Head

“Alright, you can drop me off here,” Shen Wan said as He Huai pulled up to the curb.

He Huai grinned. “Not inviting me in for a while?”

Shen Wan calmly glanced at him. “If you don’t mind.”

“All, so you see through me. Little missy, you’re no fun at all.” He reached out to pat her head, but she deftly dodged his hand.

He Huai felt a sudden pang of disappointment.

However, he had no real desire to visit the Shen family’s home. “When you eventually move out and invite me over, I won’t hold back, young lady!”

“Sure,” Shen Wan replied with a light chuckle, silently thinking that day wouldn’t be too far off.

He Huai went to the trunk of his car. “Here, today’s spoils.”

Shen Wan took the bags from him and quickly scanned them. There were about a dozen bags of various sizes and brands, colorful and quite impressive.

After watching He Huai drive away, she turned and walked inside.

“Wow, went shopping, huh? Looks like you made quite a haul.” Shen Yan was sitting on the sofa, her voice dripping with sarcasm, her once lively and clear tone now sharp and bitter.

Shen Wan’s expression remained unchanged as if she hadn’t heard.

“It appears that spending someone else’s money doesn’t bother you in the slightest. By the looks of all those bags, it’s as if you haven’t seen anything nice in centuries, and you’re eager to stash it all for yourself, right? It makes sense, considering you’ve been accustomed to a meager life for so long. Now that you’ve aligned yourself with the Shen family’s wealth, you’re going to flaunt it as much as you can. After all, it’s not your own hard-earned cash, is it?”

Shen Wan turned and walked towards her, stopping two steps away, and looked at her with an unnaturally calm gaze. She spoke in a calm and measured tone, “You got two things wrong. One, it’s not someone else’s money; I have the Shen surname too. Two, just because I didn’t earn it doesn’t mean I don’t have the right to spend it. You’re a Lady of the Shen family, and so am I. Why should you be allowed to spend, and I shouldn’t?”

“Shen Wan, who do you think you are to compare yourself to me?”

“I am who I am, just as you are who you are.”

“You!”

“That’s enough.” The deep voice of Shen Qian came from the stairs. He stood in the middle, his calm gaze sweeping over the two of them, his anger not expressed in words.

Shen Yan pouted her small mouth as if she had seen a savior and ran to her brother. Her watery eyes seemed to be on the verge of tears, and she looked like she had suffered a great injustice. Even Shen Wan couldn’t help but be moved. “Brother! She bullied me!”

Shen Wan found it amusing, and she genuinely laughed. To keep from appearing too showy, she lowered her eyelids slightly.

Little did she realize that the simple act of bowing one’s head, like a lotus swaying in a gentle breeze, could be so captivating.

Shen Yan wished she could rush up and scratch that annoying face. “Brother, you have to help me…”

Upon hearing this, the man, however, remained noncommittal. From Shen Yan’s perspective, all she could see were his deep, cold eyes, filled with calmness and self-possession.

Shen Wan stood her ground, unmoving, listening, and allowing it all to happen. She didn’t resist, nor did she appear anxious. She seemed like a devout believer awaiting the final judgment on the eve of doomsday.

But Shen Qian knew she wasn’t so docile, and she certainly wasn’t easy to bully.

What she had said to Shen Yan earlier had its logic and reason.

When she discovered his presence, her expression remained as composed as ever, without a hint of guilt.

And then there was that day when she personally slapped Song Lin…

All of these signs indicated to him that Shen Wan was undoubtedly more complex than her surface appearance suggested. He had to exercise caution, remain vigilant, and be extremely careful around her!

Yet the fact remained that she always managed to capture his attention unintentionally, gaining his full focus and curiosity.

“Brother?” Shen Yan clung to his arm and gently shook it.

Shen Qian turned to look at her.. “Is it fitting for a young lady like you to utter such unsavory words?”
