CH 34

Chapter 34

Amidst the piercing screams, everyone instinctively turned and ran. Zhou Yiyi and Fu Jingjing were already on the stairs, so they ran upstairs, locked themselves in their rooms, and sealed all openings with whatever they could find. Finally, they huddled in the bathroom after making sure it was secure.

Zhang Liao and Zhang Wei, who were just pouring water in the kitchen, swiftly ran towards the door. As Zhou Yiyi and others ran upstairs, they reached the door and escaped.

At this moment, a completely black-furred creature slowly emerged from that door. It looked somewhat like a mouse but was the size of a calf. Its front paws and head were covered in shredded flesh, and it had a pair of red eyes staring at the living room. After sniffing the air, it climbed the stairs and made its way to the room where Zhou Yiyi and Fu Jingjing were hiding. Opening that door wouldn’t be particularly difficult for it.

Its blood-soaked front paws scratched the door, leaving deep marks. Normally, it would take only a minute or two to create a hole big enough for it to pass through. However, it seemed impatient. Perhaps it felt it was taking too long. It forcefully moved towards the wall facing the door, using its momentum to crash into it.

A loud “thud” echoed, and the door was already loosened.

Zhou Yiyi and Fu Jingjing, hiding in the bathroom, heard the close and terrifying sound of the door being hit. They were scared to tears.

Zhou Yiyi said, “It’s here, it’s coming for us! Why is it coming for us? Are there still many others outside?”

Before Fu Jingjing could respond, a series of continuous banging sounds came. They could even see the scene after the door was knocked open!

“Trouble, we’re in trouble… We’re done…”

Fu Jingjing kept muttering about being done and dying. Eventually, unable to endure waiting in the bathroom to die, she opened the door and ran out.

Zhou Yiyi was startled. She subconsciously wanted to pull her back, but as they struggled at the bathroom door, the room’s door was blown off, revealing the sight of the calf-sized monster!

Fu Jingjing, already driven to panic, pushed Zhou Yiyi towards the direction of the door. As she realized what happened, they both saw the monster behind them, biting onto a neck, blood splattering everywhere.

Fu Jingjing was shocked. She opened the French window in a panic, and ran towards it. Zhou Yiyi, still in shock, didn’t react in time…

Fu Jingjing’s push had sent her towards the door, and by the time she realized it, she had fallen to the ground. The monster was only about two meters away from her.

“Ah—!”

Fu Jingjing heard a scream and instinctively turned to look. She saw Zhou Yiyi trying to run towards her but being bitten on the neck by the monster from behind.

Startled, Fu Jingjing forgot she was already on the balcony. Unconsciously releasing her grip, she fell from the second floor. Fortunately, there were some low plants below, providing some cushioning. She didn’t suffer severe injuries, just a few cuts and bruises.

Normally, Fu Jingjing would have complained loudly about these injuries, but now she couldn’t care less. Without hesitation, she ran to the neighboring villa.

Duan Qiufeng and Qi Jinglan were also hiding in the villa. They heard the sounds of the door being knocked and Zhou Yiyi’s scream. This meant they couldn’t stay hidden any longer; they had to escape!

Qin Jiulin and others noticed the commotion next door, understanding that they were under attack. With two beastmen individuals there, it shouldn’t be a big problem, right?

Liu Zhongyuan said, “It seems our neighbors are under attack. Want to go out and see what’s happening?”

Qin Jiulin replied, “Watching is fine, just be careful not to get involved in someone else’s trouble.”

Qi Yu thought of Duan Qiufeng and Qi Jinglan. He wanted to see their fate but wasn’t sure what he would do if he witnessed them facing mortal danger.

Qin Jiulin, “Let’s go, take a look outside. Moreover… even if we don’t go out, it seems that they have already climbed over the wall into our yard!”

Through the window, they indeed saw two men running around in their yard, finally coming to their door and knocking frantically.

Seeing this scene, Liu Zhongyuan and Qin Jiulin both showed impatient expressions.

“Open the door, please, quickly open the door!”

Qin Jiulin sneered, walked to the door but didn’t open it. Instead, he loudly said to the outside, “We are ordinary people too. Is it okay for you to hide in my house? Why don’t you take this opportunity to run far away?”

The Zhang brothers, who had arrived at their villa first, heard what he said and realized that the people living here, Qin Jiulin and his friends, were also ordinary people and couldn’t protect them at all!

So, without looking back, the two of them climbed over the wall and ran in the direction away from here. They seemed to be looking for another villa that no one had lived in.

However, this had nothing to do with Qin Jiulin. The entire villa area was actually very safe.

Except for the thing that had entered without paying attention to the scent they left behind.

Qin Jiulin, “Let’s go.”

Qi Yue blinked, “Why only two people? Did the others die? No, wait, weren’t there two beastmen among them? Why didn’t those two beastmen intervene to protect them?”

Qin Jiulin, “Who knows?”

Liu Zhongyuan, “Although there are two beastmen, one of them is a pigeon with a small grid-like body that can only fly in the air for reconnaissance. It is of no help in battle. The remaining one is a red fox, which in the natural world can only hunt small prey. Maybe this time they encountered something formidable… something more powerful than them?”

Qin Jiulin, “…Alright, let’s go check.”

He didn’t finish his words this time before being interrupted by the commotion outside. This time, a woman was knocking on the door, looking extremely disheveled, with messy hair and scratches.

She didn’t have the strength to climb over the wall like the two men before her, so she could only keep knocking on the iron gate. Qin Jiulin and Liu Zhongyuan ignored the person outside.

Although Qi Yue felt a little sympathy for the miserable appearance of Fu Jingjing, he remembered that she was the one who first suggested kicking him out of the villa. So, he couldn’t help but feel quite annoyed with her. Moreover, Qin Jiulin and Liu Zhongyuan didn’t respond at all, and as someone who hadn’t yet gained their approval, he thought it better not to speak.

After knocking on the big iron gate for a long time without anyone opening it, Fu Jingjing, out of fear of whatever was inside, quickly chose a direction and fled.

When she had walked a little further, she saw Wang Boming, the red fox.

With teary eyes, she walked over, “Brother Wang?”

The red fox nodded at her, then turned and walked forward. Fu Jingjing followed him, and he led her to a new villa. The villa was empty, but the Zhang brothers were there.

Before long, Lin Yuzhe also arrived with Duan Qiufeng and Qi Jinglan.

Wang Boming and Lin Yuzhe sat cross-legged in bathrobes. They looked at the people in front of them, including themselves, there were only seven people now. Two people had died in the recent attack.

It was Zheng Yi and Zhou Yiyi. The pigeon flew around the villa in circles, confirming the death of these two people. It saw the fragmented remains of their bodies but did not see the shadow of the culprit.

Lin Yuzhe didn’t dare to stay near, especially after flying around Qin Jiulin’s villa before leaving. However, he didn’t see anyone inside. The windows and everything were intact. It seemed that whatever it was, it didn’t attack them. He didn’t know what he felt inside.

After all, when they first brought people to live in the villa next to Qin Jiulin, it was entirely an idea to use them as cannon fodder. But now, they were the first to be attacked!

Lin Yuzhe and Wang Boming exchanged glances and then said, “You guys go rest first. We’ve checked this villa, and there’s nothing inside. It’s very safe.”

Although he said so, everyone had just experienced such a terrifying event, almost dying. Especially Fu Jingjing, who was still in a state of shock, was not brave enough to stay alone.

After all, Zhou Yiyi had died, and now she was alone. Previously, due to her sharp tongue, she had already offended Duan Qiufeng and Qi Jinglan, who wouldn’t give her the chance to stay together. The Zhang brothers were both men, so did she have to share a room with them?

As for Lin Yuzhe and Wang Boming, it was even more out of the question. She had tried that and it was impossible. Now it was even more out of the question. Even if she could pluck up the courage to apologize to Duan Qiufeng, she still wouldn’t dare to live with Qi Jinglan, given what happened with her brother.

Smiling seemingly fragile but ruthless when being tough, even if she agreed to live together, she still felt that living alone would be safer. At least she wouldn’t have to worry about someone stabbing her in the back.

Seems like Fu Jingjing has forgotten that she was the one who pushed Zhou Yiyi to block the mouse earlier, causing the death of her best sister, Zhou Yiyi.

Wang Boming, seeing them all staying in the living room and not daring to move around, knew they must be scared now.

Lin Yuzhé sighed, “Since that’s the case, you guys stay in separate rooms, take a good rest. You’re all tired.”

Fu Jingjing blinked, trembling as she said, “I think it’s better for everyone to rest in the living room. It’s safer that way.”
