CH 60

This was probably the first time Duan Zhen felt like he was some kind of a rare tourist attraction. He furrowed his brows in silence for a moment before speaking in a deep voice, “You’ve come for the main system.”

He guessed their intention so quickly that although Hest was not surprised, he felt extremely uninterested.

“The person Senafel has his eyes on is not worth it at all,” he said, leaning despondently against Moduna. “I thought we would have someone to play with in the future.”

Moduna reached out to touch his hair and whispered, “Senafel would be angry if he heard this.”

“The little cutie won’t be angry with me over such a thing, besides, he has sealed his memories and won’t care about this human anymore,” Hest said with a grin. “Even if I kill him now, it wouldn’t matter.”

He said this casually, without even a hint of murderous intent, but those present couldn’t help but furrow their brows.

“What do you two want? Speak up, or leave if you have nothing to say.” Duan Zhen said bluntly, not mincing his words.

Hest sighed softly. “It’s really not fun at all.”

He whispered something in Moduna’s ear, and then stood by silently, looking bored.

“I heard that you have the ability to drive away the main system,” Moduna said. “Do you need help?”

“No need,” Dan Zuo said while staring at them through his glasses, his brain working quickly, trying to find the differences between the two. But even though his brain’s processing speed was several times higher than usual, he found nothing.

Apart from personality differences, they seemed like two copies of each other, even the curvature of their raised hair was exactly the same.

“If needed, you must speak up,” Moduna said with a slight smile. “It’s a win-win situation.”

Dan Zuo looked at him silently.

“If we succeed in the end, we can fulfill one of your wishes,” Moduna added, his lips curving, his deep emerald eyes reflecting his figure. “Without any cost.”

Dan Zuo’s lips twitched and he bluntly refused, “I will drive away the system, but I won’t make deals with demons.”

Suddenly, Hest seemed to have thought of something good and grabbed Moduna’s hand excitedly. They understood each other perfectly, just a glance, and they knew what the other wanted to say.

Moduna shook his head at first, but after Hest made some gestures to him, he frowned slightly and nodded, “Alright.”

After playing dumb charades, Hest stepped forward and stared at Duan Zhen. “After careful consideration, we’ve decided to tell you a secret.”

Duan Zhen frowned, his intuition telling him that whatever this so-called secret was, it was definitely not good.

“This secret may exceed everyone’s imagination,” Hest said mysteriously. “You will definitely regret it if you don’t listen.”

Duan Zhen remained silent for a moment before asking, “What is it?”

At this point, Hest suddenly became secretive, shifting the topic to Li Xi: “I guess one of the reasons you refused Senafel’s pursuit is because as a demon king, he has killed so many people. For someone like you, who pursues peace and defends the homeland, this is an unbearable thought.”

He lowered his voice slightly, with a hint of amusement in his tone. “But what if this game doesn’t really kill anyone?”

Both Duan Zhen and Dan Zuo’s pupils shrank suddenly.

“Are you joking?” Duan Zhen asked coldly.

How could this game not kill anyone? He had seen so many people die in front of him, some were cut in half, some were eaten alive by monsters… Now he was being told that these people didn’t die, how could anyone believe that?

“Of course not,” Hest shrugged. “I have no reason to lie about this kind of thing, it’s easy to find out if it’s true or not.”

He looked at Duan Zhen. “Those who died were just sent back to your original world, they just had a nightmare… Oh, by the way, the abilities from the nightmare were brought out too.”

As he spoke, the young man shrugged and smiled mischievously. “I wonder what will happen with so many ability holders outside.”

Duan Zhen’s face suddenly turned particularly ugly.

“If you don’t believe us, you can go ask Senafel, he wouldn’t lie about this just to pursue you,” Moduna said softly. “Telling you this is to help you drive away the main system faster, not to harm you. You don’t need to be so guarded.”

Duan Zhen’s brow furrowed tightly.

He could sense malice, and the two individuals in front of him seemed to have no intention of hiding it, but at the same time, he could feel that this malice wasn’t directed towards himself.

Was it directed towards Li Xi? Thinking of Li Xi’s description of the relationship between him and the Demon Kings, Duan Zhen felt somewhat worried, although his suspicion of Hest’s words had lessened.

“I understand,” he said, “We’ll drive out the main system as soon as possible. Do you have anything else?”

“No, nothing,” Moduna smiled faintly at them, taking Hest’s hand, “Wishing you success soon.”

The two teenagers left as quietly as they came, their figures dispersing like foam in front of them.

As soon as they left, there was a knock on the door.

Opening it, Li Xi was outside.

Due to the recent visit of the two unwelcome demon kings, Duan Zhen found Li Xi’s knock even cuter. Thinking of Hest’s words just now, he couldn’t help but show a faint smile, “Why are you here?”

Li Xi didn’t answer his question. Instead, like a puppy, he sniffed around, then leaned in to smell Duan Zhen’s collar, his face suddenly turning ugly.

“Hest and Moduna were here?” his tone was like an interrogation, as if he had caught the person cheating as soon as he returned home.

Duan Zhen subconsciously explained, “They suddenly appeared in the room just now, inquiring about information regarding Dan Zuo.”

After he finished, he stepped aside, “Dan Zuo is here too. Do you want to come in?”

Li Xi’s face improved a lot, raising his chin slightly, he snorted lightly, then walked into the room.

Duan Zhen watched his fluffy head, feeling a bit itchy at his fingertips, but he resisted the urge to touch.

They walked into the room together, and Li Xi sat down opposite Dan Zuo, “From now on, I’ll protect you and make sure you’re safe. Don’t listen to Hest and Moduna. Two out of ten things they say are true, just believe the opposite of what they say.”

Duan Zhen asked, “They said this game won’t kill people. Is it true?”

Li Xi raised an eyebrow, “They told you that too?”

He thought for a moment, “Well, it’s somewhat true, but it’s not completely death-free. If the soul is destroyed, the person will really be dead.”

Duan Zhen’s expression changed slightly, remembering that Li Xi had once said in the abandoned hospital game that dying in this world meant real death.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” he opened his mouth, finding it somewhat difficult to ask.

Li Xi leaned back on the sofa, lowered his gaze, and said casually, “Tell you what?”

Duan Zhen fell silent for a moment, then suddenly walked over to him, slightly bent over and hugged him.

“W-what are you doing?” Li Xi tensed up all of a sudden.

“Sorry,” Duan Zhen said softly, “I misunderstood you before.”

He didn’t explain what he meant by that, but Li Xi understood. His eyes widened slightly, feeling the man’s body that was like a warm stove, warmth spreading into his heart.

They maintained this posture for a while, until Li Xi suddenly seemed to realize something, he jumped up abruptly, pushing Duan Zhen away, and sat on the other end of the sofa, pursing his lips and coldly humming, “What’s there to misunderstand, I’ve got so much blood on my hands, those little things don’t matter.”

As he spoke, he impatiently turned his head, “Alright, is there anything I need to do on the main system’s side? If not, I’m leaving.”

Being treated like a transparent person, Dan Zuo, who was tapping away at a small computer, raised his head, seeming to have not seen Li Xi’s blushing ears or the subtle atmosphere between the two, and said blandly, “There’s something.”

Li Xi, who was about to leave, paused.

“We can talk about it another day.” He glared at Duan Zhen irritably and disappeared directly.

Duan Zhen felt a bit innocent under his glare. He turned to Dan Zuo, “Write down what needs to be done, and I’ll tell Li Xi later.”

I wonder what Hest and Moduna are really planning… for some reason it felt like Hest wants to torment Dan Zuo lmao

akdskjskjds that last part was cute lol (tho it probably must’ve been super awkward for poor Dan Zuo…)
