Salamander
Status: Healthy
Disposition: Aggressive
An uncommon tier beast that is able to spit acid up to 5 meters. The acid sacks on its back will shoot acid out when they are popped. If feeling threatened the salamander can burst them manually.

After reading the description Milo knew he needed to end the fight quickly. Milo summoned three ice spears behind him and began to make them rotate, he hadn't practiced a lot following the increase to his magic power, and after thrusting them forward, he was caught off guard by the speed and power. The salamander didn't have time to react as the spears pierced its head killing it instantly.
After seeing Milo kill the beast so easily, the civilians hiding in the building cheered. This unfortunately brought the attention of more beasts, Chris and Mark then stepped out into the street with Milo, while Zach helped the people hiding inside to put up a barricade just in case. Zach felt bad that he couldn't be of more help to his friends, but he hadn't hatched the egg yet and didn't have his weapon either.
After seeing Milo slay the salamander so easily, Chris was getting fired up. Four more beasts were seen coming their way and Milo looked at his new helpers and asked if they were ready for a fight. After using the inspect skill, Milo noted the tiger of the incoming beasts as all common tier, allowing him not to worry as much for his two friends' safety.
Chris knocked his fists together kicking up little flames as he did, "Ready as I'll ever be, let's kill some beasts."
Mark didn't say anything and instead reached out, touching a metal pole nearby turning his arms into metal.
"I'll take the two in the middle, you each take one on the sides," Milo said as he charged in.
Milo used his ability to create a sword and shield out of ice. Once he was close enough, he slashed at the first beast, before creating a path of ice freezing the other beast's feet to keep it from helping its teammate. Milo continued to hack and slash while blocking and dodging attacks from the beast that wasn't stuck until eventually it fell over dead.
While this was going on, Chris threw fireballs at his opponent, causing it to shriek in pain every time it got hit. After getting close it tried to strike at him, but Chris was too fast, dodging its attack and shooting out fire from his palm. Because they didn't bring their gear with them, Chris didn't have his weapon and had to depend on his flames to either defeat the beast or keep it at bay until he could get help.
Mark on the other hand was using his ability to turn himself into a deadly weapon. The beast he was fighting was unable to damage him due to his body now being made of steel and it made it easy for him to kill. He continuously punched at the beast on the head, giving out a loud ringing sound when he did. Eventually, it fell over from the hard blows Mark was making with his steel fists.
After defeating his beast, he went over to assist Chris in finishing off his opponent, soon the group of beasts had been defeated, and by some miracle, the only injuries the three friends had was a few scrapes and bruises, all aside from Mark who was a walking steel beam. While the group was resting, Milo went out and used the system to loot the corpses of the beasts they had defeated before going back and taking cover in the now barricaded building where the civilians were all hiding.
About 15 minutes passed of eerie silence, when the group suddenly felt the ground begin to shake. This caused some of the civilians to whimper in fear, Milo knew he would do whatever he could to protect them if it was a beast.
Peeking out into the street, Milo froze when seeing the beast that was walking down the street towards where they were. The beast he was looking at was one he had seen on the news plenty of times.
Beasts were normally categorized into two different categories, regular which tended to take on the forms of animals or mythic beasts one would normally see in stories, and anthropomorphic which had a humanoid figure and oftentimes had good intelligence making them much trickier to fight.
The beast Milo was looking at was of the latter. When standing its head was at the level of second story windows, there was a horn poking out of the top of its head and a single brown eye could be seen on its deformed face. It had green skin and in its hands a club the size of a tree trunk could be seen. It was mostly naked with only a piece of cloth covering its crotch, not leaving much to the imagination.
When activating inspect, he got a screen and his fears came true.
