Chapter 56.1 – Because Your Highness Asked (1)

“Just who are you?”

“Just what are you hiding from me?”

Those two questions from Qi Yang drove Lu Qipei into a corner. Lu Qipei had never seen the little princess being this imposing before. She couldn’t help temporarily falling into panic, until she saw that the uneasiness hidden in Qi Yang’s eyes were no less than her own.

Actually, her forceful questions were originally just a test, but the outcome made Qi Yang feel uneasy.

Lu Qipei lowered her gaze and fell into deep thought, but Qi Yang didn’t give her much time to think. Her white hand lifted her chin, but it wasn’t the way she used to do it. This time, it was oppressive, and a storm seemed to be brewing behind her dark eyes.

She couldn’t make her sad. She was already feeling guilty towards her from what happened in the previous life…

Lu Qipei had always felt that she owed Qi Yang. As her gaze met Qi Yang’s, she closed her eyes slightly and said the thing that Qi Yang had somewhat expected but never dared to think about deeply. “Your Highness, you and I might have been born to be the antithesis of each other.”

Qi Yang’s hand suddenly tightened, squeezing Lu Qipei’s chin until it slightly hurt.

Lu Qipei’s words might have seemed vague, but Qi Yang was smart. Adding together everything that had happened in this life and the previous life, a bold guess that had started taking shape from before finally appeared in her heart. She frowned slightly, looking at the person in front of her. “That Xie Yuan, what is his relationship with you?”

After what she said before, Lu Qipei seemed to have let go of all her concerns. She was naturally calm, and she didn’t want to hide too much from the person she cared about. She answered immediately, “I also don’t know, but we must be somewhat related.”

She paused slightly, then continued, “Aside from how I look similar to Xie Hongyi, my butler also had contact with him in private. Even the escape of the Rong envoys this time is related to the Lu family.”

In just a few words, she had sold out all the secrets of the Lu family. Lu Qipei looked at Qi Yang, and there was no fog or fear in her pure eyes. It was as if she had forgotten the position Qi Yang was born with, and was just telling a secret to her lover.

The corners of Qi Yang’s tightly pursed lips trembled slightly. She couldn’t imagine what they could do if others knew about this.

After a long time, Qi Yang asked, “Why are you telling me this?”

Lu Qipei smiled calmly and looked at Qi Yang with a gaze filled with tenderness and guilt, “Because Your Highness asked.”

Qi Yang’s heart felt both sour and sweet when she heard this answer, but her words were still sharp and strong, “Aren’t you afraid that I will bring this matter to the Emperor and have you and everyone in the Lu family executed?”

Lu Qipei seemed to have seen through her bluff and stared at her for a long time, and she finally said in a low voice, “If Your Highness wants my life, then please take it. I owe this to you.”

Qi Yang was a little confused when she heard this – after thinking about it, she didn’t think that Lu Qipei owed her anything. Based on her experience, Qi Yang could sense from some of her words that she had also just learned about it recently, so she wasn’t deceiving her intentionally. And from the start, it was her who went after Lu Qipei and got the two of them entangled in this relationship, so it wasn’t the latter’s fault that they ended up like this today.

Qi Yang had doubts in the situation and asked directly, “You haven’t done anything, so why would you owe me?”

But unexpectedly, Lu Qipei would not answer such an ordinary question. She lowered her gaze slightly to avoid Qi Yang’s eyes and said, “I can’t say it.” After saying that, she seemed to be afraid that Qi Yang would be upset, so she added, “Don’t worry, Your Highness. I will not let you down in this life.”

Of course, not letting her down not only meant living up to Qi Yang’s affection for her, but also that she would not cause any unfavorable things to happen to Qi Yang because of their position.

Naturally, Qi Yang understood Lu Qipei’s heart the moment she confessed such a secret to her. If they hadn’t trusted them with their whole heart, who would’ve dared to reveal such a secret to someone else?

The pit of her heart suddenly turned soft, and all her previous anxiety and insecurity all disappeared because of the person in front of her. Qi Yang let out a sigh of relief, and no longer dwelled on that question that Lu Qipei had explicitly said she wouldn’t answer. Instead, she said, “What else do you know about the Lu family and Xie Yuan?”

Other than the previous question, Lu Qipei answered all other question as expected. She went out of the corner, passed by QI Yang, and finally took a book from a case and passed it to her. Qi Yang looked at the cover and saw that it was < Chronicles of the Founding Emperor>. She turned to look at Lu Qipei in confusion, but Lu Qipei only said, “Your Highness should open the page to before and after the country was stabilized and take a look around.”

Qi Yang opened the book as she was told, and didn’t have to bother finding the page because there were very obvious creases on it. She looked at Lu Qipei, then at the book in her hand, then finally read it in silence.

Not long after, after finishing the thin pages of the book, Qi Yang’s eyes flashed with surprise.

Seeing that she seemed to have guessed something, Lu Qipei also looked at the book in her hand and said, “I didn’t know anything about my family, but I accidentally found this book on the desk in my room. It might have been a reminder, or a warning.”

Qi Yang frowned and looked at her, and her face look unprecedentedly solemn. After thinking about it, she only asked, “Is there any evidence?”

Lu Qipei shook her head, her face showing that she also had no luck in this matter. “No, it’s all speculation.” After saying that, she smiled wryly, “I’ve also just found out about this recently. If I had known about it earlier… I wouldn’t have gotten Your Highness involved.”

Speaking of this, her eyes were filled with loneliness.
