Chapter 98.2 – You Have To Trust Me

By the time she sat on the carriage leaving the palace, the clothes on her back were almost soaked from cold sweat. The wind blew outside the carriage’s window, making her shiver although it was summer.

When she saw this, Lu Qipei reached out and took her into his arms, then used her sleeves to wipe the cold sweat on her forehead. She comforted her gently and said, “Okay, okay. Ah Ning, don’t be afraid. Aren’t I just fine? Don’t worry.”

Qi Yang was nestled in Lu Qipei’s arms, but one hand was tugging desperately at Lu Qipei’s lapel, so hard that her knuckles turned a little white. She wanted to say something, but she was afraid that someone outside might hear her.

Finally, she could only keep her voice down and ask, “How could this be? How did Royal Brother find out about this? He even found out Xie Yuan’s identity, what about you, Ah Pei? What should we do?”

Right now, Qi Yang was obviously in a panic. She could no longer hold back the emotions that she had suppressed back in the Eastern Palace, now that they were confined in this space where there was just the two of them.

She grabbed Lu Qipei’s lapel tightly, her fingertips turning more tense, but her hand was still shaking slightly.

Lu Qipei calmly patted her on the back, felt the slight dampness from sweat, and sighed slightly in her heart. Without feeling disgusted, she continued caressing Qi Yang gently again and again, slowly relieving her tense emotions.

It wasn’t until Qi Yang had calmed down a little did Lu Qipei say something. “It’s okay. There’s nothing he can find out. I don’t have anything to do with Xie Yuan.” She lightly kissed Qi Yang’s forehead and said, “Ah Ning, you have to trust me.”

Qi Yang raised her head and looked at Lu Qipei. Seeing that her eyes were as clear and calm as ever, she didn’t know what to say for a while.

Their deepest, most hidden secret was finally revealed by the Crown Prince today. What lied between them was not just their identities and conspiracies, but also a deep blood feud that was forged decades ago!

Qi Yang had long known of this and thought about it. She sometimes felt panicked, but looking at Lu Qipei’s gentle and affectionate appearance would make her forget all about it.

But when this reality was revealed by others, everything that she once wanted to hide seemed to have emerged again. She didn’t know what Lu Qipei would think. Could the bloody hatred left by the Xie family members be easily eliminated?

Lu Qipei seemed able to see through Qi Yang’s thoughts, but after she said to trust her, she didn’t explain much. She only looked at Qi Yang calmly and slowly comforted her restless heart with her calm gaze.

In fact, that hatred or something was just a sentence written in history books for Lu Qipei. The whole so-called Xie family was slaughtered, but she had never met a single member of the Xie family, nor had she received any kindness from them.

So how many waves can such a shallow word of hatred stir up in her heart? What’s more, Lu Qipei was magnanimous by nature, and not a person full of hatred.

Qi Yang and Lu Qipei looked at each other for a long time, and she finally realized that her Ah Pei was still her Ah Pei. The Crown Prince’s words today did not cause her to have any different emotions.

Slowly, Qi Yang reached out her hand and touched Lu Qipei’s cheek, who smiled and rubbed against her palm.

At this moment, her heart seemed to return from the void back to reality, and Qi Yang’s eyes gradually relaxed. She leaned slightly into Lu Qipei’s arms and listened to her steady and gentle heartbeat, calming herself down.

Regarding the hatred, the two of them had a tacit understanding and didn’t mention it much. Qi Yang finally turned the topic back to Xie Yuan and said, “Royal Brother has already found out about Xie Yuan, and those forces in your hands were originally his. If Royal Brother finds out…”

Before Qi Yang finished speaking, Lu Qipei interrupted her words and said, “No. Those forces in Qi Bo’s hands were not Xie Yuan’s.”

Qi Yang was stunned when she heard this. She never asked about the forces in Lu Qipei’s hands, so she never knew what was involved. After finding out about Xie Yuan’s existence, she naturally took for granted that Qi Bo was one of Xie Yuan’s men. Now it seemed that there was still another story behind it?

Of course there was.

Lu Qipei and Lu Qicheng took the surname Lu because they followed their mother’s surname. Going back a few decades when Xie Zhicheng was still alive, he originally came from a small noble family in the south, and later he was able to quickly unify the south thanks to the help of the noble families there.

The Lu family was one of the noble families that were deeply involved with the Xie family back then, and the Lu family’s daughter was even married to the Xie family.

Of course, with the defeat of the Xie family and their slaughter, the Lu family did not end up well either. The noble family was instantly overthrown, and in the end, only a pair of daughters escaped, along with a group of loyal servants guarding them.

Qi Bo was someone who escaped from the Lu family back then. He spent decades trying to integrate the remnant forces of the Lu family, and gradually developed and grew stronger with Xie Yuan’s help.

To say that this force had nothing to do with Xie Yuan at all would be ignoring his support and planning back then. But to say that this force belonged to Xie Yuan would be completely wrong.

It was precisely because of this complex and messy relationship that Lu Qipei dared to go after this force. The reason was simply because her surname was Lu, which naturally gave her an advantage over those surnamed Xie.

In recent years, under Lu Qipei’s control, the connection between these forces and Xie Yuan had become increasingly shallow.

Author notes:

Finally, I gave a brief explanation of Little Lu’s background… Then, the Crown Prince was very suspicious, but he has no evidence.
