Chapter 74.2 – Too Skinny

After waiting with the crowd for around half an hour, a group of people appeared at the end of the official road in the distance, slowly approaching the capital.

It was an organized group of soldiers that looked mighty in red and black armor. They had a bloody aura surrounding them, no longer just looking impressive on the surface like when they first left the capital. As the group that had no more than a thousand people approached, the surrounding area became solemn.

The group that came to welcome the Crown Prince felt silent, and everyone showed a cautious attitude.

After a while, the Crown Prince’s carriage finally approached under the soldiers’ protection. The door opened, and the Crown Prince in an apricot robe could be seen standing proudly inside. He face seemed pale, and he was much thinner and his robe felt as if they had some empty space.

However, it didn’t diminish his aura. On the contrary, he looked more like those soldiers behind him, giving him additional majesty and solemness.

Many people just looked at the Crown Prince and hung their heads down, their hearts still beating. The leading official from the Ministry of Rites took two steps forward and said, “Your Highness is mighty, and your victory has displayed our country’s prestige. His Majesty is very happy, and have especially ordered us to come and greet you.”

The Crown Prince looked calm, and the solemness on his body gradually receded. He seemed to have returned into the gentle and benevolent Crown Prince of the past. “This is just my duty. It’s a cold day today, I’m sorry for making milords wait here for a long time.”

All the officials breathed a sigh of relief when they saw this, but they all quickly said that it was just what they should do.

The Crown Prince said a few more words and was about to return to the carriage when his gaze swept through the crowd, and his eyes stopped a moment on Lu Qipei. Then, he caught a glimpse of the carriage parked not far away, and his expression suddenly turned much softer.

At this moment, Qi Yang also exited the carriage. She walked slowly and called out from a distance, “Royal Brother.”

The Crown Prince’s eyebrows widened, and the remaining chill and coldness disappeared completely. “Why is Royal Sister here in such a weather?” After saying that, he looked at Lu Qipei and said with a smile, “Could you have come to accompany your prince consort?”

The siblings were finally reunited after a long separation. Qi Yang was still feeling a little emotional at first, but the Crown Prince unexpectedly threw a joke as soon as he opened his mouth. The words that she wanted to say were immediately stuck in her throat and wouldn’t come out anymore.

She was a little bit upset and a little bit amused, but the Crown Prince’s words undoubtedly made any awkwardness between them disappear completely. “Yes yes yes, I’m here to accompany my prince consort. I’m afraid that she’ll be frozen after waiting too long.”

The Crown Prince was the one who started joking, and he didn’t mind her joking back. He said, “Since it’s cold, let’s go back and have a chat.”

All the officials came to welcome the Crown Prince back to the palace, and they would not stay outside the city. Qi Yang took the opportunity to board the Crown Prince’s carriage, and he didn’t chase her away, so the siblings could have a chat on the way.

The Crown Prince was sitting inside the carriage, still joking, “What is this, are you willing to leave your prince consort now?”

Qi Yang snorted, “I can’t, I really miss her.” Then she continued, “But I haven’t seen Royal Brother for a long time, and you were in such a dangerous place like the battlefield. If I don’t see that you’re fine with my own eyes, I won’t feel at ease.”

She spoke very frankly, and the Crown Prince’s eyes softened when he heard this, “Don’t worry, Royal Sister. I’m fine.”

Qi Yang’s eyes subconsciously glanced at his leg. Since the Crown Prince got off and on the carriage just fine before, he was probably not hurt like in his previous life. This made her sigh in relief, and she said as she drew back her gaze, “When Huai town was lost before, I heard that Royal Brother was injured. I wonder if you’ve recovered now?”

The injury was healed two months ago, and the flesh wound were no longer a problem. But the Crown Prince’s luck really was pretty bad. Although he didn’t get shot through the knee this time, he was slashed on his right shoulder. The treatment was delayed for too long and there weren’t any good doctors.

Now it left some sequalae and his right hand couldn’t exert as much strength. And in the current cold weather, even his bones would ache, making it even more unbearable.

But the Crown Prince didn’t want to say anything more to Qi Yang, so he just raised his hand and pointed at his shoulders saying, “It’s fine, it’s cured now.”

Qi Yang’s eyes fell on the Crown Prince’s shoulder. Seeing his calm and relaxed look, she also believed him. “That’s good then.” After saying that, she stared at the Crown Prince again, frowning, “But on this trip, Royal Brother has lost a lot of weight. You have to take care of yourself after returning to the palace.”

The Crown Prince didn’t feel impatient hearing her nagging, just feeling like it was a warm current that flowed to his heart.

They didn’t talk about any major military affairs on the trip; the Crown Prince only talked about life at the border, occasionally mentioning some interesting things. Then, he asked Qi Yang how she had been in the capital these days, and if she got along with her prince consort after the marriage.

The topic was relaxed, so when they arrived at the palace, the Crown Prince and Qi Yang still felt like they wanted to talk more.

When the Crown Prince returned to the court, the officials crowded around him, but before he stepped into Xuanshi Hall, he gave a special comment to Lu Qipei. He patted her on the shoulder and told her, “I’m entrusting Royal Sister to you. I hope Prince Consort will cherish and love her.”

After two months, Lu Qipei still did not manage to escape getting chewed by Qi Yang’s eldest brother after all. She felt a little helpless, but she also replied seriously, “It is a matter of course.”

The Crown Prince knew that the couple were very closed, so this sentence was enough. Just before leaving, he squeezed Lu Qipei’s shoulder and whispered, “It’s just that you’re too skinny. Young people should grow bigger.”

Only with wide shoulders would she be able to shoulder her responsibilities and the future – the Crown Prince didn’t finish the rest of the sentence.

However, the Crown Prince’s words and actions made Lu Qipei’s heart beat a little. She raised her hand to cover the shoulder that the Crown Prince patted, and looked at his back as he walked away, feeling a little lost.

When Qi Yang asked, she shook her head and said, “It’s nothing.”

Author notes:

The timeline is moving too slowly, that’s why you fell that the newly-reborn couple cannot do anything. They’re weak, pitiful and helpless. Then I counted with my fingers that the little princess is just sixteen, and the prince consort is just seventeen – still too young. So let’s happily do a timeskip in the next chapter, going straight to three years later!!!

Caught a cold that might or might not be covid. I swear it’s hard to tell nowadays. Updates might be affected for (hopefully just) a few days.
