CH 24

Now then, how would someone that survived a dungeon go to work?

She woke up in the morning, washed up, lamented the lack of her 100,000 won slacks that were torn up in the dungeon, and looked for a long skirt that was inconvenient.

Aren’t you going to eat breakfast? Because Hyunsook made a fuss for her to eat something before going, Hara swallowed down the fried egg as though she was drinking it. She bowed to her father, who’s going to work, before brushing her teeth.

Well, everything was about the same up till that point. However, things were different when she reached the Mapo branch office.

“Kang Hara-ssi?”

“Yes?”

Hara, who was entering the main gate of the Mapo branch office with hunched shoulders, raised her head at the sound of her name being called.

She roughly recognised the person that suddenly appeared in front of her to be Chief Jung Yoojin’s secretary. Hara blinked dazedly with an iced Americano in hand, and the next moment she was brought away like she was being abducted.

And when she came to her senses, she was seated in the chief of the Mapo branch’s office.

“You rascal, are you in your right mind or not? I’m sure I told you to come to the chief’s office as soon as you got to work.”

Chief Jung, who was watering a pot by the window of her office, clicked her tongue at the bewildered Hara. The puzzled Hara shook her head and finally answered.

“I didn’t know that you meant it like this……”

“If you didn’t know this was what I meant, are you going to go to the Mana Stone Management Department and answer every single question that others will ask?”

“I’m sorry……”

Chief Jung Yoojin was sure that the foolish mana stone management employee might not understand what she meant by ‘Come to the chief’s office as soon as you go to work.’ If she had tact, she’d come to the chief’s office through the back gate, if not, she’d waddle in through the main gate.

As such, she purposely ordered her secretary to stay by the main gate of the Mapo branch office. And just as Chief Jung thought, Hara was caught red-handed while wandering in.

“There’s a long way for you to go.”

“What?”

“Nothing. Why are you drinking iced coffee first thing in the morning?”

“Ah……”

Hara averted her gaze. She shouldn’t respond with, ‘Because I have a lot of internal anger?’

Fortunately, Chief Jung did not seem particularly interested in Hara’s answer.

“Just give me a thorough rundown of your abilities.”

At Chief Jung’s words, Hara carefully opened her mouth. Thanks to her slip of the tongue with Yoon Seheon yesterday, she was able to articulate to Chief Jung properly. About everything that happened after entering the dungeon.

When Hara’s explanation ended, the chief, who had been listening carefully and jotting notes in her notebook, tapped her chin.

“Hmm.”

If Chief Jung asked, “What, such a crazy constellation exists?” Hara wanted to answer with a solemn “Right? He’s totally crazy!”

However, Chief Jung only calmly asked.

“Then can you still use Flight?”

“Yes! He’s totally… Oh, yes.”

Hara, who was about to speak loudly, replied awkwardly.

Jung frowned, but she wasn’t the type to waste time.

“Let’s take a look at your basic skills.”

She was referring to Candlelight.

She wanted to observe its power, so Hara pulled out her lightstick from her bag.

Chief Jung made a strange expression when she saw the small plastic lightstick.

“What’s with that silly thing?”

“……Well, somehow……”

While I know that it’s rather simple, it hurts my heart when you say it like that… It was an unofficial merchandise, but this was something that the fans of Kwon Wook, who was a ruined idol at that time, did their best to save up in order to purchase… Similar words rose to the tip of her tongue.

Instead, Hara opened the lid and extended the lightbeam.

“Oh, it’s lengthening.”

“Yes.”

“How much longer?”

Hara carefully adjusted the angle as she increased the light. To refrain from breaking anything  in the chief’s office, she took into consideration the fact that it extended in a straight line. After the beam reached the wall, she explained.

“I can still increase the length.”

“What about thickness?”

“Oh, I’ve never thought of that…”

Hara answered after pondering deeply.

“I think I can do it.”

“Go ahead.”

At those words, Hara used her strength. The beam’s thickness increased a little before reverting back to normal with a whoosh.

“Is it used in the bathroom…”

Upon seeing the beam that returned to the diameter of Hara’s pinky, Chief Jung clicked her tongue. Hara smiled awkwardly.

“You should do something about that output. If your ability was simply lethality-infused light, can’t you shoot it out of your hands?”

“Well, I guess it’s because I lack imagination. Basically, there needs to be a medium.”

“You don’t use batteries, do you?”

“Yes……”

This was something that Hara placed effort into in various ways when she was younger. Can she use the skill without a lightstick? She couldn’t.

This was a common occurrence indeed. Hunters with great imagination could display their ability without a medium, but on the contrary, those that didn’t had a hard time displaying their ability without a medium.

In the first place, most Korean hunters were forced to awaken at seventeen, so it was natural. They were awakened mechanically without talent or opportunity, so it would be even stranger if they could showcase their ability freely.

“Hmm. Then you’ll have to wave around something similar first.”

The chief’s pondering gaze reached the ceiling.

“Can you use the fluorescent light over there?”

“I’ve never tried, so I wouldn’t know.”

“Well, this isn’t my specialty but a capable someone else’s, so I’ll leave it to him then.”

A capable guy? Hara blinked. Just then, the phone in the chief’s office rang.

– Chief. Kwon Wook-ssi has arrived.

Kwon Wook? Hara’s eyes became as wide as saucers.

Chief Jung answered absentmindedly.

“Oh, he’s just in time. Let him in.”

Isn’t this insane? Although Hara freaked out, the world didn’t wait for her. The door burst open.

“Hello!”

Hara was met with a familiar face.

Hair that’s dyed into a bright red. A handsome face. A tall and slender stature. One of the most famous hunters in Korea. Kwon Wook.

‘Crazy, crazy, I must be crazy!’

Hara couldn’t help but scream inwardly. It really was Kwon Wook.

In other words, Kang Hara’s former oppa.

Of course, former oppa wasn’t actually the truth. When her friends asked her if she still liked Kwon Wook, she would reply with, “No? After he became a hunter, my interest just dwindled,” but she would look up videos on Kwon Wook at home secretly.

The next moment, Hara hid her hand behind her back instantly. It’s because of the lightstick she was holding. Just in case Kwon Wook recognised her.

Regardless, Chief Jung greeted Kwon Wook indifferently.

“Oh, the delinquent is here?”

“Ah, the Chief always calls me a delinquent whenever we meet.”

“It’s a good thing I don’t call you a traitor.”

“Oh, what do you mean by traitor? Aside from me, where else would you find Chief’s Jung’s rattle? Dalang dalang. I came over immediately at your call.”

Kwon Wook held up his hands next to his face and mimicked sparkles with them.

With a snort, Chief Jung gestured towards Hara, who was still panicking at that moment, with a tilt of her jaw.

“Madman, stop your crazy antics and say hello.”

Only then did Kwon Wook notice Hara, who was sitting on the sofa, and smiled.

“Hello.”

It was a smile that Hara had been familiar with. Before she realised it, Hara jumped up and bowed her head.

“H—hello.”

“Oh my, you’re so polite. Chief, is this the one?”

“Yes, you punk.”

The one? Hara wondered what he meant, so she looked at the chief, and the chief also gave Hara a chin gesture.

“Kang Hara, I’ll temporarily make you a field worker, so go to work with Team K.”

“What?”

“Sangam-dong. Go to work in Team K’s office.”

Team K. It was a dungeon raiding team named after Kwon Wook’s surname. The government would frequently set up dungeon raiding teams for S-class hunters, and most of those teams had different surnames.

As there were very few S-class hunters, each team was famous, but Team K was the most well known and popular amongst them. That’s because Kwon Wook was originally an idol, so the government would frequently use Team K’s dungeon raids as promotional content for the Hunter Agency.

“No matter how much I mull over it, he’s the only one that can take charge over your problem. What a tragedy.”

“What did the chief just say? Did you just say that I’m the only one that you believe in?”

With a soft smile, Kwon Wook held onto Chief Jung Yoojin’s arm. Chief Jung clicked her tongue and shook off his hand.

“Although he’s a delinquent, he should be of some help to you.”

“H, h—help?”

“Yes. Your ability for example. Pass me that lightstick or something. Hey, Kwon Wook.”

Chief Jung beckoned. Kwon Wook also blinked and looked at Hara.

The next moment, Kang Hara let out a yell.

“Uwah!”

“……What are you doing? Kang Hara?”

“Oh, no.”

Hara smiled and took out the handle of the lightstick that she’d hidden behind her back.

“I’m sorry, but the lightstick snapped in the meantime……?”

Of course, it was snapped by Kang Hara’s hand, and the body of the snapped lightstick was desperately hidden between the sofa cushions in the chief’s office.

Chief Jung approached Hara, dense eyebrows raised in surprise.

“What? Why would that snap? Hey, are you hurt?”

“Uhh! No! I’m perfectly fine!”

“Isn’t that made of plastic? Are you alright?”

As the body of the lightstick was made of plastic, it was natural for Chief Jung to worry about Hara.

Hara jumped to her feet and climbed on the sofa straightaway. Although her sudden movements caused bewilderment to dye Chief Jung’s face, Hara did not give up and climbed onto the back of the sofa. But she failed to reach the ceiling.

[Activating Flight (S)]

[The constellation, ‘Cupid’ asks if you’re activating it here in surprise]

It wasn’t just the constellation. Both Chief Jung and Kwon Wook were bewildered. It was because Hara suddenly flew up to the ceiling.

It doesn’t matter right now! Right now, her social position is being threatened… No, Kang Hara couldn’t focus on anything other than the fact that Wookie–oppa might spot the unofficial merchandise.

“I’m alright, Chief! I’ll try it with a fluorescent light— Ah, it’s hot!”

Of course, just because the fluorescent light didn’t appear to have been on all this while, it didn’t mean that it wouldn’t be hot. Hara let go of the fluorescent tube without realising it. With a loud crash, the fluorescent tube fell to the floor and broke.

“Uwah!”

“Argh! Chief, are you alright?!”

Of course, the sofa table, as well as the middle of the chief’s office, became a mess.

It was fortunate that both Chief Jung and Kwon Wook avoided it as quickly, as they were famous hunters, so no one was hurt.

“Hey, what’s with this fuss!”

“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry!”

Speechless, Chief Jung rebuked Hara, and Hara apologised tearfully.

It was very difficult to maintain her social position.
